  • This hit pretty close to home, tornadoes are pretty rare over there though.

  • i drive by there all the time.

  • Condolences to the families and friends for their loss.

For our geographically-challenged neighbours : weather systems are continental (if not global) in scope. Demand better from your news sources and spend your life getting a little smarter every day.

  • The video is short, but its more than enough to get the point across. You have to feel for those vacationers and their families. Brings back memories of the Barrie tornado and its utter devastation.

  • that's a horrible thing to know... that the people were in that much danger. Not to mention that the houses and cabins in the Lac Seul area are not prepared for such events. There are no shelters up there... you never expect this. Condolences go out to the families.

  • This is devastating news to Ponca City, OK... Mr. Jackson was my teacher in both junior high and high school... so, so sad to lose three former teachers/coaches... we expect tornadoes back home, but not in Canada... my condolences to the families, the community... you are in my thoughts and prayers...

  • It has been confirmed f2 I beleive, wild video the dry air wrapping around ahead of the tornado made for some crazy structure! second f2 this year. common as in the states time to time storms come around that deserve the utmost respect . i'd liek to know if a torndo watch or sever thunderstorm warning was in effect before this storm hit?

  • meant to say NOT AS common

  • Jamiesyme999, Environment Canada could probably answer that, they have a toll free as you know. More people need to be aware of civilian warning systems like CANWARN and buy HF and VHF-capab;e radios. Although I dont think CANWARN has a network running up Ear Falls way.

  • There is radar and CANWARN service up there, but the office responsible for warnings there is in Toronto - more than 1,000 miles away - so they would have little idea of the local weather patterns in the region. They need more weather offices in Canada.

  • itsalleternal - not true about the weather warnings coming from Toronto. Winnipeg can issue as well (only 4 hours away vs 22 hrs for T/O)

  • A couple of guys from my state (Oklahoma) were killed by this tornado when it hit the cabin they were staying at. Being from Oklahoma, where tornadoes are a very common occurrence, these guys probably never thought they would be hit by one in Ontario.

  • July weather in northern Ontario is very similar to April or May weather in Oklahoma. If the warm Gulf air can penetrate far enough north, that can make the region a potential tornado target. The numbers don't tell the whole story since most tornadoes up there go undetected.

  • We posted it after a listener near Ear Falls sent it in. Environment Canada is still saying "probably" a twister. Figured we'd share it so you can see what "probably' looks like.

    BGW - CKDR

  • yea man they were just playing new videos on the weathernetwork! amazing

  • Jeez, CKDR states in news: "Probable Twister Hits Resort Near Ear Falls".

    Judging by that video....definitely probable.

    Scary shit.
