If it snaps, just climb out the emergency exit and duct tape it a bit. Flying is perfectly safe. I'm flying one of these to Seoul in two weeks from Seattle.
yeah, true. i was flying from melbourne to changi. coming just into indonesian waters, we experianced really life threatening turbulence! the flight attendants were thrown all across the cabin and the wings were honestly flapping like a headless chook
@rhillner it really boils down to how much load is on the wings due to the turbulence. it is possible for turbulence to over stress the wings provided the weather conditions are bad enough so i wouldnt say "NEVER," but of course pilots are trained to avoid such weather conditions. So as you said, turbulence isnt dangerous, but only when your pilots have brains. :P
You must not fly very often. I've seen them flap like a bird. They're supposed to btw. The flexibility keeps them from snapping off. For those fearful flyers, remember that tons more people still die from drunk drivers alone than plane crashes each year. Flying is still the best way to go.
I'm fascinated by jet wings for some reason.

is it true that the end of 777 wings can fold up or retract into the wing, because it has a much longer wing span than other planes?

No, Boeing initially offered it as a option but no airline ordered it.

that is not the flap, it is the slats that are retracting...

wings can widthstand much much more force than mother nature WILL EVER give you.
Turbulence is NEVER life threatening as long as you hae your belt on. (Excluding flight attendants who obv need to be very careful)

aww, it'd be cool! Just think of it as your last
rollercoaster ride. You won't feel a thing once
you hit the ground. lol

Yes, flying is the best way (and safest way) to go from A to B.

Nah, this AA 772ER will take you from point A to something like point N non-stop.

You are right...flying is very safe. I just don't fly on the wing too often. I very much appreciate your comment. :-)
