  • Incredible.

  • hot damn... the avetts are something real. i get goosebumps every time i watch this.

  • I wish they would have performed this song on the Grammys...just like this...they would have blown everyone's minds!

  • @markcosborne I agree, but lets face it, America probably couldn't handle that.

  • 4 people have dirty laundry...

  • This is my favorite version of this song, I like it even better than the studio version.

  • Gotta love Scott getting crazy on the kick drum.

  • Dnload the audio from this clip at speedyconversion doht cohm.

  • That was such a great jam! And to the 4 dislikes, suck it.

  • I just love this video. It reminds me of life, because there are so many times that it seems that the song is going to absolutely fall apart...but they keep going. It's not perfect, but what is? The perfection lies in that they are willing to work through all of the challenges (broken strings, harmonies that might be off) until the end when they finish strong, together, and with such passion. Thank you for posting, thank you for this song.

  • i wish all muscians were this talented and raw.

  • @MsDlygirl He's questioning the validity of the love talked about in the statement "teach me how to use the love that people say you made."

  • what does he mean by ''is it a lie'' ???

  • Just found out this morning that Avett Brothers will be playing in Clearwater Fla March 25th 2011...I so hope that I can get tickets...

  • Just heard this song on the radio, these guys are great!

  • they failed to capture the power of this song on the album... this is ten times more honest...

  • @ffncl i agree. i think the video of them playing it at bonaroo was the most amazing live preformance of this song they will ever do. for some reason they took the vid down?

  • @ffncl I agree. Go find that TIny Desk NPR version of Laundry Room if your want to see the power potential of this bad boy!!!

  • IS IT A LIE?

  • i like scott with short hair and seth with long hair...

  • about 4:50 is where i start gettin it.

  • oh man i was at this show too, that was amazing from start to finish, the acoustics in the attucks are incredible. i think i was sitting very close to you judging from the angle

  • @iamthesilver check out the one from bonnaroo.......i think it has this version beat, just barely.

  • "me out"

My cat says that once in a while, especially when it's cold out and he doesn't want to go outside.

    "Don't push meowt"

  • 4 people are obviously high.

  • This version of this song goes straight into my 'top ten songs of all time.' Along with 'Visions of Johanna' by Bob Dylan, 'Many Rivers To Cross' by Jimmy Cliff, 'Where is My Mind' by the Pixies and 'Bloody Mother Fuckin' Asshole' by Martha Wainwright.

    Absolutely superb.

  • still the greatest version of this song, the last 30sec is amazing

  • I could look at listen to these guys all day long and never tire of them.

  • @Tracey1963 i do

  • @gilsjeep2000

Then you need to hunt down Live at the Double Door Inn and Smilefest bootlegs! Truely amazing both their new stuff but also the old!

  • OH MY GOD. If they play this tonight or tomorrow night at the Myrtle Beach HOB, I will probably cry out of sheer excitement.

  • wow. I didn't know that music could be this good

  • "tonight I'll burn the lyrics, cuz every chorus was your name..."

  • i was at this show .they are so great live

  • Great harmonies and musicians-never mind all the big productions of today, this is just real.

  • These Guys Remind me of Iron & Wine... but these guys are like 10 times better

  • I love how there is that brief calm before the storm and then he breaks his string and throws it into the crowd and all hell breaks loose. Perfect.

  • the ending is one of the most epic moments in music that i have seen in quite some time. for god sake, click the like button

  • SSOOOO GOOOOD Talk about making my heart like a kick drum :p

  • @katiediddidwhat I wonder if they played that song at this show too

  • @gelle00 I was fortunate enough to see them at Coachella this year, and they rockeddd out. At the end of Kick Drum Heart, when it's just the drum going...they all had their eyes closed listening to the beat of the drum and the darker haired brother had his hand over his heart pumping to the beat...it was spellbinding.

  • Wow!There have been many times throughout my life and musical journey when I've lost faith in the "upandcoming" sounds. This is not one of those times.Positively brilliant performance!

  • 694 is capacity at this theatre.. I would kill to see them like that now!

  • An abundance of talent, energy and good times...

  • I cannot breath till it ends...amazing!~

  • the ending is so awesome.

  • this is the best version of this song on the web :)

  • Norfolk?!?!?! WHERE WAS I?!?!?!

  • @lizbethgray Yeah I missed it too =(

  • totally talented!!!!!!!!!!! Gotta love it

  • This group puts a magnet on my guitar for me... and makes me want to play!

  • wow...amazing performance. thx for sharing this

  • shit how did i miss this. and why not the norva?

  • I dare anyone not to smile at the end of this...can't be done!

  • @gilsjeep2000 is true!!!hahaha

  • @gilsjeep2000

    I tried... didn't work

  • @gilsjeep2000 I smiled and cried!! Wow!

  • @gilsjeep2000

too true. Never saw your comment but was smiling at the end of the video every n*th time i've heard / watched this

    :)

  • @gilsjeep2000 I get chills watching the end

  • @gilsjeep2000 I frowned because it was over! There is also the replay button 0:00 ........

  • I dare anyone not to smile at the end of this...can't be done!

  • now this is the video to watch by this band, the crowd is quiet during the performance so you can hear the band.

  • the videos are so great, but nothing can capture the intensity of being there and clapping and jumping and screaming.

  • Dear god! I could watch this video all day long!

  • I'm still amazed at this video. You can't help smiling and getting into it especially at the end! Love the kickdrum.

  • i wish the album version of this song was like this

  • i do as well..

  • Holy Fuck. 4:50 - the end is what life is all about.

  • just saw them tonight. what a great show! these guys really know how to perform!

  • is it a lie?

  • @scja170 pretty sure he's saying, "is it a lot?"

  • @phloydrix He is saying, "Is it a lie?" He says it almost every time they perform this song.

  • what does he say after .... teach me how to use the love that people say you make?

  • he says "sing it loud?" in response to something someone yelled in the crowd.

  • My mouth waters, I get goose-bumps, and I can't stop smiling! Whenever I hear this I end up singing it in my head and even aloud for hours. It just goes to my heart... :0)

  • If people could hear...really hear...they would hear these dudes changing the entire music industry. This, from an old Dead Head/Phish Fan...

    This is perfection!!!

  • the best laundry room ever

  • well said

  • they go straight to the soul

  • insane good.

  • Seems this is as good as it gets in music A+++

  • skf89.. check tiny desk concert NPR by the Avetts... it is simply incredible, and I think crushes this version

  • Speechless...

  • 4:53-5:35 AMAZING

  • Ireland has the poges we got these guys

  • fair deal

  • They are just amazing, I can't believe I waited this long to get into them, a must have on my concert wishlist :)~

  • this is the best ive seen banjo boy look. delicious :)

  • BEST VIDEO OF THIS SONG EVER!!!!

  • Haha, I don't think the audience really knew what was being said either. One girl shouts "Yes" and another yells out "No," as far as I can tell.

  • One says it is a lie and one says it's not...that's pretty simple really, come on now!

  • But, when asked if their love was a lie, why would one girl say it was not a lie and another say it was a lie?

It seems odd that a seemingly rhetorical question could get two different answers. That is why I proposed that the audience doesn't know the question that is being asked.

  • one of my favorites

  • glad he cut his beard..great music

  • Just when you think music's dead...The best live version out there, especially at the end. Great to see someone who obviously loves what they do. Like all great musicians/singers they play for themselves and we are the lucky ones that get to enjoy it. Love the music!

  • American musical forms are brilliantly, idiosyncratically bendable, exchangable, mixable and utterly surprising. As long as there are authentic, talented singers, songwriters and musicians, there will always be brilliant music...never give up, it never dies...its just that sometimes you have to look around to find it.

  • no offense to the avetts, but you, my friend, are a turd.

  • @jwickham65 what a totally ethnocentric comment. there's nothing inherently american about any of those traits, and it's just as true for music from any human as it is of american.

  • @jwickham65 Very well said. Couldn't agree more.

  • @jwickham65

    A fucking men

  • "Is It a Lie?"

  • i thought he said "is it a lot?" in reference to the love you make

  • I think it's referring to the love that "people" say you make, kinda like asking if what the people said was a lie about the love you make. Though it really doesn't matter, this song is still Amazing in every way

  • what does he say at 1:35? great song and great video... saw them in iowa city and they were amazing!

  • first time i ever did see a head banging cellist.... brilliant!!!!!

  • for the extreme in head banging cello, check out Tornado Rider. Yo-Yo Ma meets Perry Farrell. The Avetts blow them away though - best live show out there.

  • yes

  • Most Rock 'n Roll act out there right now.

  • love it when they brake that shit down at the end!!!!

  • Yes, you are absolutely right - I love love love this video! You and I are on the same wavelength!

  • Maybe they're just growing up a bit...

  • This may be one of the best versions ive EVER heard of this... And that ending I wish would go on for 10 min.. Absoultely killer!!

  • the avetts are just fantastic, especially this song.

definitely one of the best bands to see live

  • I like this version more than the original because of the muted part around 2:32, it sets a great mood, though both are excellent.

  • The best part starts at 4:50. You're cheating yourself out of something amazing if you never see them live.

  • If you haven't seen The Avett Brothers live yet, you've already missed out on the most amazing part of them. I love that they've found success though.

Their old shows were intimate and very energetic. It's a lot harder to get that feeling in a field or seated theater, which seems to be the only places they play these days.

  • That being said, I suggest you see them live still. Their theater and outdoor shows are just as amazing, just in a different way.

  • i 100% agree.

i have seen them 11 times now, and the last two (this summer) i felt like something was missing. maybe its just me, because my father enjoyed them, but i felt like there wasn't that energy or power... something was missing

  • this is my favorite live video anywhere on youtube of these guys. the album version of this song isn't that great. There's so much more emotion and passion in this version. Plus it's in my hometown, I wish i hadn't missed this show. I ended up driving to Knoxville to see them

  • I gotta admit that I always love the live versions more than the album's. They've got more energy, they're faster, and they're more essentially Avett. Still buyin I and Love and You but I know it won't match the live quality

    Love this song btw

  • why didn't they do this for the album? Hate to say it but, the new album isnt actually that good.

  • wow, to each his own i guess. January Wedding, Ill With Want, Perfect Space, And it Spread. Its different live than studio, but thats nothing new with the Avetts. Ever seen November Blue played live as it is studio ?They actually slow that down live, its all good though, I really like it.

  • this is my favorite video of TAB. and this live version is soo much better than the album cut.

  • every avett show ive been to has been a religious experience

  • I could watch them everyday and still never be any less amazed by them! They are what great is.

  • thanks for posting, great quality vid.

  • it amazes me that the album this song is on has not even been released yet, but this video has 53,000 views. jeezzz

  • this was my first avetts show ever. i've listened to them everyday since then

  • Comment removed

  • fav song off the new album so far..

  • god i love them

  • what do you think the chords are that seth begins playing around 1:56?

i would love to learn this song!

although i could probably wait until the album releases to play around with it myself..

  • I'm no good but it looks like just a G (kind of) and a C. Try avettbrotherstabs . com/laundryroom.html

  • he just plays c, g, and g/c through the whole song you can easily figure it out yourself though

  • "what's he know?!"

  • amazing, last 40sec gave me chills

  • still haven't found a better version of this song

  • That was indeed the shit

  • indeed!

  • that was the shit

  • "Tonight I burned the lyrics, cause every chorus was your name." Man, I wish I'd written that.

  • i totally agree..ahaha. in fact i wish i wrote EVERYTHING that they have ever written

  • hearing stories of how dedicated their fan base is incredibly uplifting

  • I concur. The album version of this song was average, especially going into that climactic finish that this video had accomplished such an impact on me. The studio version actually slows down, and while it's more folky sounding, it's not the energetic Avetts that I know. But hey, at least we still have the live performances.
