  • excellent, I've always wondered how people keep beads from just falling off, that looks so simple, but I never would have thought to do it that way.

  • Thankyou for making this video:) her hair looks beautiful!

  • Yall are so stupid. What the hell do you want the girl to say? Nappy? Brillo pad? Our hair is what it is; KINKY and CURLY and there is nothing wrong with her saying so. She didnt mean that her hair wasnt pretty. And I applaud her for trying to care for this hair texture. I wish more would do the same.

  • Great vid! And for those of you who have a problem with this white woman adopting a black child, ALL children deserve to be loved. I am just happy this this little girl is living in a happy home with a mom who loves her. She doesn't have to be tied to the foster system living from pillar to post.

  • aww thats so cute you learned to care for her hair texture and braid it too!

  • Beautiful

  • would this look wierd on a white girl? im like half white half puertiorican and i wanted to do this to the bottom half of my hair.

  • thanx alot

  • I am happy you took the time to learn how to do her hair, but as an African American this is a shame for us to have whites adopting and taking care of our children. Nothing against you because the love your are willing to give these children is a blessing. I have three of my own and would not mind adopting my own but of course the system makes that nearly impossible. I guess i'm in the wrong tax bracket.

  • @lumumba31 I truly feel sorry for you. this attitude you posses fuels hate and perpetuates racism. did it ever occur to you that maybe she just wanted a child and doesnt see the color of her skin?as the soon to be mother of a bi-racial child and as a woman in general im sure i speak for many others, Black, White, Asian,Latin, whomever...

  • @lumumba31 that the world would be a better place without mind sets like yours, of course she is her daughter and just because you see color and not the blood that runs beneath our skin doesn't give you the right to devalue her as a mother. If we just loved each other for who we are and not the many colors of our skin, attitudes like yours would slowly diminish and we would be free of racism altogether.

  • I just have to say, this is a great video. I am african american and I have african american children but have never used beads and wanted to so thanks for the demo. I love that you are taking the time to properly care for her natural hair so carefully and beautifully. As you know it can be a challenge to care for and I just commend you on your great work and care. Be blessed

  • Thank You so much for your help. I wanted to make sure I was beading correctly and I realized after watching this video that I was. You made it look so simple too, which is what I really liked about this video. Thank You for showing me how to properly rubberband the end of the braid and stretch it back up. That was the only step I was missing. Great Video!!

  • i have a baby from haiti and she has very coarse dry hair and i needed advice on what to use on her hair you do a very good job on their hair plz help me

  • Wonderrrrfullll :) very simple and easy. Thanks!

  • Thank you so much for this video. We adopted our (biracial) daughter recently and I'm having quite the learning curve in figuring out how to do some of the protective hair styles like beads and box braids. This was very helpful and encouraging.

  • One of the best mum's ever. I love, love, love your vids for your daughters. No to mention I'm loving the style. Have you done something similar on your daughter with the locs?

  • Thank you, this was very helpfull.

  • how did you learn how to do that? girl you talented i'm black and I cant even braid straight back, so you know i can't do criss cross braids. keep it up i see alot of of other nationaly adopting black children and they hair be a mess. you know this child is bless you took time to learn how to do her hair .

  • I am seeing more white mom's with adoptive black children caring wonderfully for their natural hair. Good job for being so patient and loving with your beautiful daughter's hair care.

  • great job katelyn.but where did u buy the snaps? cause i live in germany and cant find them here.

  • @itohan2008 - my friend and blog partner has a website called snapaholics. That is where I get tons of my hair accessories!

  • I've never seen that hair braid design...I LOVE IT!!! & sadly I've never had braids in my own here & at 22, I plan on doing them myself lol. Ur video really helped, Thanx:D

  • did u adopt her

  • thanks...

  • I love seeing these videos! I have a little girl that is mixed and I had self taught all I know and today was the first time looking at any of these videos. My daughter loves the beads in her hair especially when its box braided. the thing is she loves to also loose the beads, she'll pull the rubber bands and they'll snap so fast... Its hard to find really good rubber bands, do you have any suggestions

  • beautiful n worderful spectacular i like it so much thnks katelynlyn

  • This is great thank you.

  • Love it!!

  • Wow, this was my big question!! Thanks for the help!!!

  • I am so happy I have found your channel!!1 I have a 4 year old that is starting school on Monday and was looking for some hairstyle ideas, after finding you channel I cant make up my mind which one to start first. Thank you so much for your time and patience you are great at what you do!!! And for those people leaving negative comments on your page they probabley don't have anything else better to do;p.....Stay Blessed!!!

  • her hair is so pretty !

  • I really think that your vids are so helpful.

  • i used rubber bands but when my daughter came back from school every single bead had come out i used the bands that came in the packet with beads i guess i gotta used the black bands??/

  • You can get the hair bead slyder from thehairbeadslyder website to apply beads to the end of the braid or twist.

  • Katelynylyn I love your tutorials!! I have a mixed child and had no idea how to do her hair and am very happy to have found your videos. Great job!! Keep up the good work.

  • i remember them good ol' days when i would sit on my friends porch and braid her sisters hair (:

  • I’m biracial, (black and Hispanic) ,when I was younger I had really long hair but it was really kinky and I hated doing my hair. My mother who is black decided to put a relaxer in my hair and it damaged my hair really bad. Whatever hair I had left I had to cut it off and start growing my hair back naturally

  • I love the style. My daughter has the same texture hair and i refuse to put a relaxer in her hair. Many people who do have kids of African American decent adopted or not tend to just give up and put these harsh chemicals in their children hair. I know from experience .

  • Thats pretty cool, there is another tool to apply beads to the hair, the site is thehairbeadslyder, thats also the name of the tool. Good Luck with trying new things, he tool is durable and inexpensive too!

  • thx soooooooooooo muchhhhhhhhhhhh

  • @darnett1998 - nope not at all :)

  • Beautifully done.

  • Yep u help me like hell! appreciate that

  • Go Head Katelynlyn u r the truth lol Ive learned so much from you :)

  • thanks you SOOO much for this vid. I used foil the first time and was pulling beads out of my bed for weeks because of it!

  • Hello, what do you use to make her hair grow? My daughter's hair is short.

  • @fafabk - I couldn't say that I use anything in particular to make it grow. I think her hair growth is due to the natural products we use and our whole hair routine. I have videos about our hair routine and our products - check them out :)

  • @fafabk just sayin just keepin the hair in braids should help it grow thats how my hair iz and a few other people i kno's hair as well. Do u keep her hair braided?

  • I know this video is a bit old now, but do you know where I can purchase the beader online now? What about the darling square beads? The options for these products locally for me is almost non-existant :) Thanks tons

  • Hi I love all of your videos i recentley sub. I have been braiding my husband and my childrens hair for years self taught from the rows and plats to the beads and twists! But I've never attempted any designs so its so nice to have someone be able to show me right in the comfort of my own home! I attempted the criss cross with my daughter and they look beautiful! So I was insp. to do my own design on hubby based on TIPS from heart design and im so proud.Best instruction of ANY tube video thanks

  • You do a beautiful job on your daughters hair and it is commendable that you've learned so much about African American hair.

  • I remember when my mom used to put them on one by one and end it with ALUMINUM FOIL!! everybody did that...nice to see updated options! LOL

  • @MeTooU2 Mines too, girl lol!! AHHH memories!!

  • Thanks for all your videos - they're helping me a great deal with my niece's hair. I nearly slapped myself when you mentioned the rubber band thing, it seems so obvious now that you pointed it out. Thanks again!

  • Can you show me a close-up video on how to put beads on the end, cause it's hard to see from my angle.

  • Omigod u are fantastic! im inspired and im black...lolz! i have a 4 yr old daughter and im trying to learn how to braid her hair in designs....

  • Great braiding, and beautiful beading - and wonderfully patient little girl - the only criticism I have is where you say "their hair is so kinky and...". As the white mom of a beautiful AA daughter I just ask: who is they?

  • I am referring to my two daughters when I say "they". I originally made these videos for people who knew me. So I was talking about my family. I realize now, that it sounds a bit strange.

  • Comment removed

  • That makes total sense. It just caught me off guard without the actual context... Thanks so much for the great video.

  • wow. ur the first white person i ever saw tht braids hair. am not beein a racist. am jus saying:P

  • Great videos I just wonder where can I get the beader and the beads. THanks

  • from any good hairshop with accessories.

  • Thanks I did find them at a beauty shop.

  • Thank you so much! You are a great person for sharing your knowledge with people who don't know. I'm so sorry you have to deal with negative, pessimistic people. Oh and before anyone breaks bad, I am a big, strong, kinky haired, and loving black woman as I have also adopted two kids. Thanks again for sharing and much love and respect to you and your family.

  • nice job

  • Thank you so much! I will try tomorrow:) You are great:D

  • oiies como haces esas trensas se ven bien chido

  • Thanks alot Big help :)

  • I have a 19 month old who we adopted at 4 days. I have been sectioning her hair into fours and putting in little soft ponies. Your videos are exactly what I have been looking for so I can do something else with my daughters hair. Because of you and your videos, I made my first attempt this morning at box braids and finishing with beads. Thank you so much for sharing with us!

  • Always wondered how you do that! Thanks. Cornrowing and braiding is a true art form xxxx

  • Amazing job! I'm a black mom & have been at a loss of how to do my kids' hair!

  • Wow, you do an awesome job with your daughters hair. You have some mad SKILLS!!!!

  • Very nice work

  • My daughter is mixed race and I have just started to learn to cornrow her hair. Your videos are really good and have helped me alot. Thanks.

  • Hi great tutorials. Can I ask how long would you be able to keep this in? Julie.

  • I usually keep a style in for around 4 weeks - give or take a week

  • Oh thanks for that.

  • Where can I find the beader at??? I want and need one today!!! : 0)

  • omgosh thank u so much for this video.i never knew how to bead and i immediatly did it on my 2 daughters braids after watching this.now im teaching them and letting them watch this.

  • so cute~~

  • I admire your hair styles and the time you took to learn about your daughters hair. You are doing an amazing job and i can see that her hair is paying off because of your effort in taking good care of it. Your daughter's hair is very healthy and have great length.

  • I dont get all of the racist comments WTF? It doesnt matter what color you are, cornrows are gorgeous, on any color of skin or hair. I am a half breed myself, my daughter who is (no offense) not adopted looks like a caucasian with a really good tan. Her hair is blonde, a complete afro and is so long, it hits her bottom. So does she get the right to have her hair in braids, or is she not dark enough??

  • Being of mixed race myself, I get the jist of what your saying but at the same time I dont agree, at all. Cornrows DONT generally look good on everybody, just like any hairstyle, and I personally think they do look somewhat odd on a very fair skinned person with blonde hair. I also feel like bleach blonde hair looks pretty odd on dark skinned black women.

  • my daughters afro is not bleached blonde, its naturally blonde, I guess to each his own, if cornrows are done properly , I think they look gorgeous on any person. People should do what they want to do and not worry about what others think.

  • I wasn't saying her hair was bleached blonde. I was saying that blonde hair + cornrows generally looks weird, no diffrent than the way bleach blonde hair on dark skinned women looks weird. Somethings are just not flattering on certain people. It's just a hair style....

  • Aaaaash

Que lástima que solo a los de color se les ve bien esos peinados

    Son tan geniales xD

  • Does anyone know where I can find one of those bead threaders? I can't find them anywhere?!?!?! Ahhhhhhhh

  • girl they at the beautysupply stores ,sometimes they come with the beads jus ask one of them workers if you can't find.

  • My cousin was adopted by white parents and I'll have you know that they will NOT go to the "hood" to get their hair utensils. I kid you not. They'll order them online. Combs, beads (yes the same types of beads you can get at the Korean beauty supply store for .99!), and all. I've never in my life seen people order combs that are so easily accessible and cheap off the internet just to avoid going to the urban areas to get them. But they do it...and theyre in groups that do it too.

  • i love all your videos there are alot of stupid people its great that u took the time to learn how to do there hair most white ladys dont no how to style there mixed or adopted babies hair and now u can teach them just make sure u love them there hair is great and by the time there teens thell have long natural hair, keep up the good work and smile at the haters

  • what do u mean beacuse there hair is soo curly...?

  • I am not sure what you are asking, but since my daughters hair is very tightly curled (not straight, not medium curly) I am able to just twist the end of a braid around my finger and then it will stay that way. Try to do that on straight or medium curly hair and the braid will just slide out.

  • @Katelynylyn she is not your daughter, she is my daughter you are just borrowing her, for what reason you want a black child is suspicious to me. But in the light of good spirit if you ever get tired of our children send them home. You can get my email anytime to take me up on the offer.

  • @lumumba31 I can't believe you even had the nerve to say something so cruel. Keep all that HATE shit to yourself!

  • @lumumba31 i guess you see 'your' children as just property, instead of human beings. great job for making yourself sound like a jerk.

  • Thanks so much. I adopted a girl and she is almost 1 now. What do you recommend for her hair at this point? I want to keep it healthy so it doesn't break off. It's not very long yet, but it needs something right now so she doesn't pull at it. What did you do when your girls were that age?

  • I did not have my daughters as babies, but when we adopted them they did have pretty short hair. With my youngest I started by just putting little puffs all over her head. When her hair got longer I started braiding and twisting the little puffs. I was doing cornrows as soon as their hair was long enough, and I was capable. It is also good to have her wear some kind of sleep cap or at least a silk pillowcase to keep it from becoming dry and damaged. Regardless of how it is styled.

  • This video is what got me addicted to youtube and what taught me how to braid. Your tutorials are wonderful. Cant wait for more

  • man i use to rock this when i was little lol i hated the beads ;; they were so annoying but loveeeed getting my hair braided lol =]

  • is that your daughter?

  • Yes, a white woman has a black daughter.

  • i dnt think she was tryna be funny by asking that...calm it

  • Ok wait a min...I have been doing braids and beads for over 30 years...on my head and on my girls...and rubber banding was the only option, then we got smart and put extention hair 1 inch past the natural hair to avoid the rubber band damage...and now someone gets smart and comes out with a damage free product for beads! cool! hahah where can i find these 'snaps' and do they come in shapes....i gotta grandaughter i can try them on. that was way cool.

  • lol i hate the beader thing its hard 4 me lmao i no kinda slow right i kust stick the beads on the regular way

  • thank you it's a great tutorial, your braids are beautiful . : )

  • omg those braids are so BEAUTIFUL! very artistic....and your little girl is so adorable!!!!

  • Thank you girl! I'm going to try that right now on my angels and take pictures! You taught me (a black mom) something I was never taught by my Mom or Grandma or Auntie so I appreciate it no matter what race you are. Thank you for sharing your talent/skills!

  • wow!!! I never knew how to do that..Thank you!! I am going to try it tommorrow!!

  • Um to MsCaramelhoney79 what the hell does it matter wether the woman is black or white and hello beads, braids, conrows and dreads are a Black style if you want to get technical. Originated in Africa and Black Culutre..

  • sometimes u see ppl got like shells at the ends of their cornrows how do u put that on?

  • you mean locs? where i am from you see cowry shells added to locks, they just slide them in...without ever worry about taking them out again. the grooves the shell hold them in place and kinda fights the hair (snags and tears it) when you try to take them out so folks around here only use them on locs...that they are never taking out anyway. if there is a safe way to put them on non-locked hair....i wanna know too!

  • Where'd you get that HUGE beader from?

  • you can get them from the beauty supply for like a dollar. sometimes the come in a pack with beads.

  • wow...I've always wondered how they did that...thanks

  • Thanks for showing how to use the beader...I've been wasting a lot of time loading the beads one by one! ;o)

  • I'm definitely about 2 use this.

  • I'm sorry to say but I have to give her her props because their are no black ladies up here show you how to do this. When you ask me they say I don't know. So I'm clad some did this.

  • I am sorry if you found this offensive. I say "their" in reference to my 2 daughters whose hair is very different from my own. That is not a bad thing in any way and I don't think I am saying it in a way that implies I don't like something about my girls hair. In fact I love my girls hair! I made these videos specifically for other adoptive mothers who were wanting to learn how to do their daughters hair. Nothing racist about it.

  • jeez..love it when ppl read into stuff where there's nothing to read into.

  • I dont think you said anthing wrong ... Im sure you love your girls and their hair... Im a black girl and I think its silly for anyone to get offended... Your videos help black mothers and white mothers alike!!! Great job!

  • I just braided my little girls' hair and could not think of a way to keep the beads on, so I did what my mom use to do when i was little and put aluminum foil on the ends (lol). Glad I saw this vid cause tomorrow I will redo them and use the rubberbands. Thanks!!!

  • ;o) My mom used to use foil on the ends of my hair...reading that brought back memories!

  • i have bin searching on how to end braid for ages :) thanks so much

  • I used to put alot of hair oil on the ends b4 I band to the beads to protect the hair and weaken the band so it is easy to remove later.

  • Lovin' your videos, you make the criss cross thing look so easy and its beautiful! I have a 1 year old at home and she doesn't have enough hair to braid yet, but I will definitely try this on her and my hair! Thanks for sharing!

  • If u dont have a beader use a rubberband the same way.

  • once again lol, THANK YOU!!! i am definitely about 2 use this

  • Her hair is pretty long. What if you tried letting the beads hang down a bit long?

  • Thank you thank you thank you!

  • Wow that's really great!!

  • Okay so when I was a little girl we didn't have a "beader" so we just used foil wrap and slid the beads on that way, but it's cool they got something easier and faster.

  • Lol I remember those days...

  • I like that dog or cat that jumped off the couch..lol XD

  • I wore beads all the time growing up and I was so excited when I could finally put them in my daughter's hair. I couldn't remember how to add the rubberband at the ends after putting the beads on. I did a Google search for "beads and rubberbands" praying that someone would refresh my memory. Thank you so much! Your braids look great!

  • how is that pink thing called where ya put the beads on?

  • I heard her call it a "beader" but I've done the same thing when stinging beads on yarn for knitting. You can use dental floss threader.

  • Thank you for the rubber band trick. I am going to use it right now.

  • I`m so impressed with your work, and for the fact that you are a white doing a black hair. Just wondering how can i get the beads and the bidder and what Gel is that you are using. I am in Japan and i have not found any of those things here.

  • Beautiful! My daughter will be getting this style for sure. Thank you for taking the time to show how you create your beautiful styles. Keep them coming.

  • You are wonderful. We just adopted a 6 year old and I wish I knew someone like you to help me in person. I've gone to 1 braider and she was not good. You are wonderful, thank you.

  • Your very welcome! Congratulations on your new family member :)

  • katelynylyn..you are fantastic...even your voice is encouraging for new braiders. Can you tell me which of your videos has the christmas braid hairstyle? I saw it the first time I watched your videos, but I don't remember which one it is. Thank you!
