If they wanna raise taxes they'll do it whether the debt exists or not! The debt battle is just an excuse for them to do so. For years, Congress members have been pushing for higher taxes. Whether they raise taxes or not, we've gotta cut spending! If we say "HEY! WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY!", then why did we not cut spending back? It doesn't take a genius to realize that if you don't have the money you don't spend! And if you put it on a credit card, it'll pile up unless you stop spending!
