Actually that's not true. Saying "YAH!" to someone may be an informality but it doesn't matter. She wasn't being rude, she was getting his attention. Its really hard to get someones attention, especially when surrounded by loud fangirls. I now it may be very informal but I would have done that same thing. Saying "YAH!" isn't just reserved for your dongsaeng or a chingu.
thats not rude...cuz he's american...i don't care if my sister or brothers call me unnie/noona.. it doesn't really bother me...i am so used to them calling me by my name and i sometimes don't bow to everyone i see. not that i'm rude...but american culture is different...u get used to it...i love jay :D
@liviDream he was raised in edmonds. i believe he spent mosta his time in seattle where his parents are at. he has and is publicly known to rep sea wa
@derobmai his parent's house is in edmonds. he wouldn't say he reps edmonds because no one knows where that is and nothing goes on there. i was born a good 2hrs away from seattle but i would still say i'm from seattle because that's the only place people would know from washington. dt seattle's a bit ghetto but edmonds is nothing and he lived in the nicer area
I think she was just trying to get his attention..I don't think she meant to be rude by yelling out "YAH"..it all depends on the tone of voice and the situation..in this situation she was doing all she can to get his attention and SHE DID!=) how lucky. <3
he's soo adorable. lol the girl is soo cute too, yelling out as if they're best friends. i think instead of screaming like a crazy fan girl, its better to talk to the idols...or scream their name out loudly like she did lol :) cute !
Because in korea you can only talk to a person informally if they are either family, close friends, or younger younger than you~~if you just meet a guy who is older than you, you cant starting talking informally right away (which she did)..^^
@princessrose222 I think 'Oppa' is meant for close male friends and your actual brother, so it's also kind of informal. But as a fangirl I guess you call jay like that.
@Catjuhhxx lol...i dont remember my comment anymore...:/ but yeah oppa is used for close older male friends, boyfriend and your actual brother. some fangirls offc call him that, even in korea~ i dont tho, i just call him jay park. ^^
and the informal part...i am going to ask my friend just to make sure. :)
I thought "yah" meant "hey" in Korea. That's what it always translates to on KBS World OMS when Park Myungsoo says "yah, yah, yah!" = "hey, hey, hey!"
I don't speak Korean, so I could be wrong, just following subs.
It's not rude when you call a celebrity's name in Korea, but it was rude the way she said it. Unless she was older than him, calling him "Yah" is very informal and rude, so maybe that's why the user titled it the way he/she did.
Jay is such a respectable man though; not caring about the way the fan called him like that and just smiling ♥
at as someone who does not know any korean to yell "YA" at someone you do not know is rude? Ok I say "ya" to my friends when asked a question and im to lazy to say yes. Good to know never to say "Ya" to someone if I ever go to Korea.
He coolly said "Wae?" with a smile. Whoever said that must've wanted to have his attention. *Maybe next time I'll do the same to get his attention, hehehe lol.
Actually, to yell "YA" to someone who you're not close to is considered pretty rude in Korea. It's not like a "Hey!" you can just say to anyone you like.
I always say Ya. I don't think it's rude at all. I actually don't know how to use it. I call people by that. When they don't listen. Etc. It's not rude , I think it's slang for HEY! in korean
Lol actually the fan was gonna say "Ya ho!". "Ya" is a rude way to call someone(if you don't know them) but if you put "Ho" behind it, it becomes a completely different word. It's like a Korean joke to first say "Ya!" then a second later "Ho!" to change the previous meaning of "Ya".
Anyways so the fan yelled out "Ya!", meaning to say "Ho" right after it to make it a joke, but Jay actually answered by yelling "Why?", kinda ruining the joke. lol
I wouldn't say it isn't rude because it doesn't matter if you're calling a celebrity or not. Calling out "Yah!" to someone you don't know or is older than you or higher in status than you or whatever is considered rude. Celebrities are just more used to it because people do it all the time. It's not a big deal after a while. Just like Jay, they have to just laugh it off because they know it's just the fans way of getting their attention. I've heard of worse fan stories haha.
@eyemla there's a reason why my comment doesn't have 37164 thumbs down. Did you grow up in Korea? If so you would understand their culture of treating celebrities like objects or sometimes worse to get their attention. The harsh truth is that celebrities have to learn to endure that kind of hostility in order to be successful. And jay obviously has, which explains his many dedicated fans.
Fans do that just to get the celebs' attention. lol it's not a big deal in korea cuz it can be cute in a way. she prolly had a huge smile on her face when she said it / when jay looked over. hahaha

Mmmm I don't thing this was rude D: well, maybe in korea is rude, but this is not rude for him or me D: who are from other countries is like being friendly LOL
He didnt mind at all, in USA are way much rude that this! Here in Mexico that is not being rude. I'll talk to him the same way LOL hahahaha~
@pauchansan well it's not just hey. even to close friends that are like 1-2 yrs older than you it's rude to call them Ya (hey) so yea that's just how it is in korea
@SoulSecond um.. it's still rude though. I'm korean and I might have been annoyed that someone who doesn't even know me that well and haven't even met me before in person calls me "ya"
@SoulSecond What the hell are you talking about? as a korean it's rude when someone calls you YA. My parents don't let me say Ya to my sister. I don't know how you were raised as a child but apparently for you ppl can say Ya to you anytime
If he was doing a fansigning in Houston it'd be like this.
Me(Man Voice): YO JAY PARK HOMEBOYYYYY!
Jay: Yo! Wait, who was that...?

@pauchansan well it's not just hey. even to close friends that are like 1-2 yrs older than you it's rude to call them Ya (hey) so yea that's just how it is in korea

@SoulSecond um.. it's still rude though. I'm korean and I might have been annoyed that someone who doesn't even know me that well and haven't even met me before in person calls me "ya"
tokee1234567 1 year ago
@tokee1234567 Maybe you're a korean who is hated by her own people.

@SoulSecond What the hell are you talking about? as a korean it's rude when someone calls you YA. My parents don't let me say Ya to my sister. I don't know how you were raised as a child but apparently for you ppl can say Ya to you anytime
