Anytime you buy a collector car be very careful and get the car check out inside out. This corvette is worth anywhere from 5 to 10 grand not 22k. It will be worth 22k after restoration. It seem to me this Vette will need some major rust repair. I wont pay more then 5k for it because I am looking to put at least 10k in restoration.
That's one of the problems with the old corvettes. The fiberglass body won't rust so if the paint is ok the car generally looks good on the outside. If somebody doesn't know to look at the underside they wouldn't know the frame is very rusted even though the rest of the car looks pretty good. I'm guessing the owner is either trying to screw somebody or doesn't know enough to look under the car.
I think he is just mad because he really wants the car but he cant afford it. A classic case of car envy. Since he can't afford it, he will talk bad about it.
@leapingcat Are you kidding? I have sooo many cars and TEERUKS!!! This is GM at it's worst, and rusted to boot... If I was jealous or envious, I'd say it. I WOULD like a late 50's Vette, or maybe a 62, 1st year for 327
Dude I'm a C3 vette lover and I wouldn't touch this either. You'd have to be an absolute moron to buy pay 22k for this, My brother bought a 1980 for 3k and it was in better condition.
I'll stick with the 1979 Malibu I found, no rust on the frame minor rust in the basic spots *bottom of window columns and trunk corner* only surface though, has the original rally wheels on her matching the color of the car, original AM radio with 8 track player *I'm 19 and I have 8 tracks so I just think thats sweet* 305 V8, rebuilt Rishardson 4 barrel, twin Flowmasters and a 2 speed powerglide tranny sounds like a peach to me!
Nope, guys selling it scrapped the 3 speed and put the 2 speed in when he rebuild the car with his son I'm personally not convinced tho so that was something I was gonna look into myself personally, ends up he lied or something like that I'm gonna make him lower his price only reason I'm agreeing to 4100 is cuz of the powerglide he says is in her, Holley 4 barrel, long tube headers, beefier Cam with 3.10 gear would make that 305 into a nice ticket
Well you wanna buy an unrestored classes that's what you get bro. You wanna buy a vette buy a newer one like the C4 or C5 for half or even a forth of that price and have your share of fun.
Well, yeas and no. If you want an older one, check the frame. This is the rust belt, so buyer beware! I agree that the newer ones are better value... What u got?
Holy Crap! yeah, I spent 3 grand restoring all the undersides of mine, The body & interior were in great shape but I had to start from scratch from there. Depending on the engine, This one is only worth about 8 or 10 before restorations. he's a thief.
Last year, a woman pulled into a parking spot beside me and partially ripped the front bumper off her husband's stingray on one of those "stop parking, you're parked already!" concrete blocks. Oops...
She kept asking me "What do I do, what do I do? This is the first time he trusted me to drive it" I told her to buy some nylon ties to hold it on until she got home to face the music.
I say it's HIS fault for not going with someone the first time they drove his baby. Bad karma...
I have had many autobody repairmen tell me there is no such thing as a strait piece of fiberglass?? (warped)? I'm still looking for one. ***** for you!
I would love to have a classic corvette, i have a 07 one now, it so rocks, speed is fun..id give anything to have an good cool classic one tho..also love to restore old classic cars too
I think a company just started making reproduction corvette bodys(I think a '54 body mounted on a C6 frame). I haven't seen the ad in a while so I could be wrong.
Oil crisis several months in da future. I was in Florida at the time... And when did Chevy or any US manufacturer rise to the occasion? Their latest offerings are mediocre at best. Even the parts guy at the local Chev dealer said so.
Think ing economy? Think Honda or Terota.... shame... Greedy bastards, and we fell for it...
That is almost the same as my uncials car ( his is black/ red int.). He bought his after he started working for GM at 18. First car he ever bought and he still has it. Fast forward 30 years and he is now retired and has rebuilt the suspension twice. Most have that warp age in the front light area. I have seen better non stingrays for 5k on CL. My uncial used to lay the pinstripes on our year trucks back at the Flint plant.
I had a 79 and 85 Corvette-
Definitely not worth the hassle!

@Pothour101 True, but let someone else buy it, it really needs a 'new' frame!
CORVAIRWILD 5 months ago
@CORVAIRWILD If they had the undercoating there still good . But its not like a little surface rust is going to break it anytime soon .
Pothour101 5 months ago
@CORVAIRWILD But i agree thats a lot for it . But it wouldn't be hard to fabricate a few metal frame patches . You can't junk a classic ;(

That car is FAR from worth 22 grand. For that money, she'd have to be in a lot better shape underneath.
