  • 3:10 very difficult huh? DONT LIE TO ME YOU #%&#$¨*#$¨*

  • This is just a video of a metronome practicing with a John Petrucci in order to become a better metronome....

  • you know pertrucci never uses delay pedal... he just plays all the notes the same time

  • 3:14 - haha! look how fake it sounds when he says 'that was difficult' when he's really thinking 'god, i have to slow down so much for the guitar noobs'.

  • look closely at 0:12 his hand just warps from one place to another o.o

  • @puffywaffles shit wtf was that

  • He must've cut his hair because it caught fire doing this

  • 2:53 LOL

  • 3:10 i love how he pretends to be wrong, to make us feel good with ourself :')

  • ...I'm still alive, he must not have gone into kill mode

  • at 3:01 EPIC GULP !! I bet you heard it !!

  • "Kill yourself..".. It's okay, Petrucci just wants you to cross the valley's hell and back to be able to get near his level. and I think "near" him doesn't exist.. it violates the laws of Physics.

  • @UnforgivingCritic Technically, it does exist. The problem is if you're "near" his level of skill, then you're "at" his level of skill. Very much like infinity minus 1 is, in practice, infinite just the same.

Let's assume Petrucci's level is infinity, if you're playing at, say, level 5, and you're pretty good, you're nowhere "near" as good as him, even if you were to reach level 10, which is, like, mostly impossible, same would apply. Impossible levels like level one thousand still wouldn't cut.

  • THIS VIDEO IS FAKE!!!!! please, never slow down JP Videos!

  • @ekayudha86 this is not fake dummy

  • @xxwantedxx Your petruccimeter is broken.

  • "I was at 200, let's say that was difficult.." petrucci owns..

  • Funny how his guitars looked so much bigger on him back then :D

  • Let's say 200 was difficult... :D

  • never understood some people facinations with "feelings"

  • @guillotinedeath playing with feeling is basically loving what you are playing and loving music (wich Petrucci, Romeo, Loureiro and many others do). not just senseless wailing like many others do. But many guitarists uses "feeling" as an excuse for lack of creativity and technnique, so what they are doing is just play some pentatonics and say it's "feeling" when there actually isn't any feeling in it at all. Like slash.

  • that was a cute screw up, he did it to make a point.

really ? 216 has nothing on John :/

  • 1:44 ftw

  • 3:12 "That was very difficult. not really." lmfao

  • Wow, the metronome seems to be saying "can I take a break and catch my breath?"

  • why is this slowed down?

  • @ 1:42 "Ok, I was at 200, lets say that was difficult..." lmao...

  • Sounds pretty fast, but George Benson's licks are harder to play, due to the more complex harmonic Jazz patterns involved. The chromatic pattern Petrucci plays here is similar to Larry Coryell's acoustic solo on "Rene's Theme" with McLaughlin - just faster...

  • 1:44 - "I was at 200. Let's say that was difficult" ...hypothetically speaking, of course

  • When I watch this I can only hear adam02's parody version. Which is fine because it's brilliant.

  • i guess yamaha created a new kind of metronome for petrucci only that can go up to 600 bpm instead of the normal metronome that can go up to 300 :D

  • 9 people cannot play with a metronome.

  • WHAT THE HELL IS THIS!!! Can someone please post the original video NOT slowed down?

  • I was in 200, let's say that was difficult... i'll go down to 170.. (sarcasm)

  • First of all he says "lets say that was difficult..." playing that stuff with around 200. And then he says "that was very difficult", after playing around 3:10 and you know the bastard is faking the mistake :)

  • I don't like this, i'm a citroen.I only like accordian music.

  • @cynthiaVTS JP's guitar is whatever you want it to be.

  • lmao! 2:52 go past 216 and just kill yourself XD

  • I wish tabs were posted for this

  • @TheHornet79

He shows you what he plays just before he starts the full speed.

  • yarramın anteni

  • you antichrist assholes look "geezus" playing guitar .....

  • 1:00 - switched intokillzone mode :)

  • 3:11 to 3:12 the sound and action jp makes when he makes the metronome his bitch

  • i think i could give you the tabs if you want

  • eye ey ey i know that exercise....my guitar teacher give it to me......but i dont play it so fasta hehe

  • remember play 1 millions notes/sec but clean, accurate with accent. Sure ! that easy

  • Please send me, tab.

  • tab?

  • actually he can play like a 100000000000000000000000 bpm.. but the earth just colapse

  • I believe that I am but a small pimple on the but of the entire universe.

  • I would prefer killing myself.

    thank you.

  • its just a demo. he can play this at 1000 bpm.

  • Comment removed

  • chuck norris must be proud of his son petrucci

  • @uby54ty06 other way around. petrucci is the father of everything that exists

  • 2:53 just kill yourself ....

  • he's not fooling me saying 216 bpm is difficult for him, if he really wanted he could play at like 400bpm

  • too bad he can't play like this anymoreeeee. ever since he started playing those damn musicman guitars.

  • @TyShredder what...

  • what the fuck

  • it sounds like the wind in blowin we he plays. WTF. TABS.

  • John Petrucci doesn't use a metronome.

He uses a bee and a megaphone.

  • I'd give anything to be able to get my wrist to move fast.

  • sounds beautiful

  • It.. Looks.... So... Easy...

  • Is it me, or JP didn't do steroids back then.

  • @julio13wrathchild lol he doesn't do them now.

  • Imagine him masturbating. Light. Speed.

  • it was actually put on, the "screw-up" at 216

  • 3:02 JP's thoughts: *Shit! Fuck I can't control my self! my hands just want to keep going faster when I play at 216, I don't want to blow up another world with my sick shredding speed so I better slow down and just pretend like I can't play that fast*

  • He really tried to fool us. It is just inappropriate for an omnipotent life force to enter the overkill world domination mode during instructional videos.

We all know you can hit 216 like a fat boy eating a cake, Mr. Petrucci.

  • I think he could hit 216 these days.

  • petrucci doesn't normally use a metronome as they are too slow. he usually uses the wings of a small insect or a hummingbird

  • he looks so bored hahaha

  • All i can think about is Adam02 vids when i watch this! I'm actually doing a voice over while i watch XD

"I play around 5 million notes per second, but when i do people die, so i like to keep it low...around 2000"

  • kill yourself.... kill yourself...KILL YOURSELF!!!! JOHN PETRUCCI IS TELLING ME TO KILL MYSELF!!!!! =0

  • hahaha "That's was very difficult" - YEAH RIGHT!

  • is it just me or does the metronome sound like two marionettes going at it?

  • @Junnage Actually it's Pinocchio and his wife having fun...

  • You can sense so much sarcasm when he turned up to 216bpm, "screwed up" and said:

    "That was very difficult."

  • wow my comp froze and had to restart in safe mode

  • lol i also do that when i screw up, hit all strings and fuck them up

  • In Soviet Russia Metronome plays along with John Petrucci

  • "Go back up to 5 billion and see how good I am."

  • Hahaha sorry John we see through your terrible acting. We all know your robot hands don't mess up haha

  • accent the notes??!? at 208!?! that was a joke right?

  • im your god

  • Kill yourself.

  • lol, he completely faked his screwup

  • @MegaMrDT

i know! he knows that he can probably hit like 400 but isnt just so we dont all kill ourselves.. damn him!

  • i don't get how the metronome works he isn't doing it in sync with the metronome he's always going faster than whatever beats per minute he uses?

  • @master18666

He is using 16th notes. For every one beat with the metronome he plays 4 notes on his guitar.

One note doesn't line up with one beat on the metronome.

  • Is it better to practice with distortion on or off?

  • @spottytroll practice with amp on clean first

  • @master18666

    OK thanks.

  • lol I was laughing so hard. Let's say that was difficult!

Now I go up to 216. Ah, it was very difficult! Noo, I know you can do it at 320, don't cheat me!

Lovely person, great teacher and... Lol, I love him soo much :)

  • STOP TRYING TO ACT HUMAN! WE ALL KNOW YOU ARE A BEAR-BOT!

  • my wife gets pissed every time i break out the metronome. i tried to get up past 216 but she kept telling me to slow down.

  • "I was at 200, let's say that was difficult". Gotta love J.P...

  • LOL @ "Let's say that was difficult"

  • he didn't make well at 3:10 otherwise we would be all dead

  • "Go back to 200 and see how it feels. It kinda feels like running with a parachute tied to my back to me."

  • John Petrucci doesn't play with the metronome. The metronome plays with John.

  • @Gatzill123

but that's only when you're in soviet russia.

  • @Gatzill123 of course because john cant play with himself or hed rip his junk off

  • 200. you suck sir.(i love you)

  • That 'screw up' at 3:10 is so fucking fake. :D

  • @Blindneas you know it

  • @Blindneas If he completed that phrase, the camera would have exploded

  • @Blindneas that screw up sounded like Kirk Hammett XD

  • badass guitar

  • lol go to 216, and just kill yourself, then go back to 208:P

  • "I can go to 200, let's say that was difficult."

  • Is this DVD worth it? I'm deciding between this and Speed Kills by Batio

  • @damaruman I would definately go for Petrucci's dvd. Make sure you get the book too.

  • @damaruman get this one i have both. and petrucci's video is so much better.

  • Comment removed

  • Petrucci's DVD is very inspiring. ;)

  • I can go 200, but not nearly as neat as John can

  • @Slashe50 I can go to over 9000.

  • Funny.

  • OVER 9000 PENISES

  • @mulleygraves

    WHAT 9000?????!!1

  • I heard that's your mothers idea of a good night out.

  • @mulleygraves hahahahahahahhahahahahhahahahahahahahahhaha what the fuck

  • no, you can't.

  • If this was many years ago, how fast can he play now? :)

  • i can do 150, another 6 months and maybe ill hit 200

  • ok I quite

  • bridge pickups and reverb <3

  • What a liar :P

  • easy.. xD jajaja this man is really good

  • "that was very difficult."

  • lol 200, "lets say its difficultt" you know what? fucking you, i quit guitar xD

  • if i could ever have a one hour lesson, it would be with petrucci.

  • "I was at 200. Let's say that was difficult..."

  • @HstfSengir I got to meet him at a guitar workshop a couple weeks ago, and he showed us that exercise, he said he can do it cleanly up to 250! like wtf, lol

  • @HstfSengir Cracsk me me up every time! lol.

  • That DVD makes me want to sell my guitar on ebay and kill myself.

  • what is that? i want tabs for it

  • haha i love the description "he can play very fast"

  • "and just kill your self" haha

  • even when he "screws up" he's still playing at the right speed

  • ahhaha "lets say thats difficult" (not really though)

  • 3:11

Sounds like he's TRYING to mess up, to make us think he is actually human.

  • wow talk about God.

  • go to like 216 and just kill yourself.. LMAO

  • 3:37 is a Petrucci style victory dance!

  • I guess he trascends human limits lol

  • Petrucci is a machine.

  • He probably could have done 216. He just screwed up for dramatic effect and make us guitar noobs feel better about ourselves. lol

  • surely...

  • xD hes so thoughfull

  • yeah and remember how old this video is (2002).... if he could do that then how fucking fast can he play now =)

  • yea he gets better and better, new album proves that. but btw... this is from his dvd "rock discipline" and that`s from 1996

  • "Kill yourself"

  • he is doing 1-2-3-4 right?

    Ima gonna try this

  • It's all 1-2-3-4 until you get to the G then it's 1-2-3 I believe. Um, Can't remember the name for the scale but thats what it is I think.

  • its chromatic

  • xD chromatic

  • is he doing 4 notes per beat or 8 notes per beat? please answer me?

  • four counts, 4 notes per count. semi quavers...

  • 4 notes per beat.

    hes not a robot

  • 4 notes per beat at 200 beats per minute....

  • 8 notes per beat at 200? Are you joking? Even at 120, its mind blowing speed (about 16 notes per second), i rather not imagine someone doing 8 notes per beat at 200...

  • search tiago della vega

  • why would the guiness allow a false speed on their show. nitwit.

  • let us say that he is doing 185 bpm and 8 notes per beat. .

  • Never saw him in any guinness book. Strange isn't it? Anyway you can cheat to get to the guinesse record... If you don't get caught.

    185 in 32nd notes = 370 bpm in 16th...

He isn't even close to that. He is AT MAXIMUM where i saw him at 320 bpm in 16th notes. that would be 160 Bpm in 32nd notes. That's really fast yeah but, don't even THINK its near 200 bpm.

  • What a fucking asshole you are dude..didnt pick all notes?! hahahaha how stupid can you be..you dont respect him and Petrucci doesnt give a shit about you useless piece of shit. At least do better than him big mouth =)

  • uh... i was talking to another guy about TIAGO DELLA VEGAS, NOT ABOUT PETRUCCI. Petrucci is one of my idol. I dare you to insult me that way. I'm like one of the biggest fan of dream theater.

  • He is NOT doing 8 notes per beat at 200, but 4 notes per beat.. And the "8" he is talking about, is how much he increases the bpm every time he steps it up a knot.. :D see? :)

  • I was answering to someone. 8 notes per beat at 200 is impossible... Or maybe its possible, but nobody did it.

  • lol i can do 200 with 2 beats per click.... that means he 's doing 400 bmp on my scale
