  • Although ı have always liked Swedish entries at ESC this diggi loo diggi ley is the worst winning entry of all time like kid songs the real winner should have been Ireland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    bye from Turkey

  • wraia kai asteia ataka to (see you next Saturday at the same time). ayth nomizei oti h eurovision ginetai ka8e savvato!

  • m aresei pou i parousiastria leei sto telos poli oraia to 'we have our winner' itan oraio stigimiotipo

  • Thank God for the Herreys , look who finished second , Terminal three was my last placed song horrid

  • I don't understand how so many peoples is aganist the swedish entry this year. I mean, am I the one, who has this song as my favourite? Of course, it wasn't the great musically masterpiece like Italy or Spain, but it was an uptempo schlager, a really ESC-Classic

  • they could at least have written it in english I have a hard time with my eyes looking everywhere

  • Ireland were robbed here,it was the best son of the contest.

  • as the swedish entry was one of the worst songs of all esc editions i suppose something was not totally clear...

  • Desiree's a knockout! What a natural and easy-going style.

  • Lol at the portugese spokeperson "France 7 points.. ehh.. *repeates the same in french*" LOL

  • The host looks like Robin from How I Met Your Mother.

  • Poor presenter, Swedish names aren't easily pronounced in English.

  • Italy's song was MILES better than all the others. A true ESC classic.

  • "hope to see you next saturday" hahahaha!

  • Must've been caught up in all the excitement :)

  • She's sexy, wonder what she looks like now ?

  • @CMob09 Google her name Désirée Nosbusch :D

  • @hammarwiking isnt desire noscbush a german actor? :s.

  • @johny7even Actually she's from Luxembourg, but perhaps she's has starred in some german movies, I don't know :)

  • Ireland was screwed BIG time here, I still remember this from all those years ago.

  • Comment removed

  • Well, Linda Martin were only eight points after the Herreys, and she won in 1992.

  • An outstanding presenter. She looks very well.

  • Haha "the winner is Harris"

"Herrey" should be pronounced like the english words stay, clay, ray

  • LOL! 9:24: 'I hope to see you again, next saturday at the same time.' Didn't she knew that the Eurovision was only once in a year or what?

  • LOL, indeed! I've always assumed that she meant to say 'See you on Eurovision-saturday next year', but due to maybe slight nervousness she blurted the said words out. Or maybe she was starring on another program on RTL the Saturday after the contest?

  • I think she was just trying to be sarcastic -or does that not work in english?!!

  • LOL! That's really funny xD

  • doveva vincere il grande battiato... quei tre froci fanno cacare

  • Battiato was the best that year

  • He and Alice were indeed great, my favourite song from that year. It's characteristic of the unstability of this voting that they began very well, then slipped to 14th round the middle before climbing up to 5th!

  • @trabukez best song ever at ESC

  • where is greece :P

  • Greece didn't take part this year due to political issues in the country.

  • There were no political issues in the country in 1984 (it was actually calm in Greece at that time). ERT just chose not to enter Greece into the contest that year.

  • I stand slightly corrected, as tasos has said that the Greek minister of culture decided not to enter the Greek song into the contest; he also forbid it to enter in '82 and '86. That hardly counts as 'political issues', true; I was more referring to broadcaster issues.

  • Actually, the minister of culture at the time was a she (Melina Mercouri). But you're right about broadcaster issues. ERT decided all the songs were "of low quality" and just didn't enter in 1984. So it's not as simple as "forbidding." 1982 entered a song that had been previously entered, and 1986's contest fell the night before a holiday in Greece (Easter).

  • Desiree ist just the best (especially looking) to present in ESC history.

  • I saw this last evening the ESC 2008.

And now I can see a clear difference between; just for fun,or,a competition! This year I saw only laughing faces and having fun as if they were on an "every week Party" or "Karaoke-Night"!I mean, ofcourse you should enjoy and be happy to be in the Finals. But here in this video you can clearly see, competition! The 3 guys were so nervous..it was more exciting then..But the show around the ESC is now much better!I mean, for a moment here you could hear a pin drop

  • go sweden :P

  • How different it was back then! So quiet. I'm Swedish but too young to remember that. Yeah, the presenter seemed really sweet and natural.

  • That desir'ee nosbusch is gorgeous.

  • both desirée nosbusch and corinne hermes still look hot these days

  • Finland was the best!

  • I really can't understand the way of voting of the yugoslavian jury, 10p. for Turkey and 12p. for Cyprus!!!

Considering that Yugoslavia got high points from Cyprus and Turkey as well (8 points from each one), I beleive that there was a fixing exchange of votes between the yugoslavian jury and the cypriot and turkish ones.

  • You're right, my jaw dropped at Yugoslavia's 12 points. You'll find my thoughts on that under part 3 of this voting.

  • Once more, thanks for that, my friend, and it was great that you also included the prize attribution (I must say, I find Corinne Hermes to be more charming here than on her winning performance!). The 1984 voting isn't particularly remembered as a cliffhanger (such as '88 or '91), but this video reminds us that, before the last jury, there was only a 6-points difference between Sweden and Ireland. Sadly, any hopes that the Portuguese would turn the tables were shattered very soon...

  • About the prize attribution, I find it highly amusing how the security was so tight that the songwriters were blocked entrance to the stage, requiring the host to tell them to let them up. "They won, let them up!" I agree about Corinne Hermes, she was very charming here. And I was disappointed at the cliffhanger-factor being shattered so quickly myself.

  • I was very disapointed when the video were cut just when the winning song was going to be performed one more :(

  • Oh, so THAT's what the crowd shouting and Desiree's "let them up" was all about! It actually reminds me of an even more tragi-comic incident at the Oscars of (I think) 1983, with a Polish director who, after winning an award, got out of the room for a cigarette break and then wasn't allowed by the security to get back in - as a result, he got into a fight with them and ended up spending the night in jail! I guess there's no getting past an over-zealous security guard!
