@cqsallie So very true. My friends don't agree with my policy but I have never lied to to my children in 19+ years... not my own or those I drive on my bus. There is always a way to say something on their own maturity level and keep the truth and trust between you open. If you lie to your child, you can't get upset when they start lying to you.

She sings this so much better than Bernadette Peters... Peters sounds like an opera singer and I don't like that.... Barbra sounds like a singer and that's what people want to hear and probably the best one that exists.

@stevesg92 I like Bernadette, I love Barbra. It's the purity in the way she sings the songs... I watched how she raised her son and I know she does all she can to live by these words herself, so it comes from within her!

I'm a grandma now and get to see what I put in my son's head many years ago, and although I did pretty good, I made some terrible mistakes too. I will play this song for him for my grandbabies sake. Lovely song!

@kvsmm1945 It's interesting.. it's something I've been very cognizant of since I was a teenager - whether the stuff my parents put into my head was appropriate or not - so I've been very careful with my own children since day 1. They all know both of the songs, too, so that if I do make a mistake, they know that it's not intentional because I'm doing my best.

Parenting is the most important job anyone can have. We create loving or hateful human beings!

@lolatoni282 yes and no... many families are wonderful and loving and do everything that is humanly possible to raise their children in the best way and the child grows up to do drugs or is violent... it is no so black and white.

You are right that some individuals can successfully survive being brought up in a negative environment & others can be brought up in the best family & rebel.

In my professional career; it's been the norm to deal with families & it's usually true that the children grow up to live what they learned--though there ARE EXCEPTIONS TO EVERY RULE!

Usually children follow the example of their parents--especially as they age. They might rebel in their teenage years but as they reach late 20's mid 30's they became much more like-than NOT LIKE their parents.

@stevesg92 You're correct! Some children do manage to "beat the odds" & live differently than they were raised. However; in my professional career; it's been my observation that "the apple doesn't fall far from the trees". Children behave more like their parents than NOT!
