i made 1 out of a plastic rubbermaid shelves and i have a growlight and a heatlamp in it then took a coputer fan wired up to a plug wish i could of gotten one of those metal shelves that would of worked really well for multiple shelf airflow with the fan and i could of put the heat lamp in the bottom of of the shelf so the heat would of rose up and kept everything warm
@caholaway ...When placed in the sun it does get warm inside. If the temps start getting over 60 degrees then it's time to open the back or it'll get too hot inside.....Donald
most of the shelving they roll behind the back in Texas belongs to powel plant farms out of troup texas s so please ask first before getting any of them yaw
Jeff, this is brilliant, not to mention hilarious! It's a really good idea and presented in such an approachable way. I think I can do it! Thank you so much.
This is so wonderful! Now all I need is a boot tray big enough for under my shelving unit and I can place my plants in the basement and have salad all year round! This also means I can keep my Plumeria longer then October. Thanks!
It does stay in the south facing door so it gets sunlight all the time. I started all my seedlings in it and it does work very well. It does need ventilation or it will get too hot inside on those warmer days. All it takes is some shelves and a little clear plastic. If you're in a real cold climate, a small electric heater at night works well to keep the temps up....... Donald
hmmmm looking at Lowes online ...found your shelving unit but it's 18"x48"x74" no wheels...no other shelf width offered...$86.97 Does that sound right?
The price sounds about right. A 5 shelf unit with 24 inch shelves would hold 20 flats vs. the 18 inch model which holds 10. You could put 20 on there but you will have problems with bottom watering. Flats have to sit flat if that makes any sense. Wheels are a necessary option...... Donald
Thks but they dont have a 24" width option...just 18" and I dont see a wheel option anywhere ? Wheels are a must ! Thats for sure ! Maybe there is a Lowes in Topeka ? If so, its 2 hrs east of us & maybe we can get over there sometime Thks Donald
She is pretty and functional... and I like it. Thanks I will work on it today... I have all the material in my home.... Thank you so much for the great idea.
Elevating the temperature sure made a big difference for me. Before coming up with the idea I was considering building a small green house next to the shop. Glad I tried this first...... Donald
Wow, that was amazing! YOu would think there would be a lot a problems with the translation between a Cajun and a hillbilly!!! LOL Your words not mine! :) Good job!! But can he plow a strait row?
Great minds have a way of communicating. LOL ... He has a Kubota tractor, a brand new tiller and row hippers so this spring well have to put him to the "row drawing" test. But I've discovered that vegetable plants don"t know the difference between a straight row and a crooked one so as they say "its all good". Glad they're like that because my rows don't always come out straight ...... Donald
Well we're both good old southern boys so I guess we do sound a lot alike even though we live hundreds of miles apart. Kentucky vs Louisiana ...... Donald
