For first few seconds I thought he was speaking german or something.. then all of a sudden, "Wait a min, that's english.".
I still have no idea what he said in most of the video but it looks like new GUI.. well sort of. I hope someone makes a 3ds max version when they add GUI upgrades in 2.5
I gladly dropped Max for Blender some 7 years ago because Blender was SO much faster to use. I mean, i'm totally not opposed to someone making something that _I_ don't have to use if it helps anyone, but i somehow find it hard to believe that someone should want it, if he ever really tried Blender. Or XSI. Or perhaps even Lightwave. Anything but Max.
I am sure once you learn Blender you can use it at the same speed you use any other 3D app (I use Max fast enough, expect I don't feel like paying for upgrade every year.. upgrade which feels like a service pack).
The problem is that GUI in apps like Max, Lightwave and Maya, that is industry standard thanks to Autodesk's monopoly.
We grew up learning that GUI. I install every new Blender version (ok, not EVERY) and every time for first few mins I keep trying to figure out the shortcuts just to navigate through the damn viewport, forget actually moving the camera and all.
That is the problem. The GUI from Autodesk is the standard one whether you like it or not. If you have time then I am sure you can sit patiently and learn Blender properly but why should I?
Most people spend ages perfecting their skills with tools in these editors, not perfecting skill in navigating through the viewport. That's just waste of time no matter how awesome the tool is.
BTW, even most game engines with in-built editors try to keep the shortcuts and elements (like rotating models) similar to the ones in max and maya. None of them try to keep shortcuts similar to Blender in the end, because it's not worth it.
People should know that the new UI is a fast-moving target. I just downloaded a recent build and the UI is much more polished, especially in terms of how all the panels are handled.
I can't hear

Also, while I'm at it. YouTube's comment character limit is retarded. Sitting through Blender is more fun than dividing one post 3 times. :(
