If one were to look at an old edition of the Official Guide of the Railways you would note that they were referred to as 'rail motor', 'motor train', 'motor car' in North America. One of the very last was 'motor train' numbers 9 and 10 on the GM&O between Bloomington, Illinois and Kansas City, Missouri. It lasted until 1962.
The best part is when he drifts through the points and then rips the governor open. Sounds fantastic.
