  • I work for the company that manufactures these (not install). I'd be VERY interested to hear how your turbine is performing now, have you had to do any maintenance, have your local utility prices fluctuated, and how the payback schedule is coming along. Thanks!

  • Have you seen the TowerMill by WindEnergy7? It has more output, is a wind/solar hybrid system, and gives you battery back-up in a power outage. This system will simply leave your house in the dark if you lose the grid power. Skystream looks good doesn't it. A friend of mine has one but there's no emergency back-up power from it. Cool video.

  • Nice job. How far did you have to dig the trench? Does it give you power in a black out when the utility goes down? Nice to have your own power isn't it.

  • awesome video =)

  • I've installed over 120 over these and never had a failure or issue at all. I'm so confident in the Skystream product, that I offer a 5 year labor warranty on the units I install. As far as cost, they typically run around $16,000 - $18,000 installed and the average return on investment for my customers is 5 years for those that have utility bills around $250 a month average. Additionally the federal and state rebates for these units that covers around 45% to 50% of the total cost.

  • It's a shame that Skystream is such a problematic turbine. I know of at least 5 units that have quick working within the first two years, and have received close to no support.

  • Can you tell us how the generator is now doing? Are you still seeing the same reductions in your electric bill? Finally, if you wouldn't mind, can you tell us how much you spent altogether for your generator and installation? Thanks

  • My thoughts exactly - if you live in an area with steady wind, what was the cost of the unit installed, what maintenance does it need (bearings, etc) and whats the life expectancy of the unit. If it costs $5000 for it installed and it lasts 10 yrs then the unit isnt as cost efficient as $1 a month (although it would save 5 or 6 month's power bill). Here a turbine would sit idle 80% of the time so it's a no-go for me.

  • WOW - that thing goes $12k to $18k dependant on the specifics for the site. It better last 25 yrs to get any return on investment from it and the wind would have to be steady all the time. Definitely not going to get you off the grid but it will save on the bills but I dont see it saving any money in the long run. Nice that no coal is burned but a lot of places use nuclear and hydro power so no carbon emissions to save the earth from in those areas. Doesnt that whine make you nuts after a while?

  • Which is the typical direction of the power meter when you are consuming from the Utility? (Right to left or left to right).

  • The meter turns to the right

  • still too soon to tell but the last 4 bills I have only had to pay $1.00 or less, the bill around $140.00.

  • pay back investiment?
