I don't know if you still check this or not but I was wondering if there are any books I could read or books with recorded matches to replay and learn from any information would be most helpful.
There's a short answer and a long answer. the short is there is no difference.
The long answer is that the game is called Othello, by the rights are owned by Anjar and Megahouse, so to avoid breach of copyright the net has adopted the name reversi.
Reversi being a very similar game that was created around 1880 that Othello was based on around 1970
Hikaru no go. The anime is about a sorta similar game called go. Instead of straight lines, you are trying to make a circle around the pieces instead, and your chip can be placed anywhere on the board. At least I'm assuming that's what you're thinking of.

Great introduction. Thanks! I play poker, chess, and backgammon. Othello is the next game I want to get into.

Is the Triathlon im training for deemed a more "useful" persuit?
You'll find that the number of and diversity of people i have met via playing this game is overwhelming.
