But they WERE using capoeira. What people don't realize is that many modern forms of capoeira do use grappling and takedowns. However, these types of moves are often considered rude in the roda. It is similar how in other martial arts it is generally rude to go for the eyes or groin (also used in capoeira). Do your research before you talk smack.
HAHAHAH what's funny is that once it becomes a REAL fight the dude pulls guard in typical BJJ fashion..... boxing and wrestling???? yeah somewhat but Jiujitsu is where it's at. Wrestling is just holding someone down. BJJ Is putting them to sleep.. :)
youre right, the thing is the dancing part is how you train it. when you get into a real fight you dont dance anymore, u just kick and take down, etc. but a lot of people that do capoeira dont understand that. its like a kung fu guy doing his form in a fight, no no no, thats how he practices, but in the stree all about survival man.
@kurosakilito So I guess the next question is why do they not practice in the same manner in which they fight? Why would they practice the dance if it has no application in the fight?
It all turned into an MMA fight using anything BUT Capoeira. I find that funny.
@WonderStoned: True. I wondered this with Kung Fu (which is what I really practice more), and capoeira, and Tae Kwon Do when I was a kid. Why do forms? Why do the dance? Why do the wooden dummy in Wing Chun? And yet, even Bruce Lee did it. Even Goerge St. Pierre, even Lyoto Machida. I guess there are many answers, I am by no means a master. But my humble opinion would be for 2 reasons, 1. to sharpen technique through repitition. And 2. Tradition. Specially in the case of capoeira.
@kurosakilito@kurosakilito But the moves with the dummy and the carenza with the kali sticks and the forms in silat or other such arts all have great purpose in relevance to fighting. They teach so much about movement and forward energy and a zillion other things. When watching the MMA fighters workout their actions are directly related to fighting. You can also see that is the fights. The Capoeira people 'in this video' TOTALLY ABANDONED their art as soon as the fight broke out.
@WonderStoned: and in the end everything turns out to be mma when it comes to application, just that some arts focus more on grappling, some more on high and low kicks, some on boxing, but they all have to know a little of all. Watch Capoeira Topazio Jiujitsu. They are very much closer to the idea of capoeira which was disolved as it became popular, like all arts. looks like a dance cause the slaves wanted to keep it a secret that they were training, but they really trained kicks and takedowns

I love hoe the one girl screams like yeah this is cool because she doesn't know any better. The guy in the blue seemed annoyed from the begining.

I was thinking exactly the same thing
Some say it's cool to watch ( personaly I don't like it or see the point) but no matter how you put it, as a martial art is crap
guess its better than tap dancing in a fight
