It makes me laugh looking back at all the comments of people thinking nVidia would actually be successful with Fermi, what a fail. Performance crown has definitely moved to ATI. There is NO way that they can release a 495 without redesigning the architecture. It runs way too hot in the 480, 10 degrees hotter than the 5970 and it gets worse when you SLi them.
@RyanADillon A lot of them are made to run hot - they can withstand the heat and continue to run fine. The temperatures depend more on the cooling in your case. Have you ever heard of aftermarket cooling? EVGA hydro copper?
More power consumption/output = more heat, typically.
Also.. ATI = AMD and AMD = failsauce. ATI might have some decent GPUs out right now but their driver support always has and will fail in comparison to nVidia imo.
@cygmarx If AMD were a fail company they wouldn't still be around today and competing with a company 15x their size (and only has 2-3x the market share). What AMD produces on its limited capital base is insane. Soon ATI will have the leadership in market share, just check the trends of the Steam Hardware Survey. The 400 series is just the first nail in the coffin. Being designed to run hot isn't a good thing, more heat, power consumption and noise = failsauce x3.
@RyanADillon kk sweetheart. Whatever helps you sleep @ night. :)
The reason ATI is popular right now according to the "Steam Hardware Trends" is because they're cheap, and America's economy is fucked. I'm not saying ATI sucks or AMD completely blows but ATI's driver support most definitely does.
How is it you're so educated when it comes to nVidia's temperatures when you're an ATI fanboy? Do you speak of that which you do not know? I hope you're not assuming. :(
Actually nVidia is in trouble. Last year nVidia held 60% of the graphics market. This year it's 51% (AMD) 49% (NVDA).
nVidia is losing. FERMI failed. GTX 460 is cute but AMD can and will price cut it with cheaper 5870's when AMD releases 6-000 series in Oct. this year. nVidia is either going to go out of business or be eaten up by VIA or Intel (probably VIA).
GPU (low end and high) failed. Tegra(2) failed. Can't compete against SoC (System of Chip).
Folks are comparing this Fermi to the ATI card. But the tables have turned. This is no longer a graphics card it is a generic multi core CPU being used as a GPU - not the other way around.
People who are into supercomputing are a big part of this.
and that should be much? ye okay, for a 9800gt, but still its about the same price-range, you don't just get it for free ( unless you get it from a friend or some sheet liek that)
I think you right "thesevenghost", when gt300 appaer it will cost more than the 5970, I don't know why there are people how think nvdia will win. Poor bastard, i fell sorry for them!
They will. Nvidia is only laughing at their face because they released it too early. Also, what games put DX11 to good use? Nothing! Don't worry, if anything goes wrong with Nvidia, I always got my 2x 5870s. I'm a gamer not a fanboy.
In real world terms having physx and directx11 doesnt make much of a difference. Just like 3d Vision. You pay 300 quid for a piece of kit that make your head hurt after you take it off.
Ok, It could have a billion more transistors but you will pay for that and nvidia is like intel this days, some have to pay for the advertisement or tv comercials.
@j1s2f3 Do you realize how much the ATi 5970 costs? About $700. That's, AFAIK, the most expensive consumer video card that's been released yet. If it isn't, it's pretty close.
Nvidia gives you more solid gameplay and much higher minimums in almost every game,if your running a amd cpu go with an nvidia card,if you got a really fast intel cpu go with either brand...the drivers are unbeatable and is the smarter choice with a slower cpu
Mmmm, I indeed liked the GTX260, I owned it before my TWO 4890's, which I have now (you can check my channel for proof). I love both companies, they both have their in's and out's. the 5000 series just simply destroys the 200 series, while the 4000 series retained it's value because of it's pricepoint. I'm not arguing, I'm just saying that both are good companies. I loved my GTX260.
wow, fanboy abusing >.>. I don't care about the brand, I pay for performance (like an intelligent person) and every benchmarks and everyone know that ati is better, at 40-50 $ less, and use less wattage, so ati is the right choice for me, if nvidia was better for less, then I'd be an nvidia boy -__-. I hate noob fanboys who get ripped off by compagnies . Same thing goes for intel vs amd, i was amd beforce because of the performance, but right now the best bang for the buck is intel (i5) and ati.

It's time to see it from a different perspective.
CPU merely holds the roles of IO, OS and Drivers
while the GPGPU takes over the role as the central part that brings the raw computing power.
Time for a new designation for this kind of hardware:
GPPU: General Purpose Processing Unit.
