  • SO CUTE!!

  • @kev485 Does he live alone? If not, that the other quails may be pecking him. If he does live alone, he might be stressed and preening too much. Either that or he is bored...try introducing some plants and hiding places into his tank (like a small open sided box) .

  • I have a male button quail, he lives in a 20L fish tank, i noticed that he has some area where he lost a little bit of feathers? what's causing this? he only eats gamebird food

  • @kev485 I'm sorry, I really don't know. You'd have to ask a Vet that deals with birds. I don't actually have any myself.

  • @kev485 it could be mites. you can buy avian mite spray to kill them. but he should have a shallow dish of sand to take a bath in. i used finch grit for my buttons.

  • @kev485

    he may be just molting.

  • @kev485 Maybe he needs a Female

  • where is this shot, out of interest? I'm curious...I might have been there.

  • @m0thland It was shot at the Magic Wings Butterfly place in Massachusetts

  • forget the quail, there was a Tiny Brachiosaurus RIGHT THERE!

  • @waterkeeper03 Bahahaha!

  • I raise these little guys.

  • little chickens !

  • i have seen these hatch and there so cute. Even when they get older there still so cute!

  • they are amazing I raise them myself, unfortunately they dont just wander around like that they are quite spaztic actually lol they lay gorgeous eggs in all shades of brown and even greenish browns. LOVELY BIRDS and sooooo fun to watch.

  • LOL I was there not too long ago! I breed quail and these little guys made me want even more :D

  • No doubt! They are little cuties!

  • are they tame? they wont run away?

  • I have read that they are so tame they won't take care of their own eggs. How true that is, I don't know.

These little guys live in a big butterfly house, so they can't run away. They aren't very social, though! But ones I have seen on the interwebs are as social as any other house broken bird.

  • They're so cute! It's odd to see them wild xD We have them in a pet store around here, but I think our winters are too could for the little guys. We do get another type of larger wild quail, they run around in little flocks throwing off traffic in the city xD!

    Thanks for sharing :D

  • Oh, these guys aren't wild. They live in a great big green house that houses thousands of butterflies. They really are cute!

  • Thats wicked funny I was there today Southdeerfield right? the dinosaur gave it away. They just had some button quail babies im one of the people on the adoption list.

  • Yea, that's the place!! I hope you get one, they are sooooo cute!!!

  • Do button quails make good pets if you live in the city or do you need to live in a certain area to have them because they're noisy and stuff?

  • I'm sorry, I really don't know. I live in the country, and these aren't mine anyway. . .

  • Hi...I have 12 button quails, i live in the suburban area ^_^ abit in between the two of you ahah..anyway , they really aren't noisy...they make the cutest sounds..and they don't get too loud unless they are laying eggs..like the chickens...they get loud only when they they lay eggs.

They are awesome to have...but one thing you should know is they love flying around...so if you keep them indoors they'll definitely hit the ceiling a few times...

    they are adorable! =D

  • im getting some but i dnt know about the noises is it the males making them or females too which one is louder? and out of 10 how loud u think they are? thank u

  • Do you think it'll work if I put 2 females together? because i just want them for the eggs and as pets.

  • Hmm, I really wouldn't know. Sorry. . .

  • I don't see why it wouldn't work, they live in groups most of the time anyway. it's really common to have 2 females and 1 male too.

  • do they just run around in your garden? can they fly away?

  • It's not my garden, but they can't fly very well anyway. They can jump straight up about three feet, but their wings are little nubby wings from what I can tell.

I don't own any myself, I would love to though!

  • mine jumped outta my hands and flew like 20 feet...they can fly pretty well.

  • They don't perch, they're feet aren't built for it but if startled they will fly straight up 6-8 feet and can fly short distances, an enclosure with a roof would be necessary!

  • @organicsab they dont fly

  • @MATANUI720 They fly when startled straight up and then out they only fly for short distances(30-50 yards) and only when frightened but they definitely do fly

  • @fatsuru Yes your right, and it is important for any one keeping quails to have a soft roof or some netting, because if they hit the roof of a rabbit hutch for example they break their necks! Friend of mine lost 32 quails in one go when there was a thunderstorm, they all got spooked and flew straight up breaking their necks on the Aviary Roof, it was very sad what happend. They fly straight up at 45mph so fast! Only when spooked enough though!

  • I have two button quails, sadly one of them died the other day and now the other one cries all the time....its so upsetting.

  • Oh dear! I didn't realize that they bonded like that! What are you going to do?

  • the remaining one's a male, now looking for a female one with that annoying sound. It took me three sleepless weeks to figure this out, then I bought a partner for him, now they're both quiet, hopefully of satisfaction :)

  • Aw. . . Well, I'm happy you found another one!

  • these birds are so cute

  • They really are, aren't they! I do hope to be able to visit them again soon!

  • I got 25 Crested Polish when they had arrived one was already dead and a few days later two more had died as they became weak and died. So I now have 22 of my birds left and they're still healthy

  • Oh, so many! What are you going to do with them?

  • I'm going to keep them as they're NOT meat birds but will be eating their eggs once my hens start laying

  • Cool!

  • I'm doing a blog post on these quail. Do you mind if I use this video?

  • Please feel free to use this vid. Credit is always appreciated.

    Thank you for stopping by!!

  • they're supposed to be really, really rare by the way.

  • Oh? Cool! They are so cute.

  • they're not..

maybe rare as a pet coz u usaly find them on ur plates XD

    lol jkin but uts true?

  • they are only rare if you mean, not commonly seen as pets. you can get a bird itself for 5$ and dozens of fertile eggs for cheap

  • really really rare? i bought eggs on ebay..you can buy the birds at petco...

  • oh.

  • i had 16 at one time.

    SO. CUTE.

  • Oooo, that's cool!

  • I just got a quail today. Did you know you could put them in with canaries :p my canaries love him. Iv'e named him robin due to her red chest =]

  • That's awesome! I hope that they all live together well!

(i tried to reply sooner. . but just couldn't get it to work right. . .)

  • these are adorable!

  • They are cute, aren't they?

  • extremely!

  • Did you clip their flight wings in order that they should not fly up when outside like that?

  • They aren't mine. They can't fly as far as I know. But they can jump about 3 feet straight up. They are in a Butterfly Conservatory, it's very nice. And they seem pretty happy.

  • lol when it pans over to the grey one its thinkin like "shit"

  • Right? Totally!

  • I just got one today and im trying to get it to relax, its been pacing for some time.

  • From the times that I have seen them, I get the impression that they will pace a lot.

I went to that museum again this past weekend, and I saw a male and female pacing each other on opposite sides of a clear divider. It was really quite cute actually.

But still, I think they pace a lot. Let me know if your's grows out of it, I still really want one but have no place for one in my home right now. . .

  • It stopped now, but i am worried it wont eat. I didnt want to put stress on it on the first day but HAD to hold.

  • Give it some time, let's hope it will eat today.

  • I think it has, and i got him a friend who is currently spazzing out--not that i blame it.

  • im so getting 1 they are good cuz they cant fly away

  • yeah...these things can jump despite their round appearance

  • can thwese quailes fly?

  • No, but I have heard that they can jump straight up about 3 feet. I wouldn't really know, though. When I was looking into getting some, I was told to get a really tall cage to keep them from hitting the top when startled. But I never got any, it just didn't pan out.

  • They have button quail in Grand Rapids MI, in the Meijer Gardens. Huge plant exhibit.

  • Plant exhibit, huh? Sounds cool. It's a little for for me, though! :-)

  • They also have button quail at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis.

  • Me and my Boy are about to get a couple, were building a hutch for them.

  • That sounds great! Let me know if you ever upload vids/pics of them, please!

  • This week we should be getting them, Id be sure to post a vid ^_^

  • If you think the adults are cute, you should see the chicks.

    Where was this filmed?

  • These little guys are at the Magic Wings Butterfly Museum in Massachusetts. It's a great place, I highly recommend it if you can get there! It's in Greenfield.

  • I love that place soo much.

  • dude, they're not as good as you think they are... trust me, I own one.

  • Aw, that's too bad to hear. Are they loud and just big poop machines like most birds? Or is there something particularly irritating about them?

  • wtf?! quails make the best pets ever! they are so trusting! My button quail where practically wild when i got them (not literally but like far from tamed) as soon as they realise you wont hurt them they warm right up to you, over time mine'd let me pat them and extend their little wings and everything.

  • Oh cool! I really wanted to have a couple, I went online and started reading up on them and they don't seem that hard to take care of. . . But I have cats, so they wouldn't be able to run around, and my bf refuses to have any kind of bird in the house. Oh well. "birds are loud and stinky!" ;-)
