"In the past, many of those who have become experts in Karate have lived to an old age. This is because Karate helps to develop the bones and sinews. It also helps the digestive tract and is good for blood circulation. Therefore, from this time foreward, Karate should be the foundation of all lessons in sports from the elementary schools on up."
It's an excerpt from "The Principles of Karate" by Anko Itosu. (October 1908)
thanks a lot, is a great honour to have the answer of the person that I think is the best researcher in this topics in west world, in Japan I think is Kasuya Mitani. Is a privilege read your articles and books, and now here in youtube , I have a deep admiration for you and the work you have made to open our minds.
Thanks for the kudos - yeah, some cool guy from Thompson, CT, reminded me that I'd forgotten to include the link as I have with many of my other videos. I'll have to buy "that guy" a beer :-)
Respect to all fallen karateka. My honbu(Bushin Kan, DNBK) just had a ceremony - Kensho Kai - in honor of all our members who had past on. We just had two yudansha die about a month and a half ago: one of natural causes, the other died in a car accident. He was only 16. Let us continue on the path they could not finish with us. Osu!
(Type correction) Therefore, from this time forward, Karate should be the foundation of all lessons in sports from the elementary schools on up.
