  • I did this lastnight at the judo club effective technique! Usually I would need to attempt 2 or 3 sidecontrol escapes including shrimping and bridging just to get half guard. Thanks for sharing buddy

  • Also I tried this technique and there was a worker with more heavy from me I improvise after the preliminary change of the transfer of the hand gives spacious time and possibilities that there were not before.

    :32? From there he can hook the arm that is pushing and drop back to armbar.

    Even if the pushing hand is too tight hook,the position will just change to north/south. Turning away almost never works in JJ.

    I don't mean anything in a bad way; but please show me where I am wrong and explain?

  • Fair question, and I agree that turning away almost never works in BJJ. Almost!

    Just like any new technique, drill it with a partner and have him work increasingly on resistance as you improve your grasp of the move, then get back with me on whether you think this is bogus or not. No, it doesn't always work, just like lots of BJJ moves, but if you can get his elbow in front of his wrist, you will get mechanical advantage and roll him. It works.

  • @vidjunkiej If you grab their wrist and press their elbow before they "base back", yes, this can work. Tougher, of course, due to the slight hold you have on that elbow, though.

  • Techniques don't work on their own. Even a highly standard mount escape can either work or not work depending on the situation. One can attempt a move and as he goes for it, the other would adjust accordingly; as he adjusts the other would readjust according to the new position. This can go on forever. Situations are constantly changing.

  • This video is just another exit next to all the many other exits that exist for the guy underneath. Sure, if this doesn't work at the given situation, don't go for it. Maybe half way through the move, you transition to another exit.

  • @kjhinn what about his grip behind your head? any time i have been in that position or had someone else in it, the elbow is really cinched in behind the neck. that seems like a hard grip to break from that position. thnx for the info.

  • I actually did this a week ago (without seeing this video, I just kind of went for it). And it does work. This is a good technique (although, if you are going against a much heavier guy, I might see the problem).

  • I have another variation of this video where instead of pressing the back of the top man's elbow with my palm, I hug around the top of his biceps near his shoulder, clamp, and roll. It has been a bit more reliable than the variation I shot in the video.

  • I can see when you get mounted, see the second 16, your instructor instead of rolling with the movement, he changes his base, so he gets the mount. Next time, you don't keep rolling when he changes his base, and the you keep with your hand on his wrist, and move your hips backward and put him in your guard or butterfly guard. Tell me if that worked for you. Good luck!

  • when you are going for it your instructor prolly noticed you are focused on that and not keeping hip from passing... so if you are turning your hips too soon he is just taking the opening and mounting. try maybe hiding the move a bit better

  • Ask your instructor, that's what he's paid for and he knows you better than anyone here.

  • this was working fine when i practiced it but i keep getting mounted whenever im doing it in a roll.

  • We tried this technique with different opponents today, but when he has strength and his side control is good, it really doesn't work. The problem is, to lift the arm. Perhaps it works against white belt level, or when he lifts his arm to try some attack, and you can then put your hand under his elbow.

  • Do you think this will work with no-gi? Maybe just get under the guys elbow?

  • Yep, but since you don't have as much to grab on, I suggest hooking around the arm and clamping rather than just grabbing his arm.

  • True - that's why there are other escapes, such as the good old elbow-knee escape, or the turn-in escape.

  • yea i have allot of trouble with bigger guys in side controle. its cause u cant get much leverage from your legs or hips in side i think.
