Thank you for a fabulous video! This was my favorite TDN song. I think the 70's had the best music of any decade. TDN, Zeppelin, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Jefferson Airplane, Fleetwood Mac, Aerosmith, Grand Funk Railroad, Yes, The Eagles, Marvin Gaye, Boz Skaggs, Derek & The Dominoes, CROSBY STILLS NASH & YOUNG, Queen, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Deep Purple, Creedence, Bill Withers, Janis Joplin, Elton John, The Doobies, The Cars, Steely Dan, Blue Oyster Cult & the list goes on & on. Thumbs up if u agree.
@catcando75 They are not in the R & R H of F !!! You can't email them, they only accept letters. So get you keyboards or pens going & write why you think TDN should be on their walls!
Amazing song. Hard to believe how many great tunes that Paul Williams wrote. But Three Dog Night really made these songs come alive. Funny, this isn't one I remember hearing as a kid (I was born in '68), but I really like it now. One of my top 5 favorite TDN tunes (along with "One," "Shambala," "Old Fashioned Love Song," and maybe "Black and White").
PEOPLE FORGET HOW POPULAR THREE DOG NIGHT WERE. IN THE 1970'S IN DETROIT THEY SOLD OUT PINE KNOB (OPEN AMPITHEATER CONCERT VENUE). EVERY TIME. THEY WERE ALSO GUEST PERFORMERS ON ALL THE POPULAR SHOWS OF THE TIME.
This was by far the VERY BEST song ever by Three Dog Night. Why it did not show up on their Greatest Hits Album is a mystery to me. The fact that they have not made it to The Rock and Roll HOF is another mystery. Three Dog Night and Chicago in my view were the best American Bands of the 70's and neither is in the HOF . This may be Rock and Roll Politics at it's worst!
Wow. Major nostalgia rush. I can picture myself ten years old in my childhood hometown of Oakdale, California pedaling my bike around our street with my friends. Dad and older brother have passed, but not in this memory. We're all there in a beautiful dream (and the tears are streaming down my face). Those of us around in 1970 don't realize how lucky we were. Awesome time. Thank you for posting this.
This was my FAVORITE song in 1970. I was living in Hollywood, FL and would sing it as I rode my bike to Johnson Street Beach. Whenever I hear it(and that's not very often), I can feel the sun on my face, smell the ocean and hear the seagulls calling....
Dude. This song is about what is going to happen to the world if we don't love our mother Earth and STOP polluting her. I cried hearing this song, because, really this is what's going to happen. Read the lyrics.
Thanks for posting this. Boy does it bring back memories of 1970 when I was in college. The music is wonderfully melodic and the lyrics beautiful, but with an undercurrent of reflective melancholy. Still has that power 42 years later. Remarkable that it has the ability to move me at 62 almost the same way it did when I was 20.
1970 i had 19 years old when i hear this song for the first time such a beautiful time bringing back good memories still love this song is one of my favorites
I too remember this song back in Kansas City on a cool fall grey September day in 1970. I was 17 listening to WHB radio 71. The Dj made a special intro about this song, I paid close attention to it and fell in love with. Three Dog Night appeared at a place called "The Attic in KC. TDJ are indeed some Kool blue eyed Soul Brothers and I don't think we'll ever get good decent music like this again. Thank you for posting this song.
@geegon50 I was a freshman in college in Olathe in 1970 and remember WHB quite well. They used to put their Top 40 list in all the Head shops and music stores. I remember TDN was at Memorial Hall in the spring of 71 I think and I didn't have the $12 to go see them.
@AnthonyT50 Hey Anthony, I had just graduated from Central High in KC 1970 and yes WHB was a really cool station. I wished I had the money to see TDN too. This is off the record but I looked in the KC star Arcives, 1969 I believe and saw where Jimi Hendrix was appearing at the Municipal auditorium for only 5 dollars a ticket. How about that. Anyway, I wish I could have seen TDN with all the original members back then. Thanks for the message.
I ran to the record store and grabbed this 45 as soon as it hit the store. Still makes me feel good after all these years. Great song and thanks. Peace out!!!
This tune came out in the fall of 1970 when I was 14. Reminds me of starting high school that September. Not one of Three Dog Night's most popular songs, but definitely one of their best. Written by Paul Williams and Roger Nichols, who had another big hit in Fall 1970 with the Carpenters' version of their song "We've Only Just Begun"
A good friend died in a car wreck the night we were all sitting around listening to this, lt always makes me think of him. He died on October 22, 1971, Miss you John.
Yes, they rank at the top of the greatest of bands; and this....this is the best song of all time..........I get tears in my eyes everytime I hear it...so nostalgic of that time period.
Besides Pieces of April THIS is one of my favorite Three Dog Night songs they ever recorded. When I heard it on their album originally back in the day, I fell in love with it!Still love it!!
I was told three dog night were notorious perfectionists when recording, got that from an old interview, It seems to make a big difference when you listen, you can hear everything they wanted you to hear, nothing gets buried with them.......
I was out t walking just now and heard this song on an oldies station- made me cry the sense of nostalgia was so great...something about it.Your graphics are awesome too...
Gosh, this is a great song. And never was a very big hit. But right now, 40 years later, it sounds so soothing and calming (especially sitting here with a little rum in me, lol).
I love 3 Dog Night's stuff and this song was not on their Greatest Hits. I can't imagine leaving this off, but they did. I think this may have been their best song although it was not a commercial success; it's my favorite!
Thanks so much for posting this gorgeous song and its lyrics and the year it came out. 1970 was such a big year for me, music-wise. Even though I was only a tot (I was 9), I could spot a great song when I heard one!! (Rhyme included at no extra charge!!)
@LiddleBethy It was a big year for me too - I was born then. Yippee!!! February 18. The last day of the Aquarius. I like this song, and I never knew who sang it. Peace to you.
I come back to watch these images and listen to this wonderful song again and again...........you put the whole thing together so very well and blended things beautifully....it captures drama and a mood......thank you so much for posting it!
Listen to the execution of this song...ONLY THREE DOG NIGHT could make this happen (as windyazdesert already said). They had some freaking great music that never got airplay...and it's a damn shame. So talented, so under appreciated...
Man, does this bring back some great memories of Junior High School! This song is truly a treasure from 3 Dog Night...thanks for sharing this feel good song...
Amazing! We thought life was "too fast" in 1970. Remember, no cell phones, no computers, no CDs, no DVDs, no VCRs. Didn't know how good we had it. Thanks for posting - this song is something worth remembering!!
This was one of my favorites! A very subtle song for Three Dog Night, but wonderfully crafted...and I agree with the earlier comment about the Hammond organ, too! Mellow, tuneful, just a good song with such a good feeling! (nota bene: misheard lyrics: when I was 13, I thought they said "whenever I need to leave the law behind"
i should have been the forest ranger like i wanted to - 40 years later i realize my mistake for not going with my first thought - always listen to that little voice in your head - its right most of the time
Thank you for making me FEEL again. I shut down due to the reality of the world at this time. That is not healthy. Thank you for reminding me to breath in while I can.
The very talented Paul Williams wrote this song (he eventually wrote another song that Three Dog Night eventually went on to do was "Just An Old Fashioned Love Song" in which Paul also recorded too which lead onto futher success down the road with songs penned for television and motion pictures like The Boy In The Plastic Bubble**(**What Would They Say) also 1979's The Muppet Movie ( The Rainbow Connection and other songs)
You did a really nice job with this video and you put it together with my favorite 3 Dog Night song. Thank you . Things have been pretty tough recently and I sure needed this. Thanks again.
Senior year 1975...........the 70's was a great time to be a TDN fan. I always thought they did not get the attention they deserved. But in there own way they made a lot of us 70's rockers happy. Still making me happy, thanks for the memory post!
@hotstuffandicecream If a classic, rock band of this caliber does not receive the accolades that it deserves, and smutty-talk bands do receive undeserved praise, that only proves one thing: "Lots of people have poor taste in music." Long live TDN. I saw TDN in concert in late 1983, and then again this past January.
I don't know of any instrument that can make the hair stand up on the back of your neck like this Hammond organ. The key is knowing when to let it float or give it the gas. This song does all that. Man this song is awesome after all these years. Thanks for making this!
I love this song. It takes me back to when I was 6 and going to the campground 70 miles outside the city and this song would be playing on the radio in the car around 1971. Great job with the video too, I come here to listen and watch it when I want to hear this gem.Thank you for sharing !
always been a favorite. wow! just as good now as when i first heard it. how time has flown. thanks for putting it on.

Love this tune.
