one day when this kind of tension is alleviated betwen the races is when true racism will be abolished. as a white person, i would never use the n word even jokingly because i know that it would be misconstrued as racism. i only hope that in the future white people and black people and people of all races will be able to be friendly with each other and communicate with each other without worrying about offending each other accidentally.

I wish this man could go to every news organization and give the same speech. I'm black and he used it properly that little punk was probably surprised to hear it used back at him. @shoju0099 The way I see it, neither term is racist (and no, I am not racist myself). The word with the "er" ending means you are calling that person ignorant.
So if you call some-one a nigger, and they say that you are racist, it only proves the point that there are ignorant - and therefore - a nigger.

The teacher didn't go Michael Richards on the kid. The only reason this happened was from a reaction to the kids attitude and how he was talking to the teacher.
