  • It is clearly stated that he was one of the top printers of the time...I don't think it was ever asserted that he had exceptional shooting prowess. His technique and skills using the equipment in shooting and printing is what I strive to learn from.

  • Picker was good at the hardware side of photography. Those were some nice items he sold thru Zone VI (and I bought many from him). As a photographer, however, he bordered on the mediocre and was grossly over-rated. His vision was weak, boring, uninspired and uninspiring. My 2 cents.

  • @WhiteLakeDan I agree fully. If you look at his book Zone VI Workshop the back dust jacket there is a portrait of a woman. It is dark and highly contrasted. Not a good selling point.
