Part #1 My brother had one of these. After a couple months, the thing started acting weird. Finally, it got to where it would play a movie for a bit, then freeze. I opened the thing up to find out what was going on and found two major problems. Nearly all of the components are surface mount which means the connections cannot take jarring or vibrations for very long. If you want the kids to be able to watch cartoons in the car, the Venturer PDV880 can't handle it. Read on...
Part #2 Second, the DVD spindle is powered by a brushed motor, driven by a chip made for brushless motors. Every time I see this setup, it fails. To make it simpler, the motor and driver chip are miss-matched. Fortunately, they had the foresight to output the chip through a transistor, but unfortunately, that transistor doesn't even have the output capability of the driver chip. More simply, they knew of the mis-match, then made it worse by using crummy components. You get what you pay for.
Two more things, there's only one on-board speaker. This makes it mono. If you want stereo, you have to use headphones, or use the stereo output with some other source. (I.E. Computer speakers will work just fine.) And, the online specs show the A/V - RCA Jacks are labelled as "Input". This is incorrect, and as the product itself states that they are most definitely "Out"put. The only input for this device is where you put the disk on the spindle.

All that to say this, be very careful with it, don't use it too much, and it should last a while. It is kind of cute. :)

how did you charge it up if there's no charger? And is there a remote?

There is a charger, but I mistakenly forgot to put it back in the box. There is not a remote.
