@freshtosaltfishermen Best cheap reel is the Abu Garcia Silver Max. It was my first baitcaster and I still use it. Then grab a St. Croix triumph 6'6" casting rod. About 110-120 bucks.
Awesome Video. I had no idea you can select how many brakes you can use in a Bait Caster. That said, maybe I can reduce my backlash. Thank you so much for this info.
I bought a 60 dollar rig and it's driving me up the wall. Please no remarks saying I need to get the 200 dollar rig to do fine - because I'm just wanting to learn with the cheaper one. It's driving me absolutely insane - it will backlash before it even hits the water.. so it's not a matter of me not putting my thumb on the spool to stop it. Maybe I'm using too light of a lure? I'm just using a medium/small jig head with a rubber tube around it.. the guy at Runnings said Baitcasters were good..
@iSamPk..... May i ask which Runnings store did you go to? im just curious cause i work there and there is a limited number of them around minnesota and i was astounded that someone said runnings.
no matter what i think, both the centripetal adjustment and the spool adjustments are basically the same thing. But if someone could finally explain to me in a way to really convince me good, I will change my mind.
@dookiekong007 Centripetal braking is a 'dynamic' brake. The little pins inside fling outward when the reel spins. The faster the reel spins the more braking force is applied. This is important because as line is unwound from the spool, the diameter will decrease causing the spool to speed up. This phenomenon can be easily experienced by spinning in a chair while moving your arms and legs closer to your center of mass. Centripetal braking helps to prevent this speed up and resulting backlash.
@dookiekong007 I'm gonna second guess this. Ok...I know its just fishing and not physics, but now I'm curious and maybe someone down that road can confirm this. The speed up while sitting in a chair is simple conservation of energy. As mass moves closer to the orbit center it must move faster to maintain the same kinetic energy. Difference in the spool is that mass is leaving and taking the kinetic energy with it as the line is ejected. Theoretically this should not cause speedup...right?
@dookiekong007 Well sort of. They both react against the spool, but react differently. The centripetal drag creates friction against the whole side of spool causing more drag, it's a larger surface about 1" or so. Spool adjustment acts only against the little pin that goes through the spool, less area maybe 1/8" in diameter. Yes you really do have to adjust both for proper use. Just go buy one and see for yourself, then you will understand it more.

So much negativity by these posters. It's called a "Lead-In." It costs a lot of time and money to make videos. This Lead-In is on YouTube so you will follow it to the site, and pay for the full length video. There is nothing wrong with that. The man is supporting his family, and deserves to make a living just like you do. If you already know the info, just move on, and save the nasty remarks for when you backlash.
that's not it, the whole video is actually uploaded in the channel, the thing is that they chopped it up in tiny stupid pieces the the owners of the channel probably don't even watch, so they just name it whatever and you never get to watch a full video in the right order or understand anything from it
The guy in this video makes several false statements about bait-casting versus spinning reels. If he just prefers this type of reel that's fine, but he shouldn't be spreading misinformation. Spinning reels can do anything that bait-casting reels can do and even more.
I have not used that reel and see that I have to keep the manual close when using it the first month. I like using heavier lines since it is easier to pull the line free of limbs or roots than the ligher line which keeps breaking on me.
your'e teaching beginners to use a right-hand wind American style multiplier
-totally wrong! Left hand wind multipliers are far more natural (like 99% of fishermen use left-hand wind fixed-spool reels), and its time to end this total American Con that has been going on for over 50 years now, the BIGGEST CON ever in the history of reel technology
to further my point you complete idiot, can't you realise that with a right hand retrieve multiplier, you have you're weaker left arm (90% of people) doing the hard pumping in of fish, whilst your stronger, more co-ordinated right arm is doing the light job of just turning the reel handle?
@darkmossie633 I don't think its so much as a "con" as it is the simple fact that when baitcasters were first invented, those who made them liked the crank on the right side.... Ever since then, that's been considered the standard way. Also, when I first learned I tried using left hand cranks (I was used to spinning reels), and it didn't feel right with a casting set up. I have yet to figure out why it feels better with a casting reel to reel on the right side, but I honestly think it does.
damn it, i dont really like using heavy lines, im more used to using 6lbs or 4lbs lines with a spinning reel, but i really want this.. but oh well, lets just see what happens..
So the advantages are light weight, ability to use larger test line and heavier lures, better fighting leverage for fish, and better accuracy. Drawbacks are higher prices, increased possibility of snags/backlashes/wind knots, increased complexity of casting, and anything else?
@hanserclimbs much more sensitive and better control like you can slow down the lure and even stop it mid air with just your thumb and you look like a pro with one lol
so where is the casting lesson? only idiots like you dont realize there is a place and time for both spinning and casting rods and reels. I guess some people dont like casting reels because they get tips from dips like you.
It is really a taste thing. There are pros to a baitcaster that some shore fishermen like to take advantage of. But the spinner is so much easier to use.
I hated baitcasters for a long time. Stupid backlash cost me like over 500 yards of line in the 2 years i've tried to use them. sadly, still cant set the casting knob and cast far. went back to spinners.
@quellmetoo lol wow, calm down. the title is for this one might be deceptive but the 3-4 other videos (just look at the sidebar suggestions) are quite helpful.
@WEESTRAWZ I personally have used both but it all depends on what is more comfortable with you... If you are right handed I would buy a baitcaster with the handle on the left so you don't need to switch hands after each cast.
Waste of time... just found a real baitcasting video... very helpful and not a scam... look up bass edge quick tip.. baitcasting mike webb... Much better and not a scam.
What an "effing" waste of time... doesnt even show how to cast as the title says... just that you should visit another website to actually see the casting video... SCAM... stop lying and wasting my time. bitch
well I was wondering why my baitcaster was skipping when I reel it in? I looked and I seen that it skips on the guide part and it looks like it dug in and made it make lines into the guide bar that goes back and forth on. what have I done?
Listen boys i may only be 23 but i have had a rod n'reel in my hand since i can remember. You wanna get true casting and performing ability outta these take them brakes OFF release the tension let that lure fall fast when u hit the button. LEARN HOW TO PITCH. This will HIGHLY improve your casting ability becuase it will help train your thumb a whole lot, and will really help your casting ability, as far as knowing thumb pressure. One day you will be settin lures in the water with no splash.
I bought a REVO s about a year ago and had just about given up on it and switched back to my Sedona spinning. Now after watching this video I set my brakes using 4 and Its a breeze!! Great video thanks!
i use an ambassaduer 4500 w/12 lb trilene on a 5' med action berkley lightning rod. i can put a 1/2 oz spinnerbait in a coffee can from 70' more times than not.
i can also cast a curve and a slider, like a baseball, except in heavy wind. not bragging, just explaining that baitcaster doesn't have to be expensive or fancy to do the job well. the only things i can't make it do are cast light lures or skip on the surface without backlashing.
i mastered a baitcaster in 2 fishing sessions put 4 brakes on and tighten the knob by the spool so the lure doesnt fall maybe a little bit and cast just remember to thumb the line right before it hits the water its not hard at all just set the brakes and youll be fine and probably won't use your spinning real again!
some baitcasting reels are no good when casting towards the wind ..myb you lure is to heavy or to light ...use your thumb to stop the spool from spinning ..that will help you not get backlashes....or myb the line your using is to thick or myb your simply trying to cast to hard...practice in your backyard ..that way you wont get frustrated when at the lake.... hope i helped haha
try both before buying... i bought a left handed baitcast reel cos i use a left hand spinning reel, but its not the same, i should´ve bought a right handed baitcast...
if u need a good line that wont ever backlash get spiderwire stealth, i got invisibraid and its incridible! no line memory at all less than power pro and i tried to get backlash and it wouldnt worjk!
i use zebcos for bass fishin and bluegill closed face i have to say are the best for that use catt maxx bait casters for catfishin all together baitcasters are the best reals
HEY HEY HEY, everyone stop arguing and take my advice. i like to put a baitcaster and a spinner reel on the same rod. that way i get the best of both. now, it is tricky when you catch two fish at the same time with this setup, but fun nonetheless. enjoy!
I was like an open faced reel but that is all I have ever used so i am comfortable with it, but i keep hearing all this hype about bait casters and i am looking into one from quantum so i am trying to do as much research as i can to not only find a good quality reel but also one that will work for a newcomer to baitcasting and also one that will be a good fit for my semi-aggressive fishing style. any tips or ideas please feel free to send me a message

@quellmetoo lol wow, calm down. the title is for this one might be deceptive but the 3-4 other videos (just look at the sidebar suggestions) are quite helpful.

Can you swap the handle round so it is on the left instead of right on these reels?
WEESTRAWZ 2 years ago
no, you have to go buy a lefty.

Thanks!

np!
MinDofMinE 2 years ago
thats caught a righty its opposite
philly442 2 years ago
@WEESTRAWZ No you have to either buy them with a left or right handle
doublebaggin17 2 years ago
Ok cool.
Would a right handed person use the reel on the right or the left?
WEESTRAWZ 2 years ago
i do. i use my right hand to cast and left hand to reel, instead of casting with my right, then switching to my right hand to reel.
cubiche88 2 years ago
@WEESTRAWZ I personally have used both but it all depends on what is more comfortable with you... If you are right handed I would buy a baitcaster with the handle on the left so you don't need to switch hands after each cast.
doublebaggin17 2 years ago
@doublebaggin17 thanks for alll the replys.
I will hopefully now get a right-handed bait castr(reel on left).
WEESTRAWZ 2 years ago
@WEESTRAWZ the one with the handle on left is called a left hand retrieve,Im right handed and use the left hand reel :P

Waste of time... just found a real baitcasting video... very helpful and not a scam... look up bass edge quick tip.. baitcasting mike webb... Much better and not a scam.
billskinzfifth 2 years ago
What an "effing" waste of time... doesnt even show how to cast as the title says... just that you should visit another website to actually see the casting video... SCAM... stop lying and wasting my time. bitch
billskinzfifth 2 years ago
well I was wondering why my baitcaster was skipping when I reel it in? I looked and I seen that it skips on the guide part and it looks like it dug in and made it make lines into the guide bar that goes back and forth on. what have I done?
Deaven27 2 years ago
Listen boys i may only be 23 but i have had a rod n'reel in my hand since i can remember. You wanna get true casting and performing ability outta these take them brakes OFF release the tension let that lure fall fast when u hit the button. LEARN HOW TO PITCH. This will HIGHLY improve your casting ability becuase it will help train your thumb a whole lot, and will really help your casting ability, as far as knowing thumb pressure. One day you will be settin lures in the water with no splash.

im currently using the new ryoga from daiwa for my bait caster and shimano cardiff 100a... it was so so so cool.. try it!
amirlong 2 years ago
i use an ambassaduer 4500 w/12 lb trilene on a 5' med action berkley lightning rod. i can put a 1/2 oz spinnerbait in a coffee can from 70' more times than not.
i can also cast a curve and a slider, like a baseball, except in heavy wind. not bragging, just explaining that baitcaster doesn't have to be expensive or fancy to do the job well. the only things i can't make it do are cast light lures or skip on the surface without backlashing.
cheezyridr 2 years ago
i mastered a baitcaster in 2 fishing sessions put 4 brakes on and tighten the knob by the spool so the lure doesnt fall maybe a little bit and cast just remember to thumb the line right before it hits the water its not hard at all just set the brakes and youll be fine and probably won't use your spinning real again!

agreed

some baitcasting reels are no good when casting towards the wind ..myb you lure is to heavy or to light ...use your thumb to stop the spool from spinning ..that will help you not get backlashes....or myb the line your using is to thick or myb your simply trying to cast to hard...practice in your backyard ..that way you wont get frustrated when at the lake.... hope i helped haha

bait casters rule i love how they can hold heavy line. today i caught a 5 pound 20 inch carp up close on 14 pound berkely trilene xl

DDKFILMS 2 years ago
