What about Navarro's solo in Three Days when he was with Janes Addiction. Dave was really great back in the 80s and early 90s when he was with Janes Addiction. I think he did a great job with the Peppers. He just has a different style. He really coudnt realease the type of music he wanted to when he played for the Peppers coz the Peppers focus too much on Funk.

Personally I like John because I think the amount of emotion and soul and devotion he puts in each note he plays is uncomparable. Dave is extremely talented and can really give me an adrenaline rush sometimes with his edgy guitar riffs and solos. But just because I like John better doesn't mean that he is, and it doesn't matter.
Half of Frusciante's brilliance is heard in those little improvs they do between songs or to link songs together at live shows, which you dont get to hear in this video. To come up with such beautiful unique melodies on-the-fly is a feat in itself and takes a crap load of creativity, and it sounds great every single time they do it. Something I dont think Navarro can match.
Arguably, John wins. He is a master of style that I call "minimalist". I play guitar for 30+ years and Frusciante is one of my favs in last 10 years (the second is Greenwood from Radiohead). It's very simple, but incomparably beautiful. And I dare to say that Hendrix himself would have played the same way had he been with RHCP. PS: Don't get me wrong, David is also excellent.

point to be made here though, john in the early 90s wasn't too hot. I've heard bootlegs from them and they didnt sound to hot. Janes Addiction during the 90s though was immense. Like scary good.

In pure technical terms, Navarro is better.
But, technique doesn't necessarily mean anything.
I much prefers Frusciante's sound, his intuitive skills in creating music are much better than Navarro IMO.

John's playing is visionary, effortless, and beyond creative. He can play any style and any instrument. Is there any question here? There's a reason why John's in the band and Dave isn't.

john is all about the music, which is cool, and he is the best fit for the chili peppers. Dave is a weird fucking dude, but a very talented musician, he just wasn't right for the chili peppers

this is pretty lame and obviously pretty biased. if you wanted to get opinions on whose solo fit the songs best i could grasp that... but different songs for each one? secondly, john simply fits better with them stylistically. given the choice between a jane's show or a rhcp show in 1990 i'd rather see jane's.

point to be made here though, john in the early 90s wasn't too hot. I've heard bootlegs from them and they didnt sound to hot. Janes Addiction during the 90s though was immense. Like scary good.
If we're talkin about now, id rather see the peppers, but back then I'd have to say Janes to.

Honestly if your telling him (or her) to do something just because you say so is more sheepish than what he said. Who cares? People that are worried about being sheeps generally are ones.
