Atm my cpu is running at 3.6Ghz and ram is at 1600DDR3 T1 7-7-720 1.8v Ihavent changed anything else.. cpu v core is on auto and that is set at 1.4240. iam gonna lower that has the computer will most likely be stable at 1.3 watercooled running at 28degrees full throttle.
Can you tell me now what would be your suggestion for overclock when it comes to my computer ? I got: stock fan, ASUS P5KE-WIFI, DDR2 on 800MHz from Kingston, GTX460, and three HDD-s.
im using an asus p5e-vm hdmi, and for the life of me cannot find Extreme Tweaker, or AI tweaker anywhere! can someone please suggest where to go from here?
@MrALenCar321 Depends on video card, too. I never run less than 750w for anything I do. Never go low on your power supply. For cooling, I use a Venomous-X, and it keeps my i7 really cool @4.0ghz.
I cannot get my computer to a stable 3ghz I get it to 3ghz but my computer keeps shutting down a few seconds after I boot so I have to load bios defaults. WHY?
My Q6600 idles at 55 Celsius, at stock speed and with the stock heatsink. What is going on here? Is the thermal paste just wearing away or something? And should I attempt to overclock without dealing with this?
Nice video. I have a q6600 I also have the same mobo as you the x38 p5e and I had a few questions I was wondering if you could answer. I have my cpu at 3ghz I used to have it at 3.4 but when I would pop the case and put my hand on the northbridge it would be really hot and putting it to 3.0 under load it wouldn't be nearly as hot to the touch. My question is should I put voltages on auto? Or is setting them manually better? Also why is it important to turn off everything in cpu config in bios?
i have that conf: C2Q Q6600 | Zalman CNPS 9700LED | ASUS Maximus Extreme | 2x1 GB OCZ3P16002GK | 2 x Sapphire HD 3870X2 (CrossFireX) | SilverStone Zeus ST85ZF 850 W

@paul41770 Your motherboard well work just fine. I would upgrade your hard drive to a SSD they make a huge difference( you well feel like your on a 3 thousand dollar computer it would be that fast) Also in the future i would upgrade your ram to 4 or 8gb.. You should not run windows 7 64bit on 2gb of ram; I would run 32bit it would run smoother.
@PcGamerPaul Yes with no problem just try and keep the voltages as low as possible this way it does not get to hot. If your not going to mess around with the Voltages then just leave it on auto you well be fine 100%
@gamersforeverr I would not say all game but most yes. You Might want to sell your 9800GT and add a little cash and get yourself a GTX470 or even cheap get a ATI 5770 ether of those cards well let you play w.e you want.
Hello guys, i just made a video of me overclocking my cpu using 2 floor freezers.I've never seen anybody try this before so i did it.If you don;t mind check it out its called"Overclocking I-7(920) using two Freezers!"
i bought my pc which has a q6600 running at 3.0 and it's overheating really bad, and the GPU as well. so i am trying to Underclock it to 2.4 ghz , so could you help me, do i go over the same steps or what?
i have a question i have a q6600 cpu it is at stock speed now do i get the 2.40 up to a 3.0 i seen your video . looks good . i have a XFX nforce 680i LSI mother bord .air cooled.
am i have afew questins i have EXTREME watercooling on my cpu but it runs a bit hot still i have got up to 50c at standard (q6600 @ 2,4 ghz) the watercooling is eheim pump dangerden waterblock 3 car radiators and 10x 120 mm fans
ans 1/2 tubing (tygon) but i got quaite crappy RAM and stock MOBO cooling so how mutch could a overclock ?
Hi, DetroitPC313 I currently have the same CPU as what you have in the video. Q6600 @ 2.4. Now how would I now if my mother board would allow me to safely overclocking it to 2.8?
omg i also get that cpu fan error also i got same keyboard as u g15.. nice stuff im going to try to over clock.. oh by the way i have 4 2 pairs of diff types of ram, 1 2gbs and 2 two gbs @ 1066mhz and other 2 1gb are like 800mhz.. let's see how this goes so for this can i change to 1066 for both? how can i over clock the ram if i have diff installed.. iight replies guys
I'm still slightly confused on how you determine the voltages needed when you overclock. Are you just making an educated guess or are there rules as to how high the voltages should be?
no no guessing SImply have everything on auto and stock speeds then check what you cpu is clocked to and how much voltages its using on auto then determine from there what you well need at a higher speed get it
DO NOT GUESS! For overclocking stick with the default multiplier first, especially being a beginner. Then you raise the CPU frequency by about 10MHz a time until the system will not load into Windows or nothing happens etc. At this point, raise the vCore voltage a notch. Repeat the process. Never exceed 1.5v on the vCore (damage may occur), especially if you're on air. With a decent fansink you should be able to hit 3.6-3.8 (if your cpu allows you (some dont overclock as high as others)).
You did hear this from me. I HATE FREDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

how much would it cost me if i ask shop to overclock my processor...what do u think? 50 bucks or somethin?...what do i need to cool it too while usin it when its overclocked?
hmmm...its kinda confusing @_@...how bout where i bought my computer? would they overclock this...and what should i use for cooling...i want the one that isnt really expensive...XD..
where did you buy your computer!! some places might if they build custom coomputers, they well for a small charge watch the video over and over and you well get i promise!
what PSU do you have(watts)?????? how do you know what is a suitable voltage for you CPU and PSU????I have 630Watts , E8500 and an Asus P5Q3 deluxe wifi !!! i think i can do some overcklocking with these..!?!?!?!?!/ what do you think???
oh, ok. well that is pretty high idle temps, but i think you can get 3.0-3.2 out of it. temps maybe be a little high compared to most, just keep an eye on temps and youll be fine.
if the temps are too high for my liking, is there a way to set all the seetings in the bios back? like a revert to default option? or should i just copy down all the settings before i do anything..
theres a option yep. called "Load Default Settings" it will reset every last thing to how it was brand new. and if you happen to mess up any, when it trys to reboot, if it finds a problem, it will shut down and restart for a second time and automatically reload the BIOS defaults.
good news, once I got into the BIOS it turned out my temperatures were more of an average of 20 degrees, Coretemp must have been lying :P, so now i'm running at 3.0 ghz at 35 degrees, but only one problem, when I press the power button on the computer to turn it on, it starts to power up for a second then turns off... then about another second later it turns on again and loads up normally.. no problems at all.
Sorry to be a noob but can you explain what is speedstep? I assume it's something built into Intel processors, as i've not got anything installed with that name.
SpeedStep is a setting in the bios, when it's disabled then the multiplier only changes to 9 (or whatever you have, usually it's 9) when performing processor hungry tasks, when it's enabled then the multiplier is at 9 permanently, thus the processor is at full power all the time.
Great tutorial! My cpu is chillin at 35 celcius. (Its only at 3GHz right now, but I think im gonna clock it a bit higher soon) 0.o. Thanks again for this sweet guide! =)
i got Dell Studio Slim Q6600, my pc is all stock and new from dell, and its speed right now is 2.4ghz and i want to overclock it. Can u Please? help me with that. cause i been trying to find how to do it.
Hey i have the exact same mother board and cpu, i was wondering since i have two sticks of ram at 2gb each, do i put the frequency of both of them or just one of them. one stick is 800 mhz
Great vid..very consise, I am looking to OC my Q6600, I have a Zalman CNPS 9700 CPU cooler to install soon..and my Mobo is Asus P5N-E SLI 650i. Would your settings used exactly in the video be good for me? Thanks for the help !!
it does void the warranty however they have no clue if you used a aftermarket cpu or stock cpu cooler .. and the cpu well die faster however your cpu at stock speed well last 10 15 years with everything stock literally overclocked the lifespan of the cpu tends to be anywhere from 7-8years 7 years from now i bet you well upgrade ;)
thanks i will , i coulden seem to find my comment so i re added a one btw am thinking to get emm THERMALTAKE CL-W0076 BIGWATER 745 LCS that one will it do mutch of a differnce?
Incorrect your computer well not boot up because now it is in "safe mode" witch basically prevents any damage from haping to your pc... at that point you wanna restart you computer get back into the bios and "load default settings" and start over until you computer is stable... after years of doing it you have a lot more knowledge on what your doing.. a enthusiast like I would not recommend y'all to do this if it was going to damage your computer in anyway...
Remind you if you are setting your CPU voltages at 1.6 1.7 you are overclocking high witch requires water cooling or Evan phase cooling at that point only a enthusiast like i would be using those kind of voltages!!
great video! i am complete noob when it comes to overclocking, have the same processer and board as yourself, just a quick query, i've got mine to 3.0GHZ, if i wanna go faster is it just a case of opping the FSB Freq?
the more you overclock the hotter it gets.. A decent after market cpu heat sink would work gr8.. however a stock heat sink well work but not be able to overclock as much
only way you can damage it is by overheating it!! if you have stock cooling you should not overclock past 3ghz or your cpu well get to hot and your computer well shut down!! on the other hand if you have a after market cpu cooler you can overclock alot more
my mobo seems very limited cant do much in the bios aswell any other suggestion ? in the early days i remember you could do with software to ?

Hey i have the exact same mother board and cpu, i was wondering since i have two sticks of ram at 2gb each, do i put the frequency of both of them or just one of them. one stick is 800 mhz

you forgot to mention running prime 95.
I did a similar overclock and ran prime 95 and it got the BSOD almost instantly. Just because an overclock boots doesn't mean its stable.

You are right no doubt!! but the setting's i gave are 100% stable!! and Yes prime 95 to see if its stable !! thanx for the reminder :)

it does void the warranty however they have no clue if you used a aftermarket cpu or stock cpu cooler .. and the cpu well die faster however your cpu at stock speed well last 10 15 years with everything stock literally overclocked the lifespan of the cpu tends to be anywhere from 7-8years 7 years from now i bet you well upgrade ;)

"unless your like doing 1.6 or 1.7 even that that wont burn it up. your computer just wont boot up, so there is nothing to be worried about"
lol no worries the computer wont just start
Wiggles941 3 years ago
Incorrect your computer well not boot up because now it is in "safe mode" witch basically prevents any damage from haping to your pc... at that point you wanna restart you computer get back into the bios and "load default settings" and start over until you computer is stable... after years of doing it you have a lot more knowledge on what your doing.. a enthusiast like I would not recommend y'all to do this if it was going to damage your computer in anyway...

Remind you if you are setting your CPU voltages at 1.6 1.7 you are overclocking high witch requires water cooling or Evan phase cooling at that point only a enthusiast like i would be using those kind of voltages!!

any problems if you overclock it ? :\
snoop6604 3 years ago
the more you overclock the hotter it gets.. A decent after market cpu heat sink would work gr8.. however a stock heat sink well work but not be able to overclock as much
DetroitPC313 3 years ago
If you over clock your CPU will it damage it?
AdzProductions 3 years ago
only way you can damage it is by overheating it!! if you have stock cooling you should not overclock past 3ghz or your cpu well get to hot and your computer well shut down!! on the other hand if you have a after market cpu cooler you can overclock alot more
DetroitPC313 3 years ago
How high could you clock it if you were to use the stock fan? (Safely)
Mgjaggers 3 years ago
should be able to get to 3ghz to make sure your safe use hwmonitor to check your core temps
