  • Great music, great video, fantastic pictures.

Gordon Griffin was and always will be one of the best.

    Thanks for sharing these treasures.

  • Enjoyed this immensely. Great tribute. A deserved one.

  • Harry James mentioned that when he listened to the old stuff he couldn't tell who was playing because he, Ziggy and Chris were all so powerful.

  • I met Chris who was playing at a hotel in the Pocanos in the early 1980's. He was a very nice guy to talk with. I believe he knew my grandfather, Milton Schlesinger, the percussionist with the Ed Sullivan Show. I don't suppose he is still alive, correct?

  • My dad, (Chris) passed away on Father's Day, 2005. He was 89 years old and music fulfilled his life. I remember your grandfather very well. He was a true gentleman. When I came of age, I also played trumpet with the Ed Sullivan Show Band.

  • I'm sorry to hear that your father passed. That's great that you were also on the Ed Sullivan show. Do you know of any youtube clips showing either you or your father? If so, I'd be interested.

  • Yes, there are some Ed Sullivan shows where my dad and I were on camera together. Tom Jones "It's Not Unusual" on April 21, 1968 and Tom Jones - Delilah live

  • A long overdue tribute to one of the giants of big band trumpet. Its not surprising Chris Griffins name is overshadowed in this, the greatest of Swing band trumpet sections when Ziggy and Harry are sat alongside him.All the same,he sounds the equal of the other two at this time.A quite staggering talent and one who's name should be kept alive.I was told that his son, also a fine trupet player, lived and worked in England for a time.

  • Thank you for your kind comments about my father, and for recalling that I had lived in the UK during the '70's. We lived in Euxton, near Chorley, Lancs. I had the privilege of performing with many of the greatest British performers: Matt Monro, Tony Christie, etc. What great memories!

  • Chris played the solo on Blue Room on the Carnegie Cpncert. Isn't that correct?

  • Yes, that was his solo. He played most of the lead parts which was something that I hadn't known until Harry James told me.
