Emily, your argument is irrelevant because he does not care one bit about you, your problems, or your CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. He personally doesn't like guns and, rights be damned, he's going to do everything he can to make it as difficult as possible for people to own them legally.
Emily the next time you get the chance explain to the DC Council why I live in VA.
Not counting my gun purchases I have given the federal government my DNA/Fingerprints as an F15mech. Heck even some of my background checks today were run thru MPD.
No range in D.C., "market conditions"? Well, yeah. If you make it impossible to own guns, no ranges will exist. I live in Louisiana. Virtually no limitations on my 2nd Amendment right to "keep and bear arms," and shooting ranges all the heck over the place. Go figure!
Wow! I did not know D.C. was this strict. In Texas you can buy a gun & ammo, clean the gun, and be at the range in less than an hour. Of that hour only 10 - 15 minutes on the actual purchase.
The councilman just doesn't get it. It's easier to get a concealed carry permit in most states than it is to get a permit just to own a gun in D.C. Criminals are going to ignore the law anyway.
Can you imagine if a few thousand open carrying men with long arms marched on the mall in DC? What would they do? a) wet their pants b) order in military tanks and slaughter everybody, or c) both? It would make for great TV.
She literally destroyed that idiot! MR. Mendelson which second amendment part you do not understand? STAY out of the people rights!!! That's all DC has to do to boost up the market: DEREGULATION idiot!!
Good job, Emily! The capitol of the Land of the Free is not free. The idea of gun registration is wrong. NH's coming Constitutional Carry law is better. Americans, protected under the Second Amendment, should not be required to have government licence to exercise a Constitutional Right! Keep up the good work.
The problem with telling them just how bad it is is that the WANT it to be this bad or worse. This is the system working EXACTLY the way they want it to--confuse, frustrate, and discourage as much as possible.
Is this assclown Mendelson naturally ignorant or does he practice at home? Anybody wanna bet he has a weapon? It is time to vote these I D 10 T S out. If they don't want to uphold our Constitution they should not have any right to serve in any governmental capacity.
I'm in RI, which is hardly a gun-friendly state. My total cost to obtain a handgun (exclusive of the gun) was $0. You need a "blue card" which is a free 50-question test given at any gun store. Then you can buy anything in the store, unfortunately with a 7-day waiting period. If you want a CCW permit, that is $40, and I took an optional NRA Basic Pistol class (8 hours with live fire time) which cost $100. The course is not required, but I felt better having taken it.
@Emily, I didn't get that "market" angle at all. I think he meant that for a short time DC had easier requirements, and not that many people signed up, so let's keep this Byzantine process? I don't get the connection.
I didn't know you could get a gun in DC. I thought it was a minimum 5 year FEDERAL PRISON sentence for bringing a firearm (of any kind) into DC. He talks about all the hype over the case, nobody knows !!!! Nobody knows you can register a firearm in DC, and if you do know that you can, you have to jump through not one, but 17 hoops!!! How much more difficult could the politicians make it for someone to become a LEGAL gun owner?
@ExtremeMorphs This is what the anti-gun community wants. If they cannot "ban" guns, then they will at least create misinformation to lead people to believe that they do not have the Right to own a gun. And just as importantly for them, they want you to believe that owning a gun is "too much trouble". If it discourages you from owning a gun, THEY win. Many that have tracked Emily's progress have stated how discouraging it is to hear this. Therefore the laws must be changed.
Lol "market conditions" they created those conditions. If there were not gun laws there would probably be 50 gun only shops within the district. These guys are so full of shit. If you make these ridiculous requirements that the businesses have to operate by and make it expensive and confusing it's going to cost a lot and less profitable. Also he number is so few because the process is so onerous!!! The residents feel it's easier to get illegal guns than legal ones. This guy really makes me mad.
Mendelson is "surprised it's so few" regarding gun registrations since Heller? Are you kidding me? Did he not listen to a single thing you said prior? I'm a smart, motivated gun owner and I would have not gone through that whole crazy mess. Which is *exactly* the goal of their convoluted process.
Thank you Emily for posting this and for your efforts in your story. I've been following it from the beginning and I also appreciate the fact that you have raised this issue and raised awareness. Honestly, DC's gun laws are the main reason I live across the river in the relatively free state of VA and will NEVER live in the District. I'll never give tax money to a city gov't that undermines my rights (and a highly corrupt one at that!)! Best of luck to you the rest of the process!
Emily Miller, you do great work with Human Events and the Washington Times. I enjoy your columns and your videos. We must protect or Constitutional right to bear arms. Thank you for sharing this with us. You have my admiration and respect. :)
"...but they don't want no n*****s down here, lawd, it's a burgeous town--MY--a burgeous town.
I got them burgeous blues baby, spread the news all around."
Washington D.C. is in fact, the most anti-progressive town in the history of the U.S.

Emily,
As a VA citizen (as your editor is) please do a follow up now that your got your gun.
Quick question to you have ammo yet?
I will personally pay any range fees at the NRA range for you to shoot in VA. As long as your editor goes along.
I assume when you went to the NRA range you were allowed in as a guest and your editor was the member.

"Market conditions" don't exist in a communist system.

This guy keeps saying "a function of the market". Apparently nobody told him a market can't exist when its heavily regulated against.

DC needs to write gun laws identical to Virginia. The sky will NOT fall.

@paramedic70002 So does Maryland. Maryland is nearly as communist as California when it comes to Gun Grabbing.
