13th July 1985. I stood on the pitch at Wembley watching this for the first time. I could not have imagined that 90,000 souls could be so quiet. Looking around me, I saw men and women cry, as we viewed a harrowing piece of film married to a great song. Not dulled by the passage of time, intense and deeply moving it remains a powerful reminder of mans inhumanity to man and also what can be done to effect change through extending a hand to help those who have absolutely nothing. You forget in this age of satellite TV and everyone doing charity concerts and appeals how groundbreaking and new this event was - a concert like one never seen before on TV, a hot summers day, we had almost forgotten why it had all been put on, then on came the video and we were all in tears; now 47 and it gets me every time and it always will.
this still goes on today, surely don't all the world leaders realize that this is wrong. wipe out the third world debt , we may need the money but not as much as these people. surely bank managers on £100,000's salary can spare a few pounds, these people have no money at all. world leaders sort this out. Live Aid raised ALOT of money for these children. But unfortunately, it didn't even make a dent in how it was. And it hasn't changed VERY much even today. I have a friend missionary who was over there a few months back. The land is poor, the government is practically useless & VERY corrupt. And a large percentage of the country's adults would rather be given hand-outs than do what they can for change. Who suffers .... well, you can see who in this video.

If money is put into the right hands ie oxfam, then the money is spent on the needy. Oxfam do not give money to countries they use the money to buy tools, grain, etc, then go into the areas effected most and administer the items accordingly. They also train the local people on sight to work and build, and farm, thus no money ends up in the hands of war mongers etc. So there is no excuse anymore for this still going on, only ignorance, and selfishness.

Live Aid raised ALOT of money for these children. But unfortunately, it didn't even make a dent in how it was. And it hasn't changed VERY much even today. I have a friend missionary who was over there a few months back. The land is poor, the government is practically useless & VERY corrupt. And a large percentage of the country's adults would rather be given hand-outs than do what they can for change. Who suffers .... well, you can see who in this video.

If money is put into the right hands ie oxfam, then the money is spent on the needy. Oxfam do not give money to countries they use the money to buy tools, grain, etc, then go into the areas effected most and administer the items accordingly. They also train the local people on sight to work and build, and farm, thus no money ends up in the hands of war mongers etc. So there is no excuse anymore for this still going on, only ignorance, and selfishness.

Case in point, Live Aid. Much of the money ended up facilitating military actions in Africa, thus exacerbating the situation. As noble a cause as it was, throwing money blindly at a situation often solves little to nothing.
At least in 1985, however, celebrities were not demanding or being presented with 'goodie bags' for their participation. And they weren't rationalising their refusal to give their own money by saying they didn't have enough to solve the world's ills.

The reason they have so many children is because so many of them die at a young age. In the US, all children have a high chance of surviving to adulthood, so having more really is an economic strain. In Africa, however, having many children is the only way to ensure that the family tree survives.

I was in high school when I watched this concert, it was 1985 and now it is 2008, people are still dying in Africa and the other parts of the world while some countries are spending millions of dollars to get stronger and liberate other countries, we get upset if our internet connection is a little slower, I guess we will never learn !!!
