I can remember sitting on the Osborn's screened in porch listening to the entire album AJA over and over again. Dang, those were the days!! I still know every word to every song on that album. Thanks for posting!!!!!!!
great song and the back up singers are fantastic the only thing that needs tweaking is your ears brother, this guys are the best, One of a kind, nowhere will yoiu find this kind of classic sound,
One of my favorite from the Aja album. This music never gets old because they always add some new phrasing or solo. True musicians. I really hate so much of the dumbed down crap that is called music today. You don't have to be talented to be popular.
ok he may not be a young stud but he has some sexy as lips.. and a very sexual appealing vibe to him watching him sing and the sound of his voice smooth as glass.. yeah
Just got home from their show in Louisville, thought i'd check out a couple of songs they didn't play. This is my fave. Anyway, just noticed the glasses change. I'm buzzin'. If anyone cares, I met Ted Nugent's band in line. In town to play the fair. Continue......
Amazing - love Jon Herrington's guitar work and Keith Carlock's drumming. I see Keith play with Tom Hemby here in Nashville from time to time. Tom, besides being a studio legend, of course plays with the incredible 12 Against Nature steely dan tribute band. GREAT STUFF! Nice rhodes solo too - reminds of great Brazilian music I love.
dissapointed they didn't play this in Tulsa, but you are correct Donald is one of the coolest guys around and his voice is amazing. No studio band here!!!!!!!!!
Never saw Fagan live. I couldn't take my eyes off him, and I'm straight. His voice matches his looks...unusual, quirky, and uniquely beautiful. He actually walks the earth. Wow!
@avengerspeel It's Ok to man crush but really! Donald Fagen? I could understand man crushing on Bob Weir or John Mayer but Donald Fagen. No accounting for taste
@vpaczkowski I'm 100% straight. I just want to meet him. Nothing heavy. Just dinner, a bottle of wine, a song, light cuddling in the moonlight and my best foot massage. Nothing gay.
Let me be objective here: Don Fagen is a totally cool, jazzy dude who plays/sings/writes great, incredible music. And he also kinda looks like a Muppet. A really cool Muppet. It's just when he opens his mouth so wide, I feel like there's a hand on the inside controlling it. Despite that, however, he still remains one of the coolest dudes alive.
@DelRockford He and Walt have a box at the Fox right next to S&W's, as it turns out, when I was at the Fox on the 16th I learned two things, 1. only cool people can see the boxes, and 2. they simultaneously where play on the stage and watching from the box.
sheer class,so wicked with the sisters n all doin their out of sync jigs, brill.so tight live, the sign of great talent and rather large egos with fagen u have to say.its kind of what makes it....so out rageous.

@Toddskins1 Hold on, you REALLY think that Gaucho and Nightfly sucked?? Haha! You're obviously a cloth-eared idiot. There's not one bad track on either album. Furthermore, I think its worth mentioning that Becker's "11 Tracks of Whack" is pretty cool
This is not available commercially. It moves through the Steely Dan community of fans though. So, if you get dedicated to the cause, you will find it.
these cats rule.im 50 ,been listening a long time.living legends.i have never seen them in concert but would love to before i die.its on my bucket list!
Steely Dan does RULE!!! I used to hear some real funky groovy rock-jazz songs on the pop radio stations when I was like 7 or 8 years old and never really new that it was all the band "Steely Dan". That voice and that groove really caught me as a young kid! But for some reason I didnt know it was the same group(all these groovy songs I was hearing). One day I had recorded songs on tape my Dad heard some and told me who it was. Since then I have been a Dan freak.
The man who won a Grammy engineering the studio track of this tune, Roger Nichols (who won a total of 6 Grammys with Steely Dan) has been battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer and after many months in the hospital is destitute. If you can, please help Roger and his family by going to his website rogernichols dot c o m and giving generously! Thanks.
Fagen is one weird lookin' dude. Then again, his music is equally odd. These guys are just too good for their own selves... It's all too cool to see real musicians at work, not a bunch of 'posturing' Ken/Barbie's simply strutting their stuff - which ain't much... Steely Dan rules !!!
Reminds me of being 16 in the summer of '97 roofing my grandpa's house. I brought my cd player boombox and blasted Aja on repeat, my most listenable album.
I hate to resort to categorizing the Dan, but would you consider them Jazz rocker specialists and much more. That genre jazz rock is the only way I can explain this kind of music to non-adherents of great, well-crafted music. Today's equivalent would be math rock or math core like minus the bear. so all in all yeah this post is a question to the fellow fandom.
I love when people call Donald Fagen "Steely Dan" Just like that Lynard Skynard guy. He was great. Oh yeah, don't forget about Pink Floyd. That guy was awesome. ( I so wish there was a sarcasm font.)
Never achieved the commercial success they deserved? Are you kidding? Do you know how many gold albums they have had over the span of 30+ years? They lack the draw of a big concert production true, but they have been selling lots of albums to a lot of acclaim for a lot of years.
@kuorva Plus, they took 20 years off when they were pretty much at the height of their popularity. They did nada for 1980-2000, then returned with "Two Against Nature" in 2000.
Cornelius Bumpus's tenor sax solo is so poetic here, so packed with tasty morsels of melody, it makes me cry. He is my favorite soloist with Steely Dan because he always says more with fewer notes. Absolutely love his stuff. Thanks to Fagan and Becker for recognizing his talent.
When this song was out, I was living in Lexington, Ky. They had an Fm station that played alot of stuff that was popular with the college crowd and Steely Dan was often on the radio. Now I live in an area that just plays pre-programmed music.
I'm so thankful for Youtube and these videos! I just wish I could see them live someday.

Steely Dan was a commercial success- considering the jazz overtones of their music (not rock mainstream) they did very well- they were not the Stones or others in terms of album sales- BUT there is no doubt they were as talented as any American band of the seventies....
Along with Jagger/Richards, McCartney/Lennon, John/Taupin one of the greatest partnerships of all time. I grew up with SD but sadly never saw them live. Maybe one day....
they are not "album rock", they are truly great studio artists, always seeking the perfection in their music, and i think one of the greatest American bands to ever exist
Bumpus is the best!

Don't give up hope. I finally saw them last year after 30 years of wanting to. It was so worth the wait, they are unbelievable live.

they are not "album rock", they are truly great studio artists, always seeking the perfection in their music, and i think one of the greatest American bands to ever exist
