Alot of the animals in this vid are being stuck in tiny cages that are not even close to their actual habitat. Just because they're starving kids in Africa or child labor in China does not make it right for animals to be stuck in tiny cages that are supposedly representing their homes and it's disqusting that probably most of those animals are going to end up dying in those cages.

Then, more people end up ordering them from breeders. Many breeders often get their stock from wild caught at some point, like it or not, whether they realize it or not. As long as this is legal, wild animals will always be threatened whether or not some pet shop animals are captive bred or not.

I am always amazed that japanese don't keep rats, at all. I mean, they come in all kinds of colors and patterns and various mutations from dumbo to hairless to manx and rex, they're EXTREMELY social and friendly and sit on your shoulder, they're perfect for small apartment living. Yet everyone I speak to says they've never seen rats at pet stores

A lot of rare mutations and he shows most of them, and carries others. Other than that I just have a beige berkshire rex, a standard agouti, and a siamese.

The animal riunning in the cage was a Prairie Dog which is native to the US but illegal to keep as a pet. Instead, we send big trucks with vacuums out to the prairie to suck them out of their holes and then we kill them. They are among the best pet animals I have ever dealt with. Very loving and intelligent.

Because the ranchers out west complain that they dig holes in the ground and an occasional cow or bull steps in them and can break a leg. The Prairie dog is actually vital to the survival of healthy prairie land but you know how man is. Always trying to modify the environment that nature created to suit himself. I believe that "meerkat" might actually be a Coati Mundi (A South American Raccoon Relative which is captive bred and no longer taken from the wild)...which many people in the US have as pets. That store is exceptionally clean and the animals look like they get better care than almost any store I have ever had in the US. The reason most of these things are not sold in the USA is due to restrictive laws designed more to "protect us from ourselves" rather than to protect the animals.
