I personally prefer to be called a masseuse because there is not very good scientific evidence to show there is much therapy involved other than relaxation. We don't really fix anything.

Respectfully, I completely and whole heartedly disagree with that. Firstly, masseuse typically has a sexual connotation, and the massage community in general is trying to move away from that. Also, there is a ton of evidence that shows that Massage Therapy does fix a multitude of imbalances in the body. Soft tissue injury, postural imbalances, stress management, Range of motion, nerve problems, circulatory dysfunction, inflammation... the list goes on and on... are all effectively treatable.

I would like to believe that is true but I have yet to find any peer reviewed evidence in well known scientific journals in support of many of the claims. My massage school will make the claims as well but their evidence is more hear say than anything, much of which has been debunked but continues to circulate. I would love it if you could point me in the right direction. Best I can find is the "touch institute" but their studies are taken with a grain of salt. :( Thx 4 the reply.

Well just a thought, in psychology there's a phenomenon called the Placebo Effect (I think you've probably heard of it). If a person is convinced and thoroughly believes that he/she will benefit from some treatment, be it a drug or a massage, they will actually experience this effect. It's been clinically tested with drugs that treat certain mental illnesses like depression. Not sure about massage but it's certainly a possibility. Try searching for the literature.
