  • Does this grinder produce a consistent coarse ground? I know a lot of hand grinders lack a stabilizing mechanism for the inner burr when on a course setting and it causes it to wobble around, producing an inconsistent coarse grind.

  • @OriginalBasaliskos Yes, many hand grinders have issues with the lower burr wobbling when set at the looser coarser grind setting. I know there is a lower bearing upgrade kit for the Hario Skerton or Kyocera CM-50C to stabilize the burr for more consistent coarse grounds. Haven't found one for the Mini yet.

  • I love this grinder.

I use it on fine ground setting - two clicks from the finest setting - for my Aeropress. Takes me maybe a minute more to grind than what this video shows, but as @GourmetCoffeeInfo says, it's well worth it for the consistent fine ground it produces.

  • @magnusyoung I use it with my Aeropress as well and love it. And I agree, it will take a little longer on the finer setting.

  • i've been having a hard time choosing between the kyocera hand grinder and this hario mini you have. thanks for sharing this helpful video - i think i'm going to go with the mini.

  • @yolo22 I've had the Haro Mini for 8 months now and have used it almost everyday - have even packed it in my bag to use on vacation since its so compact. It always makes a consistent grind and I enjoy the quiet hand-grinding, especially early mornings when others are asleep. No regret on this purchase.

  • @GourmetCoffeeInfo thank you for your response. i have a follow-up question. the brewing method i plan on using requires a larger grind. (i plan on getting a hario drip pot, requiring a grind "slightly finer than drip".) can this hand grinder produce larger grinds well? thanks again!

  • @yolo22 Although I haven't personally used a larger grind since I make coffee with an Aeropress, I know the Mini can be set for French Press which is a coarser grind than a drip setting so you should be fine to use it in the Hario drip pot. You will just have to experiment with the micro settings until you achieve your perfect cup!:-)

  • @GourmetCoffeeInfo thank you once again! :)

  • @GourmetCoffeeInfo The Kyocera CM-45 is what I'm referring to, the CM-50 is just a Hario Skerton rebranded. The Porlex has a better coarse grind, but is over twice as expensive - $65

  • I have a basic electrical grinder that I got from target and it just isn't cutting it for my espresso machine. My shots are very bad and I was hoping to improve it.

Do you recommend this grinder over an electric blade grinder? Does it grind uniformly? Thanks for the awesome video!

  • @snakedoc1306 Yes, this burr grinder gives a much more uniform grind then a blade grinder, especially for finer, expresso grounds. It also will not heat up the coffee like a blade grinder does. I have not gone back to using my blade grinder since I purchased the Hario Mini Mill and have used it exclusively for the past six months.

  • Can this make consistent grind for french press?

  • @theDRG5 We have used the Hario for making both expresso and french press coffees and have been satisfied. The coarser grind setting for a french press is not as consistent as finer grind settings, but we think it does just as well as any other burr grinder would for a french press.

  • @GourmetCoffeeInfo @DRG5 not true. the Porlex is better, as is the Pharos since we're comping hand grinders. Both are also more expensive.

  • Does it produce that coffee smell as you grind? I wonder if I can attach the motor for my krups burr grinder onto this.,,

  • @rumvodkaf1 The fresh-ground coffee smell is especially noticeable after you detach the receptacle from the grinder top. I don't know about attaching your Krups motor, but I imagine some people would try to do something similar. It only takes a few minutes to grind by hand though.

  • Thanks for posting this unedited to show how long it takes to grind a cup. Very helpful.

  • @Evmonk Depending on how fine you want your grounds, it can take even longer, but I think an extra minute or two is definitely worth the results - an awesome cup of coffee!

  • thanks for the demo!

  • @rafayetn Your welcome! If you have any questions that are not covered by the video, let us know. Also, if you follow the link in the description above, we have a complete review on the Hario Mini Slim.
