  • Ace does have a nice vibrado and tone - he improved a lot during the 80's and 90's.

  • I made up an exercise where I just kept bending, then doing as many vibrados as I could until the string slipped from my finger. Just keep doing and doing it - it works.

Good vibrado is the key to good blues, which is the key to good rock tone!

  • "I just kinda like do it..." lol

  • Ace had emotion and balls. He didn't have the clean licks of Rhoads or VanHalen. But he had raw energy and emotion that moved you. He inspired so many guitarist it's not funny. So don't let yourself be confused by how technical he was or wasn't. Many other players are cleaner, but some over do it. A thousand notes a second is impressive for about 2 seconds. Vinnie comes to mind, great player, but just couldn't understand music is about emotion not simply speed and clarity.

  • Nobody in my opinion does vibrato better than the late great Paul Kossof, check out or YouTube Free's 'Walk in my Shadow' - any live version - to see just what I mean.

  • @happyuk06

Uli Roth is the king of vibrato. Steve Morse and Clapton are great too.

  • His vibrato really suck, lets be honest.

  • @xdimebag666x yeah didn't really enjoy it lol

  • worst lead player in rock history next to cc deville. really not very good. never was never will be. made a living on flash instead of substance. one good thing is that he is a better guitar player than gene simmons is a bass player. Its sort of like comparing hitler to musilini as the worst dictator.... oh yeah, there is not such thing as wang bar, its a whammy bar....

  • @krakkken666 your opinion isn't valid, it's all a matter of opinion

  • worst lead player in rock history next to cc deville. really not very good. never was never will be. made a living on flash instead of substance. one good thing is that he is a better guitar player than gene simmons is a bass player. Its sort of like comparing hitler to musilini as the worst dictator....

  • this is called fuckin nuts distorion.

  • The vibrato is definitely part of Aces' signature sound.A lot of his solos on the early Kiss albums employ vibratos at different speeds. It should be pointed out that when you apply vibrato with your' finger(as opposed to with a whammy bar)the note will always go sharp unless you actually bend up to next note or bend up and then strike the note,in which case it will go flat and sharp.A lot of players sharp the note too much. That is where skill factors in.

  • Should be called duh any one who knows basic guitar knows how to fo this .wnd his guitar sounds shit one watt amp

  • fag

  • Ace has great vibrato because his hands shake from alcohol. He didn't even play on much of the 70's music from KISS.

  • I am absolutely amazed that the great Ace Frehley is a thumb-over-the-front-of-the-fingerboard guy. One would expect his technique to be . . . . well he must be self-taught, but for you beginners, try to keep your left thumb at the center of the back of the neck. It's a pain in the ass early on, but later it will come in handy for more complicated hammer-ons, and your wrists won't get hurt. Also, when you progress to the point of "shredder" with incorrect technique, it's impossible to unlearn.

  • Aweful player. Sounds like shit

  • i want a new guitar!

  • i ve always thought that he remind me of robert de niro!

  • Some of the comments on string gauge. 10 is the norm for electric. Practice on an acoustic or buy a cheap guitar and put 11's on it with a fairly high action. Then when you go to your main guitar. It'll be like butter.

  • What a shit player. So slack and big headed. I can play better than that when I'm asleep. He's been a lucky man to earn from playing like that.

  • @niptodstan A lot more people are fans of him than you or me, don't hate... CONGRATULATE!!

  • @niptodstan wow u r a fucking pompous loser

  • @niptodstan Sure you can. Just out of curiosity, I checked your page ... and just as I expected, no uploads of you playing guitar.

  • Gosh..... i don't even have Violet nail polish,and i'm a woman!!

  • Ahmm... I'm just a noob at guitar and it's hard for me to bend a string with my index finger in a downward motion, I'm used to doing it upwards. Is that wrong? How do I do it downwards?

    Thanks in advance

  • @avegailtadiarca I'm no expert,but i do have brothers and cousins who play,and

the low E,A,and D strings they bend downward(towards the floor) and the G,B, and

high E, they bend upward (towards the sky). Hope this helps.Good luck with that

    Guitar!!

  • @AnnaAnnaYes That's what I do, XD. I'm on acoustic though. I actually haven't played electric guitar that much, cause I don't have yet.

  • @avegailtadiarca Don't change your string gauge, heavier strings will build up the strength

in your fingers. That is why guitarists like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani can bend so many steps

    high.

  • @AnnaAnnaYes Sorry I meant I'm gonna change my string gauge to a lighter one. I'm using light string gauge, and I'm thinking of switching to extra light.

  • @avegailtadiarca Well,you should'nt, because if you're just starting,the heavier gauge

will build up your hands. And when you switch to a lighter gauge later, your speed and

precision will be astounding. It worked for Randy Rhoads.

  • I'm an ace fan , I can't say he's my number 1 like buckethead but deffinately on my main menu.

it was good to watch this video of his on vibrato , he did cover lots of information , I bet many would have liked to have seen it more close up.

  • @iIntend2Offend Buddy, i can't vibrato yet, its just a lesson for people who don't know how ot vibrato, Ace Frehley is a guitar great, end of story

  • Why is he wearing violet nail polish?...

  • Diggin' the guitar but WTF is up w/the lilac flavored fingernails. I mean come on. No nail polish on an old alcoholic guitar god.

  • he's sloshed

  • ace your lessons are shit...your bending is out of tune, your vibratos are childish and your guitar sounds like shit.....i think you need another lesson from tommy thayer

  • @mammo8369 .... Obvious troll.

  • @mammo8369 I think you need to sober up

  • @stringbenderE2E ace dork...pointing at you ^^^^^

  • I love Ace a much a hate the Paul "Dicksucking" Stanley

  • @Smockeyable Then you must love Paul Stanley

  • I love that guitar!!!!!

  • that guitar is really awsome

  • Ace = The reason I started playing.

Loved the Hotter Than Hell, Dressed To Kill & Destroyer era.

  • @SpaceAceTX Amazing Era, well, the KISS from when Ace and Peter were in the band in the 70's thats the KISS that just ROCKS!!! GO ACE!!!

  • Ace has always had a fantastic vibrato, but Angus' vibrato is outrageous. Give the solo to Back in Black a really good listen and his vibrato is unreal.

  • @ricotinez it's not an "outrageous" vibrato, it is just his own vibrato style. his vibrato ,as he says, is a "nervous vibrato". and I totally agree

  • @rafauleciaelcarpio I don't mean that in a bad way. I meant "outrageous" as in "incredible." His vibrato makes me want to play guitar. It's fantastic.

  • @ricotinez hahaha hell yeah!

  • I think I used to have a really fast vibrato when I was first playing guitar and probably even halfway into my 8 years of playing until I saw that Shred Durst video and how he mentioned to slow down the vibrato. Ever since then, I've played a much wider vibrato and I can't even make myself play it any other way. Fast vibrato kinda sounds shitty to me anyway.

  • When I first heard the solo on Strutter, I remember being BLOWN AWAY at the way he made those few notes bend & sing the way he did. It was so impressive

  • Vibrato like this is such a huge part of my style of playing, and I've got Ace to thank for that! :)

  • I like Ace's solo style his solo's were like little songs in themselves and he was a big part of Kiss's sound, however i didnt care for his live solo's with to many effects going off at once. He made up for it with the smoking pick-up. He stayed stuck in his style in the 80's and didnt(couldnt?) shred which i do respect.

  • @damienbaits The effects started to come into play, because he would keep going forever. His old tech said they started to ad the effects from the mixing board because it would get his attention & he'd look up & they'd let him know to end it. It later developed into part of the show.

  • @RokDAWG1

I didnt know that thank you...he always seemed to be telling the sound board guys to turn me up with his hand signaling up. I saw Ace on that metal show last night and that nerd billy sheehan was also on and got all the attention, who cares about mr big? I wanted more focus on Ace.

  • does he say wang bar?

  • interesting i always thought you pro-nounce his last name like Free-lee but spelled like frehley, but he says it like frail-lee...

  • Ace's playing ability just keeps getting faster, his thought process just keeps getting sloowerr......Cold Gin. Love you guys!

  • Slash got a vibrato that no one can copy.

  • sounds like carl from ATHF

  • purple nails Ace???? Way to rock!!!!

  • every time he does a vibrato in this video i think he's doin' the "Deuce" solo.

  • Holy Shit Ace is quick

  • Shit playing, but i still like kiss

  • I am not certain who the quote was from, but it was in the book KISSTORY where someone was quoted as saying of the four original members of KISS, Ace was the best musician. I believe it may've been Bill Aucoin...

  • GIVE ME YOUR GUITAR! I NEED IT MORE THAN YOU!!!!

  • @skatebboard .. .save, and maybe one day, you will need a guitar more than him.

  • What amp is that? It sounds so thick. :)

  • @Hellozan11 "plug a les paul in a Marshall amp.. it's a no brainer" ... lol probly a Marhsall JCM 900 ... possible VM.

  • He's not the most technical player or shred artist in the world, but he is definitely revered as one of the great influential rock guitar legends.

Would love to have one of his signature models. The Epiphones were reasonably priced, but now that they don't make them anymore, prices for them have sky-rocketed.

  • I don't like his vibrato and why does he say you can't bend up with your index finger? That's just as possible as bending down. At least on the b and e string. check out Tom Hess, his vibrato is pretty perfect i'd say.

  • @leckal .. lol it's all style man ... and honestly, Ace, and Page, have the best bends. EVER.

  • @StockOfWood1969 I'm gonna say the same thing as I said to another guy, listen to Marty Friedman of Megadeth. Amazing string bending/releasing and vibrato.

  • @codebabe .... KISS came first, too many years earlier .... Can't compare Ace, to anyone who came out after 1975 ... thats like comparing BB King, to Van HAlen ... lol ..

  • @StockOfWood1969 I wasnt talking music...i was talking specifically vibrato. and you can compare anyone's vibrato from any genre in any time. because good vibrato is good vibrato.

  • @codebabe ... then you still can't compare Ace to anyone, cause his is a GREAT vibrato .... and yes, different genre = different style = maybe some shit doesnt matter, but your "Good" if you can do it fast ... lol .. no m'am .... Ace has one of , if not , the best Vibrato in Music .... just accept it, and dont try to belive a lie :)

  • @codebabe ... watch KISS from 1974-1977 ... live ... Ace .. solo ... #1 for the time he was playing it.

  • Ace rules!

  • Hes right. Vibratos all about feel

  • Ace Frehley is a fucking living Legend

"I just kinda like do it"

  • Ace got real!!!!

  • This was pointless. "You just do it." Thanks Ace.

Honestly though, I can't blame him for it. This is pretty much the dumbest question to ask a guitarist ever. Literally this video only needs 30 seconds to explain how to move a string up and down repeatedly.

  • @atguitar1990 vibrato can be done by moving the finger sideways too. I have seen ace do it

  • gran musico...del cuarteto mas famoso de new york

  • his nails are purple <333

  • Ace is 10 times more of a rocker than Paul or Gene

  • You guys better vibrato?

check out Synyster Gates from Avenged Sevenfold

he has the best vibrato in town

  • @LighterNumber300 nope, he doesnt. angus young does. i saw both a7x and acdc live, i should know.

  • WACK NAILS MAN

  • Awesome Fingernail Color

  • xD ace: I can do it on any speed he really owns

  • "Pretty much I just kinda do it!"

Gee, thanks for the tip, Ace.

  • this is horrible. his vibrato sucks

  • remeber space with ace.

  • Never cared much for ace but I do like his vibrato

  • This guy is GOD!!!!! LOVE KISS!!!!!

  • gott to love that tone

  • here Ace is clearly copying Nigel Tufnel's style... listen to the sustain ! i think his amp is up to 11 !

  • He really should have selected a tone that actually sounds good. This guy is great? He don't sound great any more.

  • "I just kind a like do it"

  • @ThinkReal I love it! it"s a littel trickier.

  • @epiphonelespaul100 either way they both rock lol

  • @ace586 wat u mean lol

  • @ace586 ..why are u bashing angus young?...frehley and angus both built their career on "pentatonic" blues scales..they both are legends in hard rock.

they both have a signature sound.

without Angus there is no AC/DC

without Frehley there is no KISS...thats the bottom line

  • @ace586 choke on a cock you fuzzy fucking faggot.

  • @FreeTalkLive fuck off you fuckin loser!!! i bet you dont even know what vibrato means you stupid bastard!

  • @ace586 I'm sure your poop shoot knows all too well what "vibrato" means.

  • @FreeTalkLive gow the fuck up you dickhead!!

  • @ace586 You clearly show that you dont know anything about music, or guitar playing.

  • @ace586 ill take angus' playing over ace's ANYDAY, his vibrato is far superior and his playing is just more tasteful and awesome

  • @bimwopbarn Angus cant sing for shit. he could never even do a solo album. what a joke!!

  • He has the same fretboard inlays as Angus Young

  • @MBString

Gene Simmons says that it was first Aces idea, but he (Ace)was too lazy to patent it.

  • @Gugemo patent what?

  • i think ace's riffs are second to none - he is the best in my book

  • @BOSTONTEABLIMPIE me too...

  • ace is just badass.

  • I got the idea he is using much more distortion here than at Kiss Concerts! Sounds awsome!

He is and will always be the man, who made me play guitar ! Thanks to you Ace ! Love you for giving me that quality in my life !

  • good thing he has those shades on, it looks really bright in there.

  • Ace may not be the most technically gifted guitarist but his sound is very distinctive. I think he was the sound of KISS. Not many guitarists are instantly recognizable but Ace is. Great player because of that.

  • ace has always been underrated when it comes to knowledge of licks !

  • Ace Frehley rules, Ace still rocks!!!!!!!!!!

  • A lesson from Ace! pretty cool!

  • I'm glad to see that Ace is doing really well these days without having to be with the sell outs anymore (Gene and Paul incase you weren't sure). He and Peter, although they did use substance abuse, they have always insisted on doing rock n roll albums while Gene and Paul sucked money's dick continuously after Destroyer. I would have left KISS too.

  • heres the deal if u love ace thats fine cause i do too but bashing on paul and gene is retarded because if anyone had a brain they would know that without those two there would be no Kiss and then therefore no Ace!!!

  • nice tone

  • I´m gonna kill someone if I don´t get that DVD!!!!!!!

  • Ace MagiCK man.

  • I want that guitar so much.

  • Very cool.

  • i think his vibratio is very good

  • i get your point... but what makes him good is hes style is unique only to kiss i guess this is why he got famous...

  • thats pretty good but BB king still has the best vibrato in the business tho.

  • @csrogers87 i guess lol havent seen his vibrato lol

  • @jimmyfallon211 damn right, BB kings has an awesome vibrato always in the right tempo and wide range. Also MAB uses precice metal vibrato which is very unique. ray vaughn also has best timing in his phrasing for vibrato what makes it sound dramatically cool

  • @csrogers87 yeah I love ace! i was just saying BB makes a vibrato look so effortless and easy the way he does it compared to anyone, including ace. Its kinda like his signature maneuver on the guitar. search for it sometime if you haven't seen it. He uses one finger when he does it and shakes his hand haha.

  • @csrogers87 Yeah, BB King has by far the best vibrato, altough Yngwie Malmsteen has some sick vibrato too.

  • I agree but what makes Ace´s vibrato sooo cooool is when he hits the harmonic!!!!

  • BB has it. Ace does as well. But for my money, nobody ever had the command that Stevie Ray Vaughan did. Especially when he got into that zone and tuned out everything. Man, the guy was something else...

  • @csrogers87

    BB King's a great singer....that's all! I mean c'mon. The man can't play chords.

And he's certainly no Ace Frehley!

  • @csrogers87 wrong, george lynch has best vibrato in the business...he may not be the best song writer, but vibrato, the best...

  • @csrogers87 Marty Friedman has the best I've ever seen. King's is amazing though. Clapton and Gilmour are other great ones.

  • @csrogers87 BB King is a guitar god...and also has about 20 years of guitar playing on Ace.

  • @csrogers87 hell no.... "No oho oh diabetes on meeEEEhehe..."

  • @csrogers87 Its true, even as old as that man is, he is still an angel with a guitar...only man I've ever heard make that mother sing like he was born to it...I saw him in concert and I was bawling by the third song...

  • thanx ace your the man

  • that was so cool i didnt even think to look this up it just popped up when l looked up a different lesson

  • now i know how to do the ace frehley's vibrato style.. thanks ace your the one!

  • @emjoemjo lol nice

  • wat a kick ass les paul custom

  • @61SGman ya its cool

  • Damn!! I need Ace´s DVD!!!

  • me too i need it i wanna see it lol

  • Really, it´s nice too see Ace is back.

  • @vierdiez ya i am kinda young and im glad he came back so i can see what his solo stuff is like. its amazing

  • @jimmyfallon211 Check the video: KISS - Shock Me Houston 1977 9 2. it´s amazing and you´ll see great Ace from the 1970s, here at YouTube!!

  • John 5 can go choke on his own dick

  • i know hes some guy from marlyn manson and rob zombie hes not even really that famous. what type of name is john 5 lol

  • It's a stage-name, like "Ace". He got it when playing with Manson, And the guy has played with k.d. lang, Lita Ford, Rob Halford, David Lee Roth among others. He has also written songs for Garbage, Meat Loaf and Avril Lavigne and he recorded a couple of guitar albums in the early 90's. In other words, he may not be that famous, but he sure knows his craft!

  • Mean tone from those DiMarzio Super Distortions. Got one on my Les Paul. They kick major ass

  • gotta have that guitar!

  • I demand a copie of this DVD! lol, I have been an Ace fan basically since I was 3, I want to see the full thing now lol!

  • I'm A Huge Ace Fan. And KISS Fan
