  • Two of my all-time favorite actors appear in this clip but don't have lines: Richard Farnsworth and Darren McGavin. I miss you guys in movies!

  • I love this scene. Hobbs is awesome knocking the cover off the ball.

  • That's no ball, we want a real ball.

  • thats no ball, we want a real ball!

  • Still gives me the chills after all these years.

  • alright hobbs knock the cover off the ball------- he actually did....

  • "Welcome to the majors Mr. Hobbs." Great line.

  • That junk is the ball -I love that.

  • Best baseball movie ever; hands down.

  • @blues917 Thumbs up to that.

  • Pop asked him to knock the cover off the ball, and Hobbs did just that!

  • that's no ball, we want a real ball!

  • Mouth pre maddona lol

  • No steroids needed.

  • I don't think Pops literally meant for Roy to knock the cover off the ball. He did say it, but i don't think he meant it

  • @KWCline91 It was Roys father (portrayed by the lightning) who heard the command to knock the cover off the ball and made it happen from heaven. But if you look at the ball in the pitcher's hand just before he pitches, there is a flaw in the lacing.

  • Baseball Gods.....

  • Allright Hobbs, Knock the cover off the ball.........

  • Allright Hobbs, Knock the cover off the ball.........

  • Hey bump why didn't you slid into third you could been safe? I had a cigar in my back pocket. I didn't want it break.

  • not all that junk, the ball!

  • Not even the cheats of today with the steroid use can knock the cover off the ball.

  • Now THAT's a player who knows how to take orders. Pop told him to knock the cover off the ball, and Hobbs did what he was told!

  • We need more managers like this to keep these primadonas in check! 'I'm the manager. You're the player. You sit down and shut up!" I can't tell you how many player I wish would be told this by a manager

  • Best part of the movie. I get goosebumps everytime when he crushes it, the music, the storm, the Ted Williams swing, and the bonus is it was a triple. Perfection.

  • want atmosphere in a sports film ??? this has it in spades.... great stuff !!!!

  • My favorite part in my favorite movie of all time! They really should re-release this movie so the younger generation can see this.....although...not too sure if today's generation of youth would have the patience to see this film.

Anyway...a great American story of success/failure/redemption/greed!

  • bob does always at his best

  • Good stuff!

  • "..well welcome to the majors Mr. Hobbs..."

  • wanted you to know that we used this video in a post yesterday . in case you want to see it, just go to businessclassincdotcom thank you!

  • This gets me so ready for Opening Day

  • ... well welcome to the majors Mr. Hobbs

  • Randy Newman's score makes this scene.

  • @jazz4

Yeah, it's the Captain America theme, alright.

  • @jazz4

Absolutely right. Randy Newman's powerful score is note perfect for this terrific scene.

  • @jazz4 Actually what makes this scene is Hobbs knocking the cover off the ball; you piece of shit.

  • @TheStroomis I made that comment a year ago and you call me a piece of shit because I think Randy Newman's music is highly effective in this scene. What a nice guy you are, you must be really unhappy.

  • @jazz4 Calling someone "a piece of shit" is the behavior of a juvenile imbecile. Whether they are unhappy or not is another issue. As is whether they are miserable, bitter and have zero self-esteem.

  • Comment removed

  • @jazz4 Totally! I've said the same thing about a lot of scenes in American Beauty w/ Thomas Newman's (I really he's different than Randy) score.

  • I know baseball is done for 2009. But after watching scene I can't wait for Spring Training to start again. Only four months to go for pitchers and catchers to report in!

  • The most inspiring movie I have ever seen. Every since I saw this as a little boy, I wanted to be a baseball player....

  • stirring stuff

  • man, a wave of nostalgia just hit me hard...

  • Sorry about the quality of the video people. Thanks for watching!

  • he literally knocked the shit out of the ball

  • there was no shit in that ball

  • Fantastic scene. Movies of today just cannot duplicate the magic of yesteryears.

    The soundtrack was just perfect.

  • Could be the best movie scene of all time, yet there are so many "best movie scenes" from this movie.....thank you for posting.

    Joe.

  • that's no ball, we want a real ball!

  • exactly!!

  • He doesn't leave the batters box until the ball lands in the outfield. Bench him!

  • The first time I saw this movie, I almost thought the lightning strike caused the cover to come off the ball. :)

    Great movie.

  • "why dont you just trade me and get over with!!" LOL bump is ma funny

  • I love the shit Pop says to Bump when he takes him out. Old school dog keepin the young punk in his place. We need more like him today.

  • @GreenRiver72 So funny you said that. I used to work in a factory, and my former boss (foreman) is so much like Pop it's scary.

  • I've seen this movie a hundred times, and this is the first time I noticed that the ump for his first at bat is also the ump for his last at bat.

  • no. mythbusters couldnt knock the cover off the ball, but a intense hitter can..its happened many many times in real baseball

  • Roy Hobbs is the best there ever was.

  • The scene gives me goosebumps everytime I watch it. It's one of those rare movie moments where you can acutally remember where you were when you saw this movie for the first time. An absolute TIMELESS CLASSIC!

  • Seeing Glenn Close stand up is what gives me goosebumps every time.

"I didn't want to see you fail"

  • I grew up watching this movie and have to say, its still the best ever. This movie inspired me to play 15 years of baseball, and i wish I hadn't stopped..

  • Awesome scene. Is it possible to do that to a baseball?

  • i would have to say no

  • Sure, you can hit the cover off a baseball and have it unwind like that. I have seen it happen many times when we would practice and use the same baseballs over and over again. It's very unlikely to hit the cover off a brand new baseball, because the stitches are new and tight. The stitches do wear down and will eventually break after consistent use.

  • no im pretty sure you can....

  • it absolutely is possible to do that in baseball and its happened numerous times

  • @mason1011 TAKE A LOOK AT THE BALL BEFORE THE PITCH IS THROWN AS IT SITS IN THE PITCHERS HAND - THE LACES ARE FLAWED. NO DOUBT PUT IN THIS SCENE TO ADD REALITY TO THE EVENT.

  • In over 200,000 games played since the Reds became baseball's first team in 1869, no man has busted the cover off of a ball.

  • wrong. until the 1940's games were played with one single ball, and never replaced unless one was lost. There are several incidents of covers coming off

  • Do realize the quotient found from 200,000 games and over a score of teams only takes you a decade or two after 1869.

  • QUESTION: How come Roy tells memo: "You were right Memo, we have met before"

I don't understand what he means by that, unless he is saying that she was visious like the woman that shot him before, Harriet Bird.

  • "That junk IS the ball."

  • Canisus Univ. War Memorial Stadium. Buffalo,NY

Every time i make a tee time to play golf i use the name Roy Hobbs...

  • What satdium did they shoot this scene in?

  • Please post the batting practice scene.

  • THANK YOU FOR POSTING!

  • very good video. exelent.
