I always wonder about the part where he sends the little skinny guy in the back home. How did it feel of Fosse to have to turn down dancers for the exact same things that he himself was turned down for. Being too short, or too skinny. Interesting that he put that in the movie. Good on him.
What a wonderful film! This is a loose biopic Bob Fosse did, with some facts changed, including the film 'Lenny' which he did with Dustin Hoffman. In here, the film has a different title and receives bad reviews, when 'Lenny' was really quite successful.
@anirak90 Hello there ! Come back to planet earth ! Where were you in 79 ?... I was in Paris (normal, I'm french) and I can tell you that "All That Jazz" was quite a success and was nominated for 9 Awards and won 4, it also won the Palme d'Or in Cannes Film Festival !... On the contrary, I recall that Lenny was a bit of a controversy between likers and dislikers but I might be wrong I was a bit young at the time also I saw it when it came out. Happy movies for 2012 ! :-)
this film will remain a masterpiece forever. I get the shivers every time I watch it and never get tired of it. The art world misses both Mr Fosse and Roy Sheider
I adore this film - marvelous, gorgeous, melodious......with great acting, producing, editing, directing. Roy Scheider deserved the Oscar for this role - phenomenal acting. Other actors/actresses were brilliant too
1979 is one of my all time favorite years in film - All That Jazz, Alien, Rocky 2, Apocalypse Now, Moonraker, Mad Max, Kramer vs Kramer, The China Syndrome, The Brood, Tess, 1941 etc
an all time fave movie! i was about 5 when my dad introduced me to this & I can still remember my mom dissaproving of it..lol! a true classic & soundtrack that lives on through the ages!
Oh and one of my teachers from school was in the revival cast of Sweet Charity and worked with Bob Fosse himself! She told us such fascinating stories about him. What struck me about him was how he was very understanding of the stress of auditions. My teacher said that Bob, just like Gideon, would go up to you, shake you hand and thank you for coming if you weren't moving forward.
I watched this on video with a friend. As soon as it was over she wanted to watch it again. One of the best compliments you can pay to a movie, right?
was this the only scene george benson's song appears in this film? I was four when it came out, but seem only able to remember this song over the years. Inccidently, female dancers and ballerinas have the hottest bods'.

Brilliant, brings tears to my eyes every time. I never knew Fosse, but I did speak to his Brilliant Editor, Alan Heim. A wonderful Artist and human being.
This should have swept the Oscars that year. Giving Best Picture to the sentimental-weepie "Kramer vs. Kramer" was criminal. This movie is still stunning in depth and breadth.
That it exactly how I feel about it. It's a brilliant piece of art, but Hollywood was always in favor of sentimental teary movies (Titanic??????)... This is my all times Oscar winner for sure!
When BOB first told me that I would be wearing something to stand out---I didn't think he meant GREEN UNITARD--STRIPED KNEESOCKS AND ORANGE SHIRT!! YEP--THAT'S ME GARY!! THIS WAS SHOT IN THE PALACE THEATRE AND BOB BROUGHT IN 1000 EXTRAS TO SHOOT THIS!! rip BOB AND ROY!! THE DANCIN' MAN
@rkinwatauga So I'm guessing you remember the fierce competition, the headgames, the jealousy...the nights without food, if you were lucky boiled spaghetti with bread and butter, cattle calls, call backs..rejections, and a job or two dancing back up for damn near free ??
LOL, I don't look back on those days with regret, I'll never have to say I didn't try...I'm just glad that I was naive as I was otherwise if I had the wisdom, I'd probably never have tried.

@Magnolia296 I completely agree that Scheider deserved an Oscar for his performance--it's a tour de force.
