  • I just made some apfelwein today is there a secondary fermentation?

  • what song is that in the into, sounds rad

  • please tell me what size to make the hole for the stopper - do you line the lid part with a gasket? ty - agreat cheap idea for an extra fermenter

  • @lkcheat I noticed at Lowes yesterday they have buckets labeled "food grade". They were $5 each not including a lid. About half price from an Ale Pail, but only 5 gallons.

  • why does this thing smell horrible i made this apfelwein and after like 4 days it started to smell like rotten eggs will this go away should i just wait or should i take action

  • @bonibonyrrk It will definitely go away, don't worry. For whatever reason, a lot of sulfur dioxide is produced during this fermentation.

  • @bonibonyrrk If you use a different yeast other then Montrachet you probably wont get the SO2.

  • @Adol666 i used regular water bottle is that bad for your health

  • Respond to this video... ive just finished doing it but after drinking like a half bottle i dont even have a buzz why is that

  • @bonibonyrrk Woops my bad. Anyways Did you follow the recipe, pitc h your yeast etc. Did it bubble and fizz in the fermentation container? Did your airlock bubble? One way to tell if it fermented is to check your Specific Gravity and compare it to your starting SG. If you dont have a Hydrometer I suggest you invest in one. They are cheap like $6. Or last but not least you could have a big drinking problem and u need a shit ton to get drunk lol.

  • @Adol666 well the fermentation process went well and it has the semll and taste of alcohol.maybe its because i didnt put enough sugar in it because i scared that sugar would become like a preservative if i put in too much i put like 18-20 regular cubes of sugar

  • @bonibonyrrk Sugar cubes ? hehe Most likely you didnt use enough sugar. Get yourself a hydrometer and lear how to read it. Also I suggest reading a good book on home wine making or watch my video on how to make an easy grape wine that will get you wasted and taste awsome. I''ll send you a link

  • @bonibonyrrk Your yeast is malnourished and stressed. It needs a little yeast nutrient and you won't have that smell. The smell is the result of autolysis (Yeast Cannibalism).

  • @bonibonyrrk Strange, b/c I've been fermenting for a month and it hasn't smelled a bit. How' did yours turn out?

  • @theFilch turned out pretty awful but i think its because of my fault

  • Nice. If you can let it age past 8 months, it gets awesome! It's a great excuse to make more.

  • @EdWort I'm planning on trying to let it sit, I definitely have plenty of other beer to drink in the meantime. Thanks for commenting!

  • I make this stuff two or three times a year. I use honey instead of brown sugar and I always use Lalvin EC-118 dry yeast, it's a champagne yeast and does a really nice job. I find if I take out a couple of quarts early and let them stand for two days then refrigerator they come off sweet and fizzy. Perfect for my wife's taste and from the feed back I've gotten much to the ladies taste in general.

  • @Cannibalriot Sounds great man! Thanks for watching.

  • @Cannibalriot adding honey to a hard cider is called a "cyser" , pretty popular to the Mead making community, but dont skip out on the brown sugar, the molasses in it attributes a great deal of flavor and complexity, but will raise your SG so you'd have to re-calculate the amount of honey you add.

  • @MrDrinkMead Next batch I'll give it a go, heck I'm always up for trying a new thing. Cyser eh?

    Thanks for the tip MrDrinkMead

  • I hope your 5gal can is Food grad.

  • @TruckerBigJohn Forgot to mention that in the video, these are HDPE food grade buckets.

  • dubstep intro and outro.... win. Great vid, Ill be doing this soon.

  • @REALs0nn3 Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it.

  • Sometimes if the juice is Sulfited or has preservatives it can kill or stall your yeast, hopefully it works out though.

  • @MrDrinkMead Another thing I forgot to mention in the video, thanks for mentioning it.

  • I love this stuff. Ive made close to 100 gallons of it over the last few years. Try a champagne yeast on this one. Works great

  • @BeerGeekNation Nice! How long do you typically let it sit in the fermenter before bottling? Also, what other yeasts have you tried?

  • @jbrookeiv Ive used Safale 05 a bunch of times ive used a liquid cider yeast from White Labs that came out real nice and the champagne yeast which I actually like the best. Depending on the yeast ill let it sit up to 6 weeks. he problem is you need to pitch a lot of yeast because there is so much sugar in this one or it will take forever to dry out. Just take weekly Grav readings. Ive seen this thing finish at close to 1.005 with the champagne yeast

  • nice! i made hard cider awhile back and it turned out really well!!!

  • Seems like something I could make and something I would drink!!! Thanks!!

  • people in jail know how to make this and it would of been funny if the cops bust in saying are you making meth!! :)
