  • @vladutzzss Lol

  • he said FINGER TIGHT!

  • Butt side

  • i just got a new kit but it came with evans heads :(

    i wished it was remo

  • "Get rid of old heads immediately" Sales manipulation language.

  • @grooovy7 Duct-tape is a Drummers best-friend, forget the dog! You should see the drum kit I use in our band room. It really needs a new snare skin!

  • does anyone else hear that overtone at the very end? is that normal?

  • @1:35 everytime I listen I swear what you say is lower is actually higher. Is my hearing wrong?

  • I have to be brutally honest I am never quite as happy with Evans as I am with Remo when it comes to the snare.

  • Thanks man! My remo head sounds amazing now! ;D

  • hehe he said nice crack

  • @ evens percussion, please re-post this clip at a higher res. At least 480p. This will allow the viewer to hear a more realistic sound and will make these clips more professional. Thanks in advance.

  • what the hell...sound like my dust bin

  • i used this video to tune my brand new remo :) thanks evans

  • He said put your head on the drum?? why wasnt his head on the drum?

  • I love how he said "old" heads, but doesn't give a definition of what an old head is. 1 day? 1 week? 1 year? I'm still going to use Remo's.

  • @ShittyMcPoopyBalls yo beeyatch. I agree Remo is the way to go.

  • Plenty of ways to skin a cat. Taping with a key is one and it works fine. the biggest problem with this tuning is the die-cast hoop. This narrows the tunable range, and he has clearly attempted to tune outside of that range.

Also notable, does anyone else find it interesting that a company that sells new drum heads sends a shill to youtube to tell us how important it is to throw our old heads away as soon as possible? It's almost as if they have a motivation for us to buy brand new heads.

  • 240p, we meet again!

  • That's a brand new head, and he's using the key to find the pitch...HELLO...MCFLY....

  • scmorris fuck you!

  • I can make a 85€ snare with dog skin as a heads sond better than that one, and I'm not God.

  • heh 3:24 "butt side"

  • Do you have to wear saftey glasses while tunning

  • he works in a clockwise fashion...

  • I love Bob Gatzen and his presentation, but this guy makes the concept so much simpler!

  • guys, you will learn that your tone is completely how YOU like it. it varies with the person. So dont judge these videos by the comments, cause how high or low you want it is your choice, noone likes the same.

  • How do you tune out that Tin Can ringing that snares get. My snare sounds great but it sounds like a tin can after the hit .. And it makes gigs sound bad when i mic them.

  • @ziggy338 e-rings or duct tape. duct tape is one of the miracle of this world, it can really help with dampening natural reverb which drums can create, it almost acts like the pillow that we keep in our kick drums to dampen the echo and to create a more punchy sound. Give it a try. Chris

  • This snare shoud sound fine. But the problem is the recording they did of the audio is not good.

  • @nlb sorry about spelling the name wrong Btw. Don't have my contacts on and I thought it was an i :P Haha my bad :)

  • @nibjones dude... chill. This is a horrible representation I agree. All in the tuning and the brain. About finding that medium between sound and feel, knowing the shells and heads alike. But don't be trashing other people and other things, spend the time drumming instead bro

  • i used the AQUARIAN hi-velocity black snare head..it sounds ridiculous

  • go REMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • pop, ping, pong, pluhh.. "sounds good...." ..... " DONT SAVE those DAMN HEADS, even if you dont have alot of money and break one, or an accident happens at a show, when shops are closed, NO, you just say fucking throw those old heads away RIGHT NOW!

  • @nlbjones And your reply is any better because? You need to grow up my friend.

  • *IMPORTANT* Centering your snare wires while the throwoff is in the 'off' position as this gentleman is doing is a BAD IDEA. (sorry for shouting). The reason for this is because once you tighten back the strings (or straps) and switch the throwoff back to the 'on' position, it'll pull the wires off center. The proper way may take a few tries, but what I do is pull the wires a few millimeters towards the butt end, THEN tighten the strings and switch the throwoff 'on'; pulling them on center.

  • @nlbjones What a stupidly offensive and racist comment.

  • snares are a bit tight towards the end. but whatever. it's a youtube video

  • lol why are these people calling everyone a "noob" , or a "newb". it's so dumb.

  • "It really don't do you any favors at all". Apparently a third grade education is all that is required to work at Evans.

  • @XDrummerSteve

He was talking about old heads, so I suppose he said "They don't do you favours".

  • im pretty sure he can do whatever the hell he would like he works for evans haha how much money do you make? he wants to tune with the key im sure he knows alot more than you.

  • @ahulx yeah, i can't believe that comment got so many thumbs :D

  • why can't americans say Tune properly damnit. "toon". Lazy english.

Aside from that, this guy doesn't actually tune anything does he.

  • Don't like this vid! First of all I keep my old heads and use them as well depending on the drum I'm using and the session work I'm doing. I might want an old dirty sound so I'll use old head. Second use a stick and not the key since that is what you will be using to play the snare and Third that snare sounds like shit!!!

  • this guy knows nothing. watch bob gatzens snare drum tuning video he is much more distinct with his explanation and he actually tunes the drum right.

  • that snare sounds choked

  • Why did they get an idiot to represent such a good company like Evans, don't keep your old heads? I love the sound of old heads they give it such a distinct sound, plus at 30 bucks a new head im bascially forced have to keep my old heads!

  • @LedZepfan122 why do you think the guy who WORKS FOR EVANS is telling you to constantly replace heads?? :)

  • @LedZepfan122 why do you think the guy who WORKS FOR EVANS is telling you to constantly replace heads?? :)

  • @LedZepfan122 Because he WORKS FOR EVANS! they want you to buy heads more often

  • This is why I like Remo heads more.

  • Caution. Anybody watching this because its your first time tuning your drum. DO NOT hit the head with a drum key!

  • Yeah get rid of your back up heads so once you break one, you have to buy more of our heads.

  • No you keep your old skins, as back up. And DO NOT replace your bottom snare skin that often, If you think that the snare are rough on the skin, spin the skin so the snares are touching somewhere else, DO NOT listen to this jackass, the video was basically a sales pitch to buy more Evans skins. BTW Remo is far better!

  • He should have never started with full turns when tightening that batter head.It should be a maximum of a half turn.

  • the thinh that I find frustrating about these vids is that they always demonstrate going around the drum to get the skin tension even. There are dozens of vids that show you how to do this - maybe hundreds.

BUT... the thing they almost never explain is... what is the relationship between the top and bottom head? Same pitch? top tighter? Bottom tighter? If so, how tight? A third? a fifth?

Why don't they ever explain this part? They only give you half the story...

  • @SAHBfan watch bob gatzen's videos. he answers all that stuff. he's the go to for this kinda stuff

  • @SAHBfan,I normally tune my reso head a minor third higher than the batter.

  • @SAHBfan top is generally higher, look at bob gatzens snare tuning video

  • everyone's looking for that crack........ rock

  • yaaaa this guy talked about replacing heads rather than tuning

  • omg...

  • What's with the bashing? Useful video.

  • Get rid of your heads - Hmmm... Listen to the Evans representative telling you to throw away your heads. - - another trick for old heads is to take a 14' head (for a 14' sn-drum) and put it upside down on top of the snare drum. Now you have a completely different sound out of your drum!

Ofcourse - this is not for rim-shots - the edge of the old head is lying loosely on the top rim...

Anyway - I just thought about that when the head-dude said throw away your heads =) Great video by the way

  • "throw them out" that way when you break the new one, you have no backup :)

  • thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you

  • Just get SWAT - Snare Wire Arrestor & Tuner Drum Muffler Dampener at eBay makes your snare a power snare and sound great!

  • That snare sounds like shit. This guy must be a NOOB.

  • @scrmorris thats the recording, jackass. that is a sweet popping snare.

  • @scrmorris the snare sounds just fine; could use a little damping to keep down the ringing, but otherwise, it's well-tuned.

  • @scrmorris It's a Pearl...what can you espect? LOL!

  • @scrmorris it sounds bad because its a pearl............

heuaiehiaeuheuheaiehaueiauhe i am so funny HOLY SHIT!

  • @scrmorris you must be a noob for looking up this video

  • is it true that if u tune them really tightly, the snare will sound more tight? like the snare in avenged sevenfold?

  • @tttmmmnnnttt that really depends on the snare and drum head u are using.

  • @googin55

im using a wooden snare, will that work?

  • @tttmmmnnnttt Well, I think the Rev used... :( used... anyway, i think he got his sound from a piccolo snare.

  • yes, because we all have a spare $150 to buy heads every month...

  • I have a brand new DW Collectors and i still can't tune it, sounds like a ringy £50 snare

  • not bad idea is knocking with key on rim, like tabla tuning sistem.

  • but what if your snare sucks?

  • What if you want a round and warm tone?

Than old heads come in handy.

  • @boilingpoint3 Heeeyyy, there you go! I've had my Ambassador snare head since before Christmas, and it's all beat up, but I get a badass tone out of it. I like it better than a brand new head. I won't play shows with a new one, I'll put it on another snare and beat the hell out of it until it's "not new".

  • What if you want a round and warm tone?

Than old heads come in handy.

  • DON'T put your finger in the middle! Since you apply different pressure all the time, you will just mess up the tuning, as many already have said. Instead, put a piece of Moon Gel or Drum Gum inthe middle. That way, you won't apply different pressure and you will have an easier time tuning your drums. :)

  • @marphi2

dude, Your fucking awesome! I would have never though of that and that idea is brilliant!

  • Hey guys, Im into low pitch toms with low overtones. Ive been trying every approach to try to get what I want. Any clue on how I can make it happen. I have an 08, 10, 12, 14, 15.

  • I used to change my tom heads almost every 1 or 2 months... But since I changed to Evans Coated G2's I have had the same ones for over 8 months, still with that AMAZING, deep warm tone on my 13, 16 and 18 toms.

  • what head is better for deeper sounds on toms? Evans or Remo? I am just getting into heads and tom tuning so i'm a bit new to this (not snare tuning though)

  • @Metal66671

for the snare, i personally think evans is better. it gives u a sharper sound like you wouldn't believe it.. for the toms, u can really go with evans or remo, it less matters...

  • this is little bit higher...not lower...hmm....stupid video...for pure stupid%)

  • lol Josh, you shill.

  • he should not be using his drum key to find the pitch!

  • @UKrocketeer That's actually how you tell if you drum is in tune...

  • @Brinemusic but by using the drum key he is damaging the new head he just put on the snare...

  • @UKrocketeer He's not really damaging the drum head, when you tune a head you hit it with a stick to see if it's in tune; so hitting it with a drum key wouldn't have an effect of messing up the head. I'd rather take advice from someone who works for Evans and talks at Clinics about tuning heads then someone who is on youtube and has videos of double bass and blast beats..

  • @Brinemusic Well if you dont believe me, dave weckl said in one of his videos and explained very thoroughly not to use your drum key, so yeah look it up. And as for the double bass and blast beats what the fuck is that supposed to mean?just because he is paid to say " Use Evans products" doesnt make him any better than you or me. And a wood or nylon drum stick has less damage to the head because guess what its made for drums, drum keys weigh a lot and are pointy metal objects.

  • @Brinemusic And to be honest, Metal, especially Death metal. Takes a LOT of time, talent, practice, and commitment. Definitely a lot more than electronic, not that I dont like electronic. Just saying Metal musicians are much more credible musicians i dont mean like grindcore or shit like that i mean like technical, progressive, and instrumental death metal. Those guys are fucking crazy good and have insane amounts of talent. Talent is very hard to find nowadays.

  • @UKrocketeer Talent is hard to find anywhere in any genre, not just eletrocnica. I think the hardest to master is jazz, because it goes so in depth phrasing, dynamics, 4 way independence, etc. Also, it's hard to find not just talent but even someone why understands what they do in that genre. Eletronica music isn't what I'm limited too, producing is the hardest thing I've come across since drumming, you have to become every instrument. I'm also a drummer myself...

  • @Brinemusic Jazz for sure, you've got so much going on its crazy. Electronica is sick but i know what you mean by being every instrument its just you dont have to actually play it so that aspect is covered just the actual music part is what you have to worry about. figuring out fucking logic and fruityloops and all those programs is a bitch but once you know how you can do anything

  • @UKrocketeer For sure, I think what makes it great when you know the technical sick of it, and what it really takes to produce and get the sound; also knowing what your doing is a different. The hardest part is getting samples to sound like someone is really playing.

  • sounds like st. anger drums. No.

  • ha. I have a snare that I used an old batter head on and it sounds better than that one.

  • my snare buzzes when i hit anywhere except the center of the head,

    what do i do?

  • @TheFusedShadow all snares do that, because when you hit outside of the center you get a ring,

  • Yeah but mines really bad, nobody else i know has a snare that sounds nearly as bad as mine. I might post a video comment of it later

  • check the tuning, that can do it, and check the tuning of both heads

  • in another video BOB GATZEN use a specific note to tune the BOTTOM HEAD. i'm wonder why you need a specific note. the important i think is that in each point the sound is the same right ?

  • 2:49 - 2:53 fail

  • can you suggest a better one?

  • the "fingertight"-technique he uses works only on drums, where all lugs have the same torque.

I wouldn't recommend doing it on older drums.

    Apart from that great video.

  • @RutboyNiles Well, if your intentionally drumming with a high quality vintage drum - You probably know how to maintain it pretty well. And if you are just drumming with old drums because thats just what you have, and you can't figure out that your lugs have differing torques - You should pay more attention during tuning but even more important, pay money for a new fucking drum.

  • blah.

  • this is the very fast method..not recommend to any..

  • nice...i hope this help me
