People talk about other singers being better than labrie, Consider these points:

1. We've seen labrie mess up but remember his best times and they are much better than any cover,

2.Many of the cover singers have naturally higher voices, James has worked to get his voice to such high notes, we know this because his voice has a lot more body and force but isn't a dark sound.

All that said, this is a great cover and possibly the most difficult DT song to cover.

The first time I saw this I thought he was doing falsetto because it was so clean and didn't sound like James. But James puts so much power behind his high notes I don't know how he did it.

The whole thing is pretty impressive. The singer is great but this is probably the hardest song by Dream Theater. It's non-stop. Even the slow parts have a lot going on in terms of instruments.

Most of ppl speaks of vocalists but they dont have even the BASIC knowledge... theres 3 types of voices, Chest, Head and Mixed... the HIGH stuff of labrie is the MIXED voice, where he can acheive HIGH notes without using HEAD VOICE... thast the DEAL with LaBrie... that is one of the most incredible stuffs that noone can do easily...

This guy used HEAD VOICE EVEN IN CHEST VOICE parts ! thats just AWFULL ! its just not acceptable...

Um, judging from the reverb of the venue, how loud he gets, & the timbre of his voice, he isn't falsetto all the time and is pulling off James's awesome notes most of the time.

2:48, yeah he does use falsetto, but that's one of James's really difficult sections from the Images era. I mean, you said yourself that no one can easily pull off LaBrie's vocals. Why complain? He was never off key and sounded great.

Also, if it sounds good to everyone else, regardless of technique, whats the problem?

Because a COVER means that you are making in the SAME WAY, or else youre just playing a band song in YOUR WAY...

Ex: You Make Me Feel Brand New (Simply Red), just hear the original from the Stylistics and hear from Simple Red... its not a COVER its a different version...

If you are COVERING.. at least try to make in the SAME WAY.. if you CANT HANDLE IT, sing in lower notes just like LaBrie does when he is very tired or with his voice in bad shape

It's pretty damn accurate to everyone but you, even to the musicians and general public. Also, I don't think you listened, he is performing it very accurately technique-wise except of that single part that was VERY difficult. James's notes don't sound far too off from a falsetto in that section of the song anyway. He IS pulling off ridiculous notes, and I congratulate him for it.

It's no where near as bad as overdrive distortion on an unplugged concert, but rather using a pick to play a song than your fingers. It doesn't sound too different, and the general crowd and hell, even a bunch of decent musicians won't notice.

I do understand singing and I can hear that he is not always in falsetto like you claim.

Besides, how the HELL could you ever call this a "not good" cover? Have you ever tried a Dream Theater song on drums, guitar, bass, or keyboards? Yeah.

Well, i have had quite some vocal traning with some high-quality tenors, thus i know a bit more than the basics. Even if what you say IS true, i think it is a decent vocal covers. Most covers i see on youtube are only instrumental. Few have the balls to cover LaBrie's work. Fewer have the balls to cover LaBrie's pre- vocal chord ruptre era. It is a decent cover. However, this guy Jean Philippe Major from Crimson Sunset is the best one i've heard so far.
