Actually it's not a Galaxie. It's a Fairlane, the cheaper model in the big Ford line for 1961...It's got an FE series big block (probably a 390), Fordomatic transmission, power steering, manual brakes, radio delete. Probably that way a cop car would have been ordered back in '61...
what a piece of shit, that was the cheapest galaxy you could buy in 1961 no options at all no power steering or brakes, my parents have a 64 xl 500 now thats a sick galaxy
I remember seeing this car down at myers lake one summer night back in 61.i think barney and thelma lou were in the back seat having a little fun.i was just a young kid back then. cool what memories.
Pretty nice car! It reminds me the Ford Falcons of the 60's in details like the mirror, the door opening levers. What a pitty it doesn't work, but as long as the body remains in good shape it is not impossible to fix or replace, Iguess.
The vinyl on the back seat is in horrible condition due to Otis barfing all over it when Barney had to haul him off to jail every day for public intoxication ... LOL.
I think it's a 292 with a Fordomatic. That's not an FE block-it's a Y-Block& I don't think that Ford did the 312 in 61. I think, that the only Y-blck available then was the 292 with a 2-barrell, although I'm willing to be proved wrong if anyone knows better. Looks like the body is pretty solid & straight & wouldn't be too difficult to restore--the interior could be another story.

Christ we have a 1960 Ford Galaxy in the philippines my dad bought it in 1967 we still have the car up to now but its in the repair shop for body works and it has been their since 2005 hahahahahahaha its been decades ..... lol
Damn that's pretty well worn out, funny about the hood release, my grandfather's 1957 Beetle has a traditional hood release inside the vehicle, I wish there wasn't snow all over the place, I want to drive it!!
all metal dash....now that would last a long time, but ina crash, i think id rather have my face smashing agaisnt a vynal dash (or airbag lol) then an all metal dash XD
Now... THAT'S A CAR! Does it got a 352? So sad to see it sitting around, someone needs to get it running. My grandpa had a 65 burgundy exterior/interior one.
The early sixties was awesome for car design. Dropping the pointy parts and still keeping the chrome, but not quite the mid sixties design. They were more conservative in styling but still had liberal amounts of chrome.
this car is such a classic i can't even call it a POS. but i thought the '86 Silverado was a pretty far fetch from your Lexus, look at this thing. for being a '61 it doesn't have a whole lot of rust.....i wonder when it was restored.
so who or was andy griffith?

Yeah, in 1961 it was rare that anyone would think of popping your hood to jack your battery or crosswire your engine.

That is such a cool car. That would be a good car for someone to restore. Was it owned by somebody or some company or just an abandoned car?
