although Susanna Hoffs carries the distinctive vocals of The Bangles (and i love her voice), my two favourite songs of theirs are when two other members of the band take to lead vocals: 'Be With You' and 'Following'.
An all girl band that play their own instruments rare 2 c that not many girl groups can boast that kudos 2 them!! @ 1 time the Bangles were hugely popular and didnt just rely on their beauty and sex appeal
@MrBosox04 you've ever heard in your entire life? wow. you need to start listening to more stuff. i love this song but this is nowhere near the best vocals of anything. not even close.
@MrBosox04 actually i commented before the song was over and the "big note" and man you are so off. that wasnt impressive vocals AT ALL and this from a fan.
@Gerkinstock im a fetishist(not even a word i dont think lol) for stockings and pantyhose, but if susanna was bare legged and was in my bed, you think i'd give a damn? i think not, would you?
@richard52402 i video'ed this when it was on late night tv many many moons ago, still got thankfully, i think it was an awrds ceremony with elvis stauettes, maybe wron gthere, i think there was a guns n roses clip with paradise city just before the bangles sang, i will have to re-check my video collection
She went sharp at one point. But the recording of this is so good. Susanna Hoffs performance of eternal flame on studio really makes me think she is the best singer out there
Has it ever been discussed whether Debbi Peterson (drummer/vox) is really Christine McVie's (Fleetwood Mac) sister/daughter? It seems conceivable to me, based on looks and voice!
Even her "real" sister Vicki could pass as closely related to Christine, so what is going on???
Awesome! Thanks for posting this video -- it's always great to see a live version of Debbi Peterson singing "Be With You" (my favorite song from the "Everything" album)!
Watch Suz's eyes at 2:35. . . I saw them live at a little club in Ft Worth, TX in 2000 or 01, when they first reunited. They were wonderful, fun and laid back and great with the crowd. And she still did that thing with her eyes while singing!
I think this is the last time Susanna Hoffs tried to belt that "flame" note at the end. From this point on they changed the melody so she now goes lower rather than singing the climax of the song! It's a shame- if she could do it once in the studio, she can do it again. It's the amazing note that everyone is waiting to hear and she cops out!
Amazing as always, this was the broadcast where I fell in love with The Bangles (and Susanna Hoffs). Debbie's vocals on Be With You are incredable, full of her devotion to the music
danielaelmi, they performed on several awards shows in 87. I remember off hand the "VMA's" (video music awards) hosted by Casey Casem. They performed "walking down your st" and also won an award. I remember some international music awards show they did that year too.Run DMC introduced them and they sang an awesome live version of "walk like an Egyptian" where at the end, they literally played themselves off the stage. That was cool.
Well my brain is smallish and 30ish, so sometimes it takes a bit for it all to come back. That internation awards show that I was referring to where they did "Egyptian" was called "the world music awards". I have all this on vhs, but I'm too lazy to go find it all.
Oh well, my mind is 30ish too, so I can understand what you're saying...And I mindfully can tell you - sometimes it could be a good thing when your mind omits something!
I guess it was the VMA...Yes, it must be! I remember Vicki grinning to the camera with an award on her hands...
little disappointed Susanna couldn't reach the high note on Eternal Flame.... :( but she started singing too high since the begining. they all looked tense by this time.
I wonder if the foldback (the playback of their own voice that the singer hears) was too low, as often this means the singer ends up singing louder to hear themselves. That might be why she was belting out where she doesn't normally.
i love the bangles they are a part of my childhood:0

they sure arn't remix lipsynk trash like atomic kitten
vanspiritwalker 3 years ago 3
Atomic kitten didn't lipsynch that often to be honest.
Spassbremse123 3 years ago
but atomic didnt sing very well and was a bad cover band. bangles was a real group
AgentF84s 3 years ago 3
Well, it's true that atomic kitten *did* an awful lot of covers.
But (apart from Jenny Frost possibly) they absolutely could sing.
Well at the end of the day it's just a mtter of opinion I guess.
Just felt that it was inaccurate to describe atomic kitten as "lipsynk trash"
Spassbremse123 3 years ago 4
maybe but you can't say they was better then the bangles

It was the 1989 "international rock awards". Don't even know if that awards show is still in existence.

Right! I remember...the awards...It was late night here when I found it on tv!
Do you remember another award show the Bangles partecipated...I guess in Spring/Summer '87?
