He knew that if captured he would be killed anyways, and so instead of fighting it out bravely which would've been respectable and true to what he's preached all these years, he used his own wife to shield himself from harm. She was the woman killed.
So read the report next time and don't just fall back on convenient stereotypes in reaching your conclusion.

However, his banishment from Saudi Arabia wasn't something that he gave up for his cause, it was a result of him following his cause: this is different as it allows the possibility of him remaining in Saudi Arabia, regardless of whether or not he saw it as a possibility stemming from his choices.
He retained his wealth and used it to fund Al-Qaeda.

Yes, the United States and its military has definitely committed transgressions during war, some of them quite inexcusable, but at least we try to minimize civilian casualties. On the other hand, Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda did not distinguish the two and targeted civilians frequently, this is what makes what they do so reprehensible.
