Yea I just wanted to say FUCK YOU to all the people who just openly criticize eragon and Chris as a whole. Need I remind you he wrote Eragon at the age 15. Ok 15. He was a sophomore in high school. Most of you out there struggle to write even a 10 paged essay. He wrot an entire 500 (ish) pages book. Them wrote the rest. He hasn't had the years to develope his writing styles yet. So just piss off and just enjoy the book. It's creative and he created a whole language just for the books.

There is always large room for opinion when determining whether something is good or not, but when something is filled with plotholes, inconsistency, illogicalness, bad or non-existant character development, etc it is bad. It isnt my opinion that its bad, it is actual bad. But you are free to like it for the previous reasons I mentioned, most of which arent insulting at all. It just means you overlook or dont realise the flaws. The obvious obvious flaws. But like any writer he has his strengths

Where Paolini failed the most is after his great luck at getting published so early I think he developed a large ego, thinking he was a child prodigy or something. It seems he decided to disregard all criticism, even from his own editors. Look at book 3 and tell me he had an editor's help. You cant. So now that he thinks he's so great and can get published and make lots of money easily, he doesnt feel the need to improve. So he'll permanently be stuck as a 14 year old writer in a 20+ body.

I already knew how Eragon got published but this was still interesting. But better than Harry Potter? Sorry no. Rowling has inifinitely more talent than Paolini. As do many other authors.

Eragon showed some promise. I personally got bored with it but I can see its appeal. People like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings so they naturally wanted more of a similar story. Most people don't care about things being derivative. Inheritence fans are either young, naive, stupid, uncritical and/or uncaring.

Eragon is not as good as J.K. Rowling - they only say that to buy more books i think - but it's one of my favourite book series, and I have them all (in Dutch and English). Christopher is a good writer, but he did not think so good about the story. One and two were good, but three was like a... misstap. Hopefully book four is as good as the first ones

Dang people. There ARE NO NEW STORIES! Any profesional writer will tell you that. I've interviewed quite a few including New York Times Bestseller Carrie Jones and they all know that. Its not the idea its the way you play it out, and Christopher did a wonderful job.

I know, I was just kidding. But Rowling planned out all 7 books in 7 years before she even began writing, while poalini just plotted it out in a year. I'm writing a series now, and it is ten times harder than it seems. But it wasn't for poalini cuz everything he 'made up' wa copied from tolkein, george lucas and Ann McCaffrey

@BeybladeBrawls you hold some facts, but eragon copied star wars COMPLETELY. First of all, even if the story wasn't deriviative, it wasn't a good one anyway. But seriously, the empire, a young farm boy who gets a thing the empire wants by a captured princess and then his family dies, he was forced to leave by an old man who in the middle dies. eldest copies the empire strikes back a little, but it had some originality despite the fact it was boring. and all the names copy lord of the rings

tolkein's names were based on what he wanted their name to mean

for example, saruman means man of skill. he didn't just break up the name sauron and change it around. but these are the similarities between the names in eragon and lord of the rings

eragon=aragorn,arya=arwen, brom=boromir,urgals=orcs,kull=­uruk hai.

plus, thefact that magic is way to powerfulin eragon ruins it for me.

the storyline was boring and not much happened.it was also the starwars story
