  • This tune sounds Irish. It seems like all the songs of the Civil War were based on irish melodies.

  • the "jefferson and liberty" song in this scene sounds WAY better than in the Soundtrack :/

  • I love how in every video concerning this movie, someone says something about crying and gets five thumbs up???

  • am i the only girl who thinks matthew brodericks looks cute in this movie? lol..

  • @abby26261 you're not the only one!!! I am obsessed with him in this movie, I want the DVD now because of him.. XD I just wanna go back into 1989 and meet him right then and there!

  • when we gon get those blue suits cournel?

  • This is an awesome movie. I had to watch it in one of my classes! I think Robert Shaw has really pretty eyes! He is the best! :D

  • It was a good movie, but after watching Gettysburg and Gods and Generals, it's hard to watch this. They made Shaw all too willing to die and he didn't really seem to give a shit at all about his men, very Hollywood.

  • one of the greatest movies of all time....would it have been that big of a deal to have had the drummers actually drumming??.....i'm a drummer and they looked pathetic.

  • that bassline is sick !

  • Denzel Washington looks fit in this movie..

  • I bet Mathew Broadrick was scared for his life during this scene. I can almost hear him thinking "Look at all these niggers!!!!:

  • @RupertPupkin69 No...that is your own opinion.

  • I wonder how Shaw's subordinate officers felt about serving under him? He wasn't a West Point grad, and he got his commission through his father's connections.

  • @MondoBeno Many were disspleased with him. Other than his young age, he was not regarded as a battle confidant but he grew in his role and dispite dieing at fort wagner, he gained respect amongst his men and the other commanding officers for his bravery.

  • for some reason i got chills when morgan freeman nodded slightly

  • glory I love

  • "we gone whoop the secesh?"

  • To quote a denzel Washington movie

    "FUCK YOU"

  • yea just so you kno blazing saddles wuz a movie making fun of white people being racist mel brooks wuz funny your just an asshole

  • What's the name of that tune ? It's really nice

  • Jefferson and Liberty (it was Jefferson's Campain song). I think.

  • beet them rebs

  • Awesome

  • lolz, the drummers weren't hitting the drums

  • yeah they did.....watch closely

  • @mgs937 No they weren't!!!

  • THEY DONT HIT THE DRUMS

  • I like the music

  • it was amazing how many black men joined

  • I encourage you to do a little digging. You'd be surprised at how many african american soldiers fought on both sides. It's a cool time to study and this was a great movie. I cry just about every time I see it!:-)

  • thanks for the reply even though orozco14 is my old account :P

  • I was an extra- one of my faes!

  • @twinmommy0502 I happen to be a Military Historian and you are simply repeating a base historical revisionist canard. Black Americans knew damn well that the Secessionists had no intention of ending slavery. You do the math.

  • @Kagetora2010 #1- you are responding to something I left 2 years ago so it shows what you do with your meaningless life...#2-I re-enact in a Civil War group, from the south, and also am a history teacher. Nothing that you said explained or rebutted what I said. You are just trying to pick a fight. I encourage YOU to go back , first re-read everything I said and understand it, and then pick up your books and read the section on the Civil War because what I said is correct.

  • @twinmommy0502 you wrote and I'm quoting; "You'd be surprised at how many african american soldiers fought on both sides. " Your statement is disingenuous at best, implying that the number of Black Americans who fought for both sides was essentially the same, and/or that the number who served the very cause that enslaved them was somehow even significant. Either way, you're asserting nonsense, and your resorting to a direct ad hominem merely underscores your fallacious assertion all the more.

  • @Kagetora2010 actually, again, you were asserting your baseless assumptions into a comment I said two years ago. there are many people out there that still think there were NO african americans who fought in the Civil War. I said nothing about cause or slavery in any of my statements. What lines are you reading between?? All you are doing is trying to pick a fight when your arguments are weak.. at best. I encourage you to read the question that I was responding to...

  • @Kagetora2010 by the way, in Stonewall Jackson's company alone, there were many african americans who fought with him...and oh in case you don't know, he was a CONFEDERATE SOLDIER...asshole

  • @twinmommy0502 I would be surprised. While the 54th wasn't the only group of blacks to fight for the north, I don't believe there are any records of any official black soldiers in the south. It is likely that they were forced to do manual labor for the confederate army, but not allowed to actually fight.

  • @JasonHouston77 There is actually some records of some black soldiers who faught in the south. I'll try to look some up. It wasn't as many soldiers as the Union army but still a considerable amount. The mentality for the South was basically if they faught, then that kinda does away with the thought of them being property. I want to say Robert E. Lee wanted them to be freed if they faught because remember, he didn't agree with slavery in the first place.

  • @JasonHouston77 I will go back through some of my notes and books to see if I can find some references for you. Thanks for making the discussion interesting!

  • @twinmommy0502

Black Soldiers in the Confederate Army tended to be slaves of white officers, and were limited to cooks and manual labor, Most Confederate Black Units (example the 1st Louisiana Native Guard) were militias and it was forbidden to even discussing the possibility of enlisting blacks into the regular Army until it was too late, if Blacks served in fighting units in the Confederate Army during the war it had to be done in secret since Slavery was a vital part of the South's economy

  • I love the scene!
