  • *sigh* Dear Dr. Emmett Brown,

Can I borrow your Dlorian an go back to the 1940's? Please?????????

  • Now THAT's beautiful pole dancing!

  • Favorite part of the movie( : soo cayute and classy ha

  • Phil: We like to take care of our friends.

    Betty: We're practically strangers!

Phil: Well we'd like to take care of that, too.

    Classic!!!

  • Such a fresh, natural approach to dance -- high energy but unforced.

  • @MsLinklover101 That's why I LOVE this scene! They both look like they're having a blast dancing together.

  • @TheBump465 whatever

  • I wonder how many times they fell in the water practicing that number :P

  • My favourite film along with High Society. This is my favourite song of all time.

  • They look like they are having fun

  • Great movie and great music !!!!!

  • this movie always reminds me of my grandmother. before shed died, we'd watch this every christmas. now i watch it with my babies =)

  • My dress for my winter formal looks a bit like this - its pink and princessy and dreamy (minus the high neck and sleeves). I'm going with my boyfriend, and this is his favorite movie.

    Coincidence? I think not!

  • Oh Danny! haha! It's always bad after i watch that movie i just want to have a guy around like Danny or Bing haha

  • @Spongenat you're not alone!

  • Dreamiest dress ever!

  • They just don't make music, dancers, or DRESSES like this anymore!

  • Vera-Ellen's dancing is just beautiful and heavenly...I wish I could have as much grace and rhythm as her...Just Beautiful! :)

  • Vera-Ellen's extension is just amazing!!!!!!! So jealous of her

  • Comment removed

  • Vera-Ellen looks like a 1950's Barbie doll!

    :)

  • Vera Ellen was a tremendous talent and beauty. I was born 35 years too late. I say that like I could just have walked up to her and we would be dating. Well, it's my fantasy, so it will turn out just like I want.

  • @Jacksongvl you have good taste boy!

  • @babyletme Vera was severely anorexic, but there is a video elsewhere on Youtube taken at a premiere within the same time frame as this movie. She is wearing strapless gown which exposes her neck and shoulders and there is no sunkeness at all nor is there any yellowing of the skin either. i think she wore the high necked costumes because they were warmer for her in her anorexic state.

  • what i love about this scene?

    - the lyrics

    -the melody

    -choreography

    -this dress!

    -the couple :)

    - EVERYTHING!!

  • Vera Ellen was the best dancer in hollywood but did not get the acclaim she truly deserved.

  • @2katie so true..shes unbelievable!

  • thıngs that u would not do at home--sex! ;) good stuff.

  • Her dress looks great. Love this song!

  • Vera-Ellen was such a good sport. Never the lead, always the second lead, and always darn good at it.

  • His shoes match his suit almost exactly. It's awesome. :)

  • RC: But we're practically strangers!

DV: We'd like to take care of that, too.

    I love that line :)

  • I live for this stuff, but I absolutely hate that she keeps looking into the camera. it's like "hey look what I got bitches, sure as he'll you can't do this" :/

  • i always wonder if they are dancers or singers first???

  • @livetosing4him Haha me too!

  • Everlasting Sing and dance...Is like it very much.

  • i was definitely born in the wrong era!! jazz night clubs, dancing that actually took skill, and charm....it faded so fast!

  • I love dancing like this, there's nothing like it!

  • This back when you had to act, sing, and dance to be a actor. What has happened?

  • Doesn't Vera Ellen look like the early Barbie dolls? I'll bet Mattel got their idea from watching her.

  • we're gonna press on and we're gonna have the hap hap happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap danced with Danny fuckin' Kaye!

  • Excellent Danny Kaye and Vera Ellen they don't make em like that anymore

  • @amunastra1 mores the pity!

  • This is my favorite song and video from this movie. It looks like they are floating.

  • Classy, sexy, delightful...fill in any positive adjective you like here and you have successfully described this dance, as well as this movie and the chemistry that seeps from every scene! Oh, the best things really do happen when I watch this movie!

  • What a budget they must have had. To put together such an elaborate set such as that one - that includes a pond! - for just one scene lasting under five minutes and that's it. They definitely got their moneys worth, it's incredible.

  • The violin work....lovely! ;)

  • This is the best part of the whole movie! Vera-Ellen's so good looking, you can't take your eyes off of her, which is a shame, because Danny Kaye more than holds his own next to her. The two of them together showed such a great chemestry together, and it came out in the dancing.

  • T-I-N-Y waist!! So 50's!

  • What happened to beautiful dresses like that? We re-run every era but this one with our fashion tastes..... I think it needs a come back!

  • I hadn't realized Danny Kaye was such a good dancer. And Vera-Ellen (sp?) is my favorite female dancer next to Cyd Charisse.

  • she keeps looking into the camera! it makes me crazy

  • no.. i have used amazon mp3 download lots of times with no problem..i have downloaded single tracks as well as the odd album with no prob and its very quick too...sometimes you just want one song off an album and the most i have paid is 79 pence..you can burn it to disc too..

  • The set for this dance was/is breathtaking. Someone had a great eye for light, and detail. This is such a well done part in this classic movie.

  • The nest things truly do happen while your dancing! Just not when you're dancing to Katy Perry.

  • van mij mogen ze terug zo'n films maken... want dat waren echte goei films met goei en schitterende acteurs.......

  • One of my favorite movies of all time. I can't imagine Christmas without watching "White Christmas". Danny Kaye is amazing! Vera Ellen's dancing is awesome. Yes, I know it's a movie, but how it makes me feel is so real!

  • how does someone dislike this.. seriously the songs, the costumes, the dancing whats not to like?

  • One of my all time favorite movies! And this number is awesome. They're perfect together. Talk about a talented quartet. Bing and Rosemary Clooney's phenomenal voices. Danny Kaye amazing all around talent. And Vera Allen amazing, well, amazing everything..... I think this is her best all around role. Everytime I watch it I am mesmerized by her:)

  • aaahh one of my favorite parts in the movie. I always end up humming this song for a month after watching this movie!

  • is there not a white christmas soundtrack? i love EVERY song in this movie but can't seem to find an album for the movie.

  • @Hadeydeppio ...if you go to amazon mp3 downloads..you can download the original soundtrack (white christmas)for £6.99..i use it frequently no problems

  • @tonyhgv i don't want any viruses though...is it sketchy?

  • @Hadeydeppio I have an old long play record, much played, sound not great, the new CD's don't have Vera Ellen singing:(

  • @jacsis17 i didn't think vera sang at all in the movie though. in an interview with rosemary clooney she said she did vera's voice throughout the whole movie?

  • what fabulous dancers, especially vera. if only they were still alive..*sigh*

  • @hannahbanana2005

Agreed. I've been smitten with Vera-Ellen's beauty and talent since the 60s. My biggest regret is not having sent her a fan letter prior to her passing in 1981.

  • Those two knock the socks off brad and angelina

  • danny kaye actually has a realllyy good voice.

  • Fantastic! Stars dancing is so much better than Dancing with the Stars!

  • My favorite scene from White Christmas :) I love Vera-Ellen <3 <3

  • the best part of this is the fact that his shoes perfectly match his pants

  • @NihonShorty that happens throughout the whole movie and it's so cool!

  • Love love love this movie!!!!

  • "What is this, the best two out of three?" LOL

  • I love the well-written dialogue of this and other old movies. "We like to take care of our friends." "We're practically strangers!" "Well, we'd like to take care of that, too." They don't write them like that anymore!

  • They're so elegant, and I've always loved the set.

  • First snow here today! I love this movie. Is the "I still love you Abigail" thing a reference to "The Crucible"?

  • This is one of my favorite dance scenes of all time!

  • I could watch Vera Ellen for hours. So graceful.

  • whoever disliked this and anything related to white christmas doesn't have a soul

  • @mmarissssa they think the music that is 'in' now is music,i feel sorry for them...poor little things :(

    ;

  • @kpoplovingdbsk so true!

  • I could watch this all day, one of my favorate dance routines along with Fred Astaire's Hat stand dance, cheers muchly for posting :-)

  • ahhh the good ol' days when dancing meant more than grinding and shaking your ass i miss it T.T i always wanted to learn to dance like they are so graceful :) *sighs*

  • who cares how old she is, she is amazing and rocked this whole thing...

  • how old was she when she made this film?? i'm sorry to say if i'm wrong, but she looks quite old to me :S:S

  • @vogeltjuhh It's commonly believed now she was battling anorexia pretty badly at this point. White Christmas is her next to last film before she retired from acting. She was 33 when White Christmas was filmed.

  • @wgfinley ohw oke, I didn't know

  • LOVE Danny Kaye!!!! Great quality! Watched this today! THANKS SO MUCH!!

  • This is in my opinion, the best christmas movie ever made. I wish someone would put the whole movie on youtube!!

  • I love this movie and wish movies were more like this. Great acting. but i dont know if any of my friends seen this

  • What I would do to live in a time like that...

  • What a beautiful dress!!!!!!I wish I could have been in this movie!!!!!!

  • They just don't make them like that anymore...

  • i do so wish they still made movies like this, especially christmas films. this one is definitely in my top five all time favorite movies.

  • What beauty and grace those women had! And what a gifted all-round entertainer Danny Kaye was!

  • I love the way her dress lands ever so perfectly at 0:51 MAGICAL MOMENT!!!

  • You know, Danny Kaye was a gifted dancer, but Vera-Ellen outshone him just standing next to him.

  • i agree...why can't we still have movies like this? even better why can't times still be like that where people were respectful to themselves and each other and not just trying to score as much as they can? i think i was born in the wrong era! love her dress and wish i could dance like that!

  • @mchlld42090

Well, we may have been born in another era, but we don't have to behave tas this graceless age desires....we can be good decent human beings and treat each other as God meant for us. That in itself is a victory, small as it may be, and that in the end is what life is all about.

  • ah.... its so amzing, i wish movies were like this nowadays.... :)

  • i think this is my favourite dance routine of all!

  • I just LOVE Danny Kaye.. he's so funny!! Just look at 2:28... she takes the dancing so seriously and he... well, I don't know for sure if he's doing it on purpose but he's just hilarious...!! Such a nice guy XD

  • @Greeenfairy I think you just love Danny...he seems to be dancing the routine normally to me...but remember who his character is in the movie, too...a bit of a jokester all around!

  • Aww, I love how they dance <3

Oh, I noticed that Vera-Ellen almost trips at 2:50 but Danny smiles and the dance continues. :)

  • its sad that ppl dont dance like this anymore. waltzing and such. unless their professional ballroom dancers. now its bumping and grinding. so sad... :(

  • @xinawarriorprincess they don't know what they're missing I like up close and personal, even at my age!!

  • Danny Kaye's singing voice reminds me of hot apple cider :)

He wasn't too shabby as a dancer, either. ;)

  • i absolutely LOVE her dress! they don't make dresses like that anymore--wish they did. Absolutely LOVE Danny Kaye!!!!

  • Danny and Vera Ellen were wonderful, I wish more people knew about them and how amazing they were. I am in my late 20s, and I have yet to meet anyone my age that has seen White Christmas. I am so glad my mom had this on VHS when I was little so I got to see it each year at Christmas. :) It is my favorite movie of all time. I so wanted to be Vera- Ellen. :)

  • @missingmoonlight Yeah, I'm turning 22 this year and I think I'm the only one of my friends thats seen it too. This is my favorite christmas movie, I love it so much I don't even wait for christmas to see it. I'll see it anytime of the year, It's so fantastic. And I still want to be Vera-Ellen ;D

  • spectacular!

  • Vera Ellen was the female Fred Astaire but so underrated. Cyd Charisse was her possible equal. Kaye (and Sammy Davis) occupied their own class. I've often wondered if Vera was of African- American ancestry.

  • @wannababrit How do you figure? I've never wondered that myself.

  • @JTCA4Eva It's just something in her face more than her moves. I find both exquisite.

  • I love this part of the movie. Thanks for the smile!

  • I WANT THAT DRESS!!!!!!

  • @CrazyBlonde2393 haha :) me too. one of many old movies that made me want to have a swooshy dress

  • @beefire05

haha oh man, i have always loves "swooshy" dresses. i would always be wearing dresses as a little girls and twirling and dancing in them with my clicky shoes. i still love them. too bad they make dresses so short now :(

i really want to do ballroom dancing now tho like VeraEllen haha

  • @beefire05 you'd think the so called designers out there might get the hint on what us ladies really want...you'd think!

  • i love this part so much. So beautiful and perfectly placed in a fantastic flow. makes me waana be a dancer again

  • One of my top 5 favorite movie dance sequences.

  • so sad they dont make movies like this anymore :( but that just makes it more special :)

  • They're like birds! :)

  • "What is this the best two out of three?" lol Rosemary cracks me up!

  • @Howliee ahahah i know! i love her smart alec remarks!!!

  • @Howliee She's Georges' Auntie!

  • watch the commentary by Rosemary Clooney -- it's really really good! she tells us all these behind the scene stories that only cast/crew would know! and her relationships w/ the cast and crew, lovely commentary! and rosie is just cute and hilarious as usual...occasionally sings too! <3333

  • @ApoloExpress Where can I find the commentary? Thanks!

  • oh, it's on the white christmas dvd. if you don't have it on dvd, buy it!! :D

  • Ok, thanks! The older I get, the more I love this movie!!

  • haha that's so true

  • @ApoloExpress Yeah she was pretty great. I love hearing her stories of what went on during the making of that movie

  • I still love you, Abigail.

    -John

  • Perception is, indeed, everything. So, who's really The Best? Ginger Rogers, Ann Miller, Cyd Charisse, Eleanor Powell?

My personal pick is, here she is, Vera-Ellen! Poetically-complete moves. Joy-of-dancing made manifest. The Total Package. Vera-Ellen!

THESE were The Days! Magical! Thank God for film! You'll never see the likes of this again.

    Happy New Year!

  • this movie makes me wish that people my age actually danced! i love it great plot, music and of course dance!! definately from the golden age of movies they just don't make them this good anymore!!!

  • I always thought Ms. Vera-Ellen looked Barbie!

  • @DebsAnn True! Especially in the So In Love scene! Uhh I totally forgot what movie that ones from though sorry :/

  • Classic.

never to be seen again...the golden era.

in the words of Terry Thomas.

    GOOD SHOW...

  • Love love love Vera Ellen.

She inspired me to become a tap dancer.

She was flat out the best ever and the prettiest.

my friend's mom looks identical to her. =p

  • I love this dance. It doesn't get good until he stops singing, though. And she always does weird things with her head and neck in this movie- awkward positioning. Oh well.

This dance is amazing. I love the bridge part!!

  • They probably made her do them for camera angles. They are awkward sometimes, you're right. Still....Sigh. Such poetry. :)

  • LOVE THIS SONG - and movie, esp. Vera

and Danny - wow! What talent they had.

  • I still love you, Abigail.

    -John

  • The Court Jester Can Dance and Sing!! Love ya' Danny Kaye!!!

  • One of my very favorites!!! Such grace in their dancing! Danny and Vera,,,what a team!

  • Tonight!!!!!!!!!!! 8 PM AMC ET!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I don't know what you're all talking about. Vera was a stone fox in this film

  • Hard to believe that Vera-Ellen is only 5 years older here than in "On The Town." Although she is still beautiful, and so talented, the ravages of her eating disorder make her look at least 10 years older. So sad.

  • Rosemary Clooney commented that the reason for all the high collars was because of Vera's eating disorder. A common side-effect of eating disorders is premature aging, add in all her physical work, her skin began to shrivel much too early.

  • Vera-Ellen was so beautiful and the best female dancer in movies. So sad that she had such a tragic life.

  • This is my ultimate all time favorite movie! My Daughter and I have a yearly tradition that we put this movie in while we are decorating our Christmas tree! I love around #3.33 she trips on his foot! LOL

  • that is so weird...my family does the same thing! i thought we were the only one's b/c i everyone i knew growing up didn't know this movie. i'm all grown and have moved out, but i still do it.

  • She was very beautiful, Vera-Ellen. Wow I think she had the smallest waist I'd ever seen on a girl! I love this song and dance though! And this movie! I watch it at least at every christmas time lol.

  • I agree her waist is tiny! Almost like Aurora From Sleeping Beauty :3

  • Her eating disorder didn't "destroy" her throat! She was covering it up because it looked aged due to the disorder.

  • I heard she had cancer and it made her throat disfigured :) I'm not saying you're not right...that's just what i read

  • She died from cancer in 1981. Long after her career in movies.

  • You're right. I just googled it. I just had someone at my church tell me yesterday that her neck was messed up from cancer. Still sad either way. :)

  • Had a crush on DK because of this movie. Married a red head BECAUSE OF THIS MOVIE...he can't dance.

  • Haha. And Danny Kaye's hair was really brown and he dyed it red.
