Religion does do a lot of good, and it also does a lot of bad. But I refuse to believe without it that good people wouldn't do good things, that they would just drop everything as soon as they lost their religion or their god. Good people will always do good things, bad people will always do bad things. The only difference is that, as Hitchens puts it often, religion is the only instance where you will have good people doing bad things.

And yes due to religion bad people can also be led to do good things, we're incredibly influenced creatures in that way unfortunately. However I was simply referring to how I believe that all of these things would happen naturally regardless. Making religion an utterly pointless waste of time.
