@85Aheadstix You fail on so many levels, and you obviously no nothing about music or drums for that matter. Considering you just said that nothing remains is a good example of drumming is completely hilarious. Speed does not equate to talent, and speed is all Talley has. His live performances are horrible, he's about as creative as lars ulrich, the only thing going for him is his speed in the studio, which he can't even live. The self titled album was boring, and completely not Chimaira.
Kevin Talley wasn't a machine like Andols, more of an animal. You can take that as a pro or con. But he was quite sloppy live with them, often losing proper tempo. And we learned from the band's own words (around the time of the self-titled album) that it took a bit to get Kevin off of just constant, straight double-bass and blast beats (he IS a death metal drummer, after all) and to get him to play more creative stuff. I'm convinced most the creative drumming on s/t came from RA's direction.
Andols, how often do you find yourself needing to lead with your left foot? For example if you're playing a beat where you end a measure on your right foot and mid-sixteen notes or something? Or do you try your best to "write songs around it"?
I've tried incorporating doubles with my right foot only, but that only works 50% of the time and it leaves my left foot slower/subordinate to my right.
You're a legend, Andols. the only person I think rivals you in technique, speed and skill is Vinnie Paul. Maybe Thomas Haake. Anyways, Everything You Love is beastly!
Well Andols, you're one the main reasons why I listen to Chimaira. Your drumming is just sick. Keep up the excellent work :) And keep those videos coming.
@paddeification yeah u notice on his drums especially the left drum see the red clamp thats a trigger but by no means its considerd cheating u can adjust how sensitive u want the trigger to respond so its pretty much just for sound
just want to tell you that your drumming is amazin. The footwork in "Dissapearing Sun", "Eyes of a Criminal", and "Six" blow me away every time i hear it.
No offense but I never get why drummers want to use triggers. To me I spend money on getting more expensive drum heads and tuning rather than letting electronics do it for me.
@kohoko sorry this is late but a lot of people who argue against triggers dont know what they are. ill give you and analogy: Triggers are to drums as Pickups are to Guitars. Drum triggers pickup the vibration of the drum head, sends a signal to the drum module (drum brain), which stores different drum sounds to be played.
@sebastianjarno Metal drummers tend to use triggers because at high tempos the double kicks tend to get muddy + you have to have them pretty tight to get the rebound required for extreme speed which can make them sound wimpy at slower tempos!! Plus; have you ever tried to get two bass drums tuned the same!!
@dangerouschad its pretty much impossible to get two kicks to sound identical. My teacher taught me that you actually want the kicks to sound different cause it gives you that surging sound. Gene told me that he mixes his sound on his kicks, they are triggered and mic'd. I disagree with Sebastian on "why" drummers use triggers. I prefer the attack and the tone of some modules, tune my kicks to the tone I like, and then trigger them up.lowest sensitivity, and I play with max spring tension.
im planning on using triggers myself. you can clearly see his strokes are hard and even. its just good in a live situation, the bass drum always gets left out and its SO important.
I used the same triggers as he uses in this video actaully all I mean is its so obviously triggered that it does not sound good =/ I think in this video it would sound better without! Andlos if you listening make a new video of how it sound when there turned off, I know you need em when playing live but when prac should't really use em.
