  • just curious, how much slower games work on linux? coz my friend's laptop has a hd5650 which is generally a bit better than the gt525m on my laptop, tho lot of benchmark perform faster on the gt525m. but he is running on linux(for program purpose), me running on win7. however he can't even run games like left for dead, halo 1, doom 3 smoothly, somethime like 10fps. while i can run crysis 2, all new demanding games fine on medium high setting.

  • yeah, WINE actually slows down the gameplay A LOT, with your GPU I would suggest trying crossxgames or smth like that, I'm not sure about the title, but thats a program, game emulator, designed for linux based programs, I used it to play warcraft 3 on my acer aspire one, and it played smoothly comparing to WINE which caused major FPS decrese.

  • the only thing stopping me 4m shifting to linux...is gaming :/

  • This is very promising. I never thought I'd see the day.

  • @Bayonetta4 If only, If only.

  • Gah :( my Crysis always crashes on Ubuntu 11.04 Beta2 with 1.3 wine :/ No idea how to fix it :(

  • where did u get that demo from? winetricks?

  • Nasa are using linux !!!

  • @Bayonetta4 That's like saying that we should unite ice creams and hot dogs in one perfect meal that has every good thing of each and no bad things.

There are certain things that aren't compatible... and if you force it, it is disgusting.

  • is posible with starcraft 2?

  • Woot the loding ti eis much faster the on windows. Even faster then my Core i7 930 with the ATI 5870 :O Fuck yeah Linux Rules!

  • You need a NASA computer to play Crysis on medium with Linux...

FUCK YOU MICROSOFT for ripping game developers off! Linux is free they ain't no corporation or company so game developers wont develop games for Linux because no one pays them to do so

  • @SMGJohn NASA still has computers running on 486. I think you are overestimating their capabilities.

The Apollo mission that took us to the moon was powered by a 1Mhz computer (that was humongous in the 60's). The rovers in Mars are powered by a 20Mhz CPU with 128DRAM, your computer is still a thousand times faster.

  • Lol@Windows Emulator

  • Crysis is now sorta gold/plat in wine. Wich means only some minor tweaks needed to run it properly. I tired it, played it, no graphical error. Since i've got only a 9600GT graphic card at the moment it laggs like hell but other are saying it runs quite smooth with newer GFX card. Soon im gonna invest into a gtx460 or GTX560 so im gonna be able to play it all day!

  • FUCK YOU MICROSOFT!

  • I find it pointless to run games on linux. If you are a gamer why would you run linux at all? Windows would be so much better then.

  • Its not really, game companies have a partnership with Microsoft and of couse they will design a version specific for Windows. If each company makes a game version for Linux then Windows will be extinct.I mean what more would someone what ?Most servers use a Linux distribution for its stability and tight security,Linux also has driver suport and its free. Now Linux distribution with support from most of game companies means Microsoft would go bankrupt.

  • There's no sound in this video. Does WINE not support sound?

  • How well do you think it would run on my setup?

Wine 1.2.1 (not sure if that's right)

    Pentium 4 (Dual-core) 2.39 GHz each

Ati Radeon 3850 512 MB (AGP card)

    1.5 GB DIMM RAM

    Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx 32-bit

  • @Cobaltarian I think, with a little bit luck, all on medium with a FPS of ~25

  • i heard some one is porting dx 10 to linux so maybe games will run better

  • i was surprized i just installed linux and cod4 ran BETTER than in windows.

  • That crab (HIS NAME IS SCUTTLES) Caused the crash, he doesn't like you.

  • WINBLOZE 4EVER!!!!

  • good stuff, too bad running games on wine can be worse than on windows. I switched to linux but I cant play CSS anymore

  • nice job man :D

  • windows xp/vista/7/etc etc is all the same, im glad that microsoft dont improve their products. Look at this video WE WILL RULE ..... HEIL!!!! LINUX HEIL!!! TUX

  • LOL ...Crysis on Linux: crash every 30 seconds..nice way to play a game that came out 2 years earlier

  • lol why are you all arguing here. Here is the deal

WIndows=system made for games,if you are a fucking kid go and install and play you damned games.

Linux=powerful system, made for real computer users.

  • Just jumping from button to button make it look like a console...

  • Linux Fuking

  • friend you should use windoes 7 and a hd 5970. then Crysis will be realistic

  • @iron888888 :-)

  • @iron888888

    Butthurt spotted.

  • @iron888888 you ignorant fuck. I use Windows 7 as PRIMARY os for gaming and everything and love it and even I fully love Ubuntu aswell because it is an open-source community, people working for people with no hope of earning any money. LINUX IS AWESOME.

  • @iron888888 if youre not retarded dickhead remove this comment

  • are all direct3d effects functional? i mean, if i had a good system could i run it through wine on maximum settings?

  • @NiGhtMarEs0nWax No, not at this point.

  • @DaweyYT do you used open gl.....

  • @NiGhtMarEs0nWax Yes, I do. All setting on Very High. Works perfect, every effect is wrapped to OpenGL. Im able to run Crysis through DirectX 10 with wine with a good framerate: +30.

  • I've never had to download a driver on Linux.

  • your full of shit

  • @bullets4hire Huh?

  • @bullets4hire what about his full of shit?

  • Windows.OSX, really any better? video card, audio card, mobo, windows, office, network, winamp, IE, optical, media center, printers, scanners, mice, k/b, software, etc. everything really. seems like a standard thing with PC's

    ummmmm lulz

  • When companys start to support Linux, that wiil be ah great day for gamers :D

Free OS and cool perfomance (H)

    xD

  • it must've been hard to make it install in Linux wow rofl, i used linux once in my life and that lasted for 1week it was kinda hard to learn its language and i stopped learning it good video though

  • @ghostman8484 try Ubuntu. Even Grandma could do it. Dont need to know terminal.

  • @ghostman8484 wow is so easy to run with wine.Just install it and then type wine Wow.exe -opengl

  • Wish there were more games developers that would develop games on the openGL engine... We still need a Microsoft to play games on pc, what a shame.

    5 stars for effort!

  • out of all the games you could choose to run on linux, you pick crysis?

    crysis barely runs on windows!

    still kinda cool.

and i see you have tf2 there too! :D

sometimes i even play TF2 on mac

  • @captainclayman This should be considered a test of Wine. Crysis isn't a game that I would normally play.

  • @DaweyYT Would you say Crysis runs better on Wine or Windows?

  • @0m3n1337 It runs much better on Windows.

  • @Xkoxchoto What is your point? This is the best I've got Crysis running through patches, wine registry settings and different game settings, all according to the Appdb and other sources. And it doesn't run good. I haven't claimed that Wine is mainly for games. Most Windows games simply run better in Windows. If you claim something else then you are mental. And yeah, fuck off you fucking cunt :-D

  • @DaweyYT a question, i have directx on wine but does wine use more gpu than cpu?

  • @Xkoxchoto it may not be made for games but a hell of a lot of people are able to successfully game with it. instead of being so rude and negative just be nicer. it's the same asshole attitude that causes people to be seen as less than they are.

  • @DaweyYT whats up with those shadows?

  • ???? that was when the game like only came out lol

  • Holy fuck, that is awesome!

This is one of the reasons i love linux! :D

  • Much better in Windows at the moment.

  • man im a gamer and im sick of windows crashes all the time. i wanna change but also want to have games on it, so if it ever happens ill try Wine ;)

  • Yeah, WINE works great for older games, but games like this I would probably stick to play in Windows, until it works better. :)

  • well, the games i play most is Fallout 3, World of Warcraft and Counter Strike: Soure. Know if they will work good? And will you be able to install the DLC's and mods for Fallout 3?

  • @Fisaren Fallout 3 and WoW should work with Wine default settings. I've never tried Counter Strike.

  • oh, cool ! It work almost without a bugs. I will play it too. Just seen at appdb people say it does not works, hehehehe :)

    thx

  • Yeah, the only problem is that it is a bit slow and the unfortunate crashing. :/

    Thanks for your comment.

  • Crysis in Linux? Crysis in Windows is STILL impossible for me.

  • ^_^

  • Impressive, Linux/wine rocks.

  • Yeah! :)

  • Man, you're a my hero! =)))

  • Haha, thanks. :P

  • its playable.. im looking to linux for mybudget build but i hope the support for crysis rises

  • Yeah, if you give it some time I think it will be quite playable.

  • As Darth Vader said,

    "Impressive... Most impressive".

  • "Nooo, nooo! That's not true! That's impossible!"

  • wine is very good on fast machines but in slow machines you are fuck up!!!!!

  • Yeah.

  • Dawey, Microsoft is mad at you again lol. Seriously, nice work. I am starting to show confidence as well over the Linux OS. Sounds like the game crashes due to driver support, hope you fix that to view this again in all its glory. How is it's settings?

  • Lol, I don't think so, and I don't hope so because I'm going to start study computer science on university next week. xD

  • my faith in linux has been restored

  • Lol : P

  • Crysis is a buggy game. (Even on windows)

  • yes, but it still works a lot better in Windoze at the moment.

  • What cpu do you have?On what settings do you play it?What lags does it have?Is it beter or worse than Windows?

  • Impressive.

    Nice video response.

  • I just decided to try out it with the latest version, and just thought I would show how WINE has improved since you recorded your video. :)

What Nvidia driver version did you use?

  • Sorry, I don't remember.

  • HOLYSHIT! How is that possible? Considering how much ground popular distros are gaining, MS going down hill, and how far compatibility layers/emulators are improving I'd say there's no more need for Windows.

  • i did not think it was possible but crysis running on linux this good wine really came a long way. also how is fedora?

  • Yeah, to bad it crashes from time to time, I don't know if this problem occurs with the retail version.

Fedora 10 is quite nice, it's certainly more stable than when I tried Fedora 9. It's a bit harder than Ubuntu but If you can handle some terminal stuff then it's not that hard. :)

  • Nice (:

  • Yeah, give the development of WINE and the Nvidia drivers a ½ year and I think we will see a much better (crash free) result. : )
