Robert Webb takes the piss out of her manner of speaking from the start, you can see the look on his face when she starts talking like that because he knows she doesn't normally speak in such a hushed manner. He is all like, 'Wtf, why is she speaking like that' and instantly copies her when he says "hello".

are you all on this page british? i'm american and i've been watching mitchell and webb look on netflix. it is far and away the smartest sketch show i have ever seen. i mean like these sketches on paper are COMPLETELY brilliant. other shows are a little more surreal or quirky objectively but you could just read the script to any of these guys sketches and it would be almost as perfectly "smashing"
